TFC Water Flasks is a mod in All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0, where it is version 2.0.6. Water Flasks for TerraFirmaCraft! Updated for 1.18.2, this mod is inspired by the original Leather Water Sac mod. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is TFC Water Flasks?

2 parts

TFC Water Flasks gives you better containers for carrying your drinks around with you. If you spend your time exploring, mining or travelling far from a water source, this is the mod that keeps you hydrated on the way. The pack includes version 2.0.6.[1][2]

Two flask tiers

  • The leather flask holds 5 drinks and lasts for 100.[3]
  • The iron flask holds 20 drinks and lasts for 400.[3]

Both flasks can be repaired, and you can even repair one that has completely broken. That makes them worth looking after instead of replacing.[3]

Where the materials come from

The key ingredient is a bladder, taken from certain animals when you butcher them. Sheep, alpaca and goats give one 10% of the time. Equines and bears give one 20% of the time. Bovines are the best source at 50%. A higher damage weapon improves your chances.[4]

Both flask recipes also use flask sides. Leather flask sides are knapped out of leather to protect the bladder from punctures.[4]

Unverified The sources I have don't show where the flasks fit in the pack's progression or on the ATM Star path, and no quests are confirmed to involve this mod.

How do you get started with TFC Water Flasks?

5 parts

This mod gives you two tiers of flask for carrying drinks around: the Leather Flask and the Iron Flask. The leather flask holds 5 drinks and lasts for 100. The iron flask holds 20 drinks and lasts for 400. Here is the order I'd go in.[2][3][5]

First, get a bladder

Everything starts with a Bladder. Only certain animals have bladders that work for this, and you get them by butchering the animal. These are the chances per animal:[4]

  • Sheep, alpaca and goat: 10%[4]
  • Equines and bears: 20%[4]
  • Bovines: 50%[4]
Tip: To improve your chances of getting a bladder, butcher the animal with a higher damage weapon. Bovines are your best bet at 50%.[4]

Next, knap a flask side

Next you need a Leather Flask Side. It is knapped out of leather and protects the bladder from punctures. Both flask recipes use one, so it's worth learning this early.[4][5]

Leather Knapping (tfc)

    Recipe id: waterflasks:leather_knapping/leather_side

    Then craft your leather flask

With a bladder and a flask side, you can make the leather flask. Start here because it is the simpler tier: it needs no anvil work. It's also the one you'll want to have on you while you work toward iron.[3][5]

This is the rotated layout of the leather flask recipe, with the same ingredients.

    Finally, upgrade to iron

The iron flask needs an Unfinished Iron Flask first, which you make at an anvil. Then you combine it in the crafting grid to get the iron flask, which holds 20 drinks.[3][5]

    Repairing your flasks

Both flasks can be repaired, so you don't have to throw one away when it wears out. A completely broken flask can be repaired too. Here are the leather versions:[3][5]

How does TFC Water Flasks work?

    5 parts

Water Flasks gives you better containers for carrying your drinks around with you. The mechanics here are about the flasks themselves: how you get the parts, how much a flask holds, how fast it wears out and how you fix it. Here is how it all works in this pack.[2][3]

    Two tiers of flask

There are two flasks: the Leather Flask and the Iron Flask. The leather flask holds 5 drinks and lasts for 100, while the iron flask holds 20 drinks and lasts for 400.[3][5]

The pack's config backs this up. leatherCapacity is 500, which is half a bucket, 5 drinks or 2 water bars. ironCapacity is 2,000. For comparison, 1,000 is one bucket, which is 10 drinks or 4 water bars.[6]

Durability comes from capacity. A flask's damage capability is its capacity divided by damageFactor, and the pack sets that to 5. That matches the 100 and 400 uses above. A value of 0 would mean the maximum possible number of uses.[3][6]

    Getting the materials

Both flasks need a Bladder. Only certain animals have bladders that work for this, and the chance depends on the species. Using a higher damage weapon to butcher the animal increases your chances.[4][5]

    • Sheep, alpaca and goat: 10%[4]
    • Equines and bears: 20%[4]
    • Bovines: 50%[4]

Both flask recipes also use a Leather Flask Side. It is knapped out of leather to protect the bladder from punctures.[4][5]

    Leather Knapping (tfc)

      Recipe id: waterflasks:leather_knapping/leather_side

      Crafting the flasks

The leather flask is a crafting recipe, and the pack also has a rotated version of the same recipe.[5]

The iron flask takes an extra step. You first make an Unfinished Iron Flask on a TFC anvil, then use it in the crafting recipe.[5]

      Repairing and renewing

Both flasks can be repaired, and a flask that has completely broken can be repaired too. The pack has a repair recipe for each flask and for each broken flask, and these use the mod's own recipe type rather than normal shaped crafting.[3][5]

      Drinking rules

In this pack thirstyDrinking is false. That setting controls whether you can drink when you are not thirsty.[6]

Tip: The config notes that drinking when not thirsty could be useful or wasteful if what is in the flask isn't water. With the pack's setting turned off, drinking when not thirsty is not allowed.[6]

How do you progress through TFC Water Flasks?

