What is TFC Astikor Carts?

3 parts

TFC Astikor Carts is a compatibility mod that connects Astikor Carts with TerraFirmaCraft. It works much like the main Astikor Carts mod, but adds a new cart for each wood type present in TerraFirmaCraft. If you're playing the TerraFirmaCraft side of the pack and want to haul things around, this mod is for you.[1]

The pack includes version 1.1.6 of the mod, built for Minecraft 1.18.2.[2]

What it adds

The mod also gives the plow cart new mechanics. You can use it to "mow" large quantities of shrubberies, loose rocks and more. It also lets you till soil blocks into farmland efficiently, even where there are a lot of plants. That makes it very handy when you're clearing and preparing land for farming.[1]

Cart settings worth knowing

The mod's project page describes configurable behavior for animal carts, supply carts and pulling. Animal carts have a maximum animal size and a passenger count, and supply carts have a maximum item size they can store. The values below are the defaults listed on that page. The sources here do not show whether this pack changes any of them.[1]

  • The hand cart inventory defaults to a 2×5 grid, which is 10 slots.[1]
  • The supply cart inventory defaults to a 5×9 grid, which is 45 slots.[1]
  • Pulling speed can depend on your nutrition, thirst and hunger. When that option is on, it scales your speed between 25% and 100%.[1]
  • Cargo weight matters too. By default you become exhausted at 400 kg, overburdened at 1,000 kg and pinned (unable to move) at 2,000 kg.[1]
Tip: Eat and drink before a long haul. With the default settings, a well-fed, hydrated player pulls carts faster than a starving, thirsty one.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified I found no confirmed information on quests or an ATM Star path involving this mod, and no in-jar guidebook, so I can't say where it fits in the pack's progression.

How do you get started with TFC Astikor Carts?

2 parts

TFC Astikor Carts adds a version of the Astikor Carts vehicles for each wood type in TerraFirmaCraft. Pick the wood you have the most of and you can build the matching cart. The order below is my suggestion for getting started.[1]

What to make, in order

  1. Plan around Brass Mechanisms. The plow, animal cart and supply cart recipes all use them, so they are the real gate for this mod. Each recipe also needs a wheel and lumber of the same wood as the cart.[3]
  2. Make the plow first, for example the Acacia Plow. This mod gives the plow cart new abilities: it can "mow" large amounts of shrubbery, loose rocks and more. It can also till soil to farmland efficiently where there are a lot of plants, which helps when you clear land for your first farm.[1][3]
  3. Make the animal cart next, for example the Acacia Animal Cart. It is the cart for carrying animals.[1][3]
  4. Make a supply cart, for example the Acacia Supply Cart, once you need to haul items.[1][3]

Good to know

Each cart is made in a single wood type, so the wheel and lumber you use decide which cart you get. The recipe blocks above show the Acacia versions. The Ash and Aspen supply carts have recipes of the same shape.[3]

How does TFC Astikor Carts work?

4 parts

Astikor Carts has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluids. Everything here is about carts, the animals that pull them and the cargo they carry. TFC Astikor Carts adds a version of each cart for every TerraFirmaCraft wood type, so you get a cart per wood, like the Oak Animal Cart and the Willow Animal Cart.[1][3]

Pulling carts

Each cart type (animal cart, plow and supply cart) has its own pull settings in the pack, and they are all identical. The list of animals that can pull the cart (carts.animal_cart.pull_animals, carts.plow.pull_animals and carts.supply_cart.pull_animals) is empty. An empty list means any animal that can wear a saddle but isn't steered by an item can pull the cart.[4]

The base speed modifier (carts.animal_cart.pull_speed, plus the plow and supply cart versions) is 0, so the pack doesn't slow pulling animals down by default. The slow speed modifier (carts.animal_cart.slow_speed, plus the plow and supply cart versions) is -0.65 and is toggled with the sprint key. The config's own example is that -0.5 means half normal speed, so -0.65 is a hefty slowdown. Both settings accept values from -1.0 to 0.0.[4]

The animal cart

The animal cart can pick up animals and carry them. In the pack, carts.maxAnimalSize is 3, and the config accepts values from 0 to 69. Animals above the limit can't be loaded.[1][4]

These switches control what the cart can pick up, and both are set to true in the pack. carts.canCarryWaterEntities lets it pick up water animals, and carts.canPushIntoPlayers lets it pick up players when you push the cart into them.[4]

Every TFC wood type has its own animal cart recipe in the pack, and this is the Oak one.