      5 parts

There are two tiers of flasks here, and you move through them in order. The Leather Flask holds 5 drinks and lasts for 100. The Iron Flask holds 20 drinks and lasts for 400. Both can be repaired.[3][5]

Unverified Nothing in the sources ties these flasks to a quest, so there is no quest line to follow. The path below follows the in-pack recipes instead.

      First, get a bladder

Both tiers need a Bladder, and you get it by butchering certain animals. Each species has its own chance to drop one, and a higher damage weapon improves that chance.[4]

      • Sheep, alpaca and goat: 10% chance.[4]
      • Equines and bears: 20% chance.[4]
      • Bovines: 50% chance, so they are your best bet.[4]

      Next, knap a flask side

The Leather Flask Side is knapped out of leather, and it protects the bladder from punctures. You need one for both tiers, so it is worth making a few.[4][5]

        Leather Flask: the starter tier

This is your starter flask, holding 5 drinks with a durability of 100. The pack has two crafting recipes for it. The rotated one gives the same result, so you can lay the ingredients out either way.[3][5]

        Same result, rotated layout.

        Iron Flask: the upgrade tier

The iron flask is the upgrade, holding 20 drinks with a durability of 400. First you work an Unfinished Iron Flask on a TFC anvil. Then you combine it with the other parts in the crafting grid.[3][5]

        Anvil (tfc)

        Recipe id: waterflasks:crafting/iron_flask

        Repairing your flasks

Each tier has a repair recipe, so you don't need to craft a new flask when one wears down. Flasks that have broken completely can be repaired too. A broken Broken Leather Flask or Broken Iron Flask turns back into the working flask of the same tier.[3][5]

        Recipe id: waterflasks:crafting/repair_broken_iron

Tip: Repairs use a bladder, so keep a few spare. Bovines have a 50% chance of dropping one.[4][5]

How does TFC Water Flasks work with other mods?

        3 parts

The only cross-mod connection I can confirm for this mod comes from its recipes, and it's all with TFC. Every recipe in the dump that touches both mods is on the iron flask side of things.[5]

Crafting the iron flask with TFC items

The iron flask recipe uses the TFC recipe type for shaped crafting that damages its inputs, so it is a real TFC and Water Flasks mash-up. Burlap Cloth is the TFC item in the mix, while the Bladder and Leather Flask Side are this mod's own parts. The recipe below shows exactly what goes in.[5]

        Iron FlaskMod recipe

        Damage Inputs Shaped Crafting (tfc)

        Recipe id: waterflasks:crafting/iron_flask

        Heating the unfinished flask

There's also a TFC heating recipe, waterflasks:heating/wrought_iron_unfinished_iron_flask, that involves the Unfinished Iron Flask and Cast Iron. The recipe dump doesn't show a result for it, so I can't tell you exactly what it produces.[5]

        Heating (tfc)

        Recipe id: waterflasks:heating/wrought_iron_unfinished_iron_flask

        Repairing flasks with TFC items

Both repair recipes use the mod's own heal-flask recipe type and also take TFC items. One repairs an Iron Flask, the other fixes a Broken Iron Flask. Either way, you get an iron flask back.[5]

Unverified No quests in this pack are confirmed to involve this mod, so there are no quest-based integrations to list. Integrations with mods other than TFC aren't confirmed by the sources either.

Which TFC Water Flasks config options matter?

        3 parts

TFC Water Flasks has only a handful of options, all in one file: config/waterflasks-common.toml. Here is exactly how this pack sets each one.[6]

        Flask capacity

        • leatherCapacity is set to 500. That's half a bucket, which the config describes as 5 drinks or 2 water bars. The value has to be above 100.[6]
        • ironCapacity is set to 2,000. For scale, the config says 1,000 is one bucket, or 10 drinks, or 4 water bars. This value also has to be above 100.[6]

        Flask durability

damageFactor is set to 5. A flask's damage capability is its capacity divided by this value, so a higher number means flasks take less damage before they break. The value must be greater than 0.[6]

        Drinking when you're not thirsty

thirstyDrinking is set to false. You can't drink from a flask when you aren't thirsty. The config notes that turning this on could be useful or wasteful if the flask holds something other than water. It also lists false as the default, so the pack leaves this one unchanged.[6]

Unverified The pack's config file doesn't list the mod's default values for flask capacity or damageFactor, so I can't say whether the pack changed them. Treat the numbers above as this pack's values only.