The supply cart

The supply cart is the cargo hauler. carts.maxItemSize sets the largest item size it will accept, and the limit is inclusive. The pack has it at VERY_LARGE. The allowed values, from smallest to largest, are TINY, VERY_SMALL, SMALL, NORMAL, LARGE, VERY_LARGE and HUGE. So in this pack, only HUGE items are refused.[1][4]

The plow

The TFC version of the plow cart has extra mechanics. You can use it to "mow" large quantities of shrubberies, loose rocks and more. It also tills soil into farmland efficiently, even where there are a lot of plants. That makes it a good tool for clearing and preparing land.[1]

How do you progress through TFC Astikor Carts?

3 parts

This mod has no tiers in the usual sense. You don't step up through stronger versions. Instead you pick a vehicle: the animal cart, the plow or the supply cart. Each one comes in a version for each wood type, for example Oak Animal Cart, Oak Plow and Oak Supply Cart.[3]

The gate: Brass Mechanisms

The item that holds every cart back is Brass Mechanisms. Every animal cart, plow and supply cart recipe in the pack needs it, along with a wheel of the matching wood and lumber of that same wood. So you can't build any of these vehicles until you can get brass mechanisms, and that is the real progression step for this mod.[3]

Your options

  • Animal cart: the recipe takes any rod from the rods group.[3]
  • Plow: the recipe takes a rod of any type plus a wooden rod.[3]
  • Supply cart: the recipe takes a wooden chest, so any chest from the wooden chest group works.[3]

Recipes

The wood variants share the same recipe shape, and only the wood type changes. Here are the Oak versions as examples. The other woods follow the same pattern with their own lumber and wheel.[3]

Tip: The recipes use lumber of the same wood as the cart, so pick the wood you already have plenty of. Supply carts are listed for woods from Acacia through Spruce. Animal carts and plows also have Sycamore, White Cedar and Willow versions.[3]

Unverified The sources here show no quest that involves this mod, so no quest-guided path for it is documented. Check the pack's quest book yourself if you want to be sure.

How does TFC Astikor Carts work with other mods?

2 parts

This mod is the bridge between Astikor Carts and TerraFirmaCraft. It adds a cart for each wood type present in TerraFirmaCraft, so the carts you build match the trees you find in the world. The in-pack recipes show how deep the link goes: the animal carts, supply carts, plows and wheels all use TerraFirmaCraft items.[1][3]

Crafting with TerraFirmaCraft materials

Each cart and plow recipe uses Brass Mechanisms and the lumber of its own wood, such as Oak Lumber for the Oak versions. The wheels are made from that same wood's lumber. Here are the Oak recipes as examples. The other woods follow the same pattern.[3]

Plows and TerraFirmaCraft terrain

The compatibility mod also changes how the plow cart behaves. It can now "mow" large quantities of shrubberies, loose rocks and more. It also lets you till soil blocks into farmland efficiently, even where there are a lot of plants.[1]

Tip: If you are clearing a patch of land for farming, the plow cart is worth building, because it can handle the shrubberies and loose rocks for you.[1]

Which TFC Astikor Carts config options matter?

3 parts

All the cart options in this pack live in config/astikorcarts-common.toml. The options you're most likely to care about are simple, and where the mod documents a default, the pack uses that same value.[1][4]

What can go in a cart

  • carts.maxAnimalSize is set to 3 in this pack (allowed range 0 to 69). It is the biggest animal the animal cart can carry. The mod's documented default is also 3.0, so the pack hasn't changed it.[1][4]
  • carts.maxItemSize is set to "VERY_LARGE". It is the largest item size, inclusive, that a supply cart accepts. The allowed values run TINY, VERY_SMALL, SMALL, NORMAL, LARGE, VERY_LARGE, HUGE, so only HUGE items are turned away. This matches the mod default.[1][4]
  • carts.canPushIntoPlayers is true, so the animal cart can pick up players when it is pushed into them. This is the mod default.[1][4]
  • carts.canCarryWaterEntities is true, so the animal cart can pick up water animals. This is also the mod default.[1][4]

Pulling speed

The animal cart, the supply cart and the plow each have their own pull speed, slow speed and pull animals options, and the pack sets all of these carts identically. The base speed modifier (carts.animal_cart.pull_speed, carts.supply_cart.pull_speed and carts.plow.pull_speed) is 0, so pulling doesn't slow your animal down at all. The valid range is -1.0 to 0.0, where -0.5 would mean half normal speed.[4]

The slow speed modifier (carts.animal_cart.slow_speed, carts.supply_cart.slow_speed and carts.plow.slow_speed) is -0.65 on every cart. This is the modifier you toggle with the sprint key, so it's your slow down gear for careful driving.[4]

Which animals can pull

carts.animal_cart.pull_animals, carts.supply_cart.pull_animals and carts.plow.pull_animals are all left as an empty list. According to the config comments, an empty list means any animal that can wear a saddle but isn't steered by an item can pull the cart. If you want to restrict it, you'd list animals such as "minecraft:horse".[4]
