What is MEGA Cells?
2 parts
MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds higher tiers of storage. Capacities run from 1M up to 256M, in the spirit of older add-ons like Extra Cells 2. If your AE2 network has outgrown regular cells, this is the mod you reach for.[1]
It isn't just bigger numbers. MEGA has its own progression line and its own components, which are meant to extend and challenge existing AE2 setups. It also has a distinct jet-black visual style.[1]
What it adds
- Item and fluid cells from 1M to 256M, in standard and portable versions.[1]
- MEGA Crafting CPUs with all-black crafting units, 1M to 256M of storage, a 4-threaded co-processing unit and a matching monitor.[1]
- The MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell, designed for infinite storage of a single item type. Bulk Compression converts automatically between ingots, nuggets and blocks, and the Decompression Module gives full auto-crafting support.[1]
- The MEGA Pattern Provider, which has double the capacity for processing patterns.[1]
- The Superdense Energy Cell and Greater Energy Card, which give more energy storage for AE networks and portable devices.[1]
- Integration with other AE2 add-ons, including 1-256M chemical cells with Applied Mekanistics and 1-256M mana cells with Applied Botanics.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships MEGA Cells version 1.4.2 for Minecraft 1.18.2.[2]
Unverified The feature list above comes from the mod's public project page and may describe a newer release than the one in the pack, so check in game that each item exists. I couldn't confirm the pack's recipes, config values, or where MEGA Cells fits in the pack's progression. It isn't on the ATM Star path, and no quests involve it.
How do you get started with MEGA Cells?
6 parts
MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds higher storage tiers, from 1M up to 256M, for both items and fluids. It has its own progression line and components, so you build up through the tiers one step at a time.[1]
Step 1: Make the 1M component
Everything starts with the 1M MEGA Storage Component. Each later component in the chain is crafted from the one before it. Here is the in-pack recipe:[3]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: megacells:cell_component_1m
Step 2: Pick your housing
Cells come in an item version and a fluid version, and each has its own housing. Make the MEGA Item Cell Housing if you want to store items. Make the MEGA Fluid Cell Housing for fluids.[3]

Step 3: Craft your first cell
There are two recipes for turning a component into a finished cell. A shapeless one combines the component with its matching housing, and a shaped one crafts the cell directly. Both give the same result, here the 1M MEGA Item Storage Cell.[3]

Step 4: Climb the tiers
After the 1M component come the 4M MEGA Storage Component, 16M MEGA Storage Component, 64M MEGA Storage Component and 256M MEGA Storage Component. Each one is crafted from the previous tier's component, so you can't skip ahead. Start with the 4M step:[3]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: megacells:cell_component_4m
Every tier has matching item and fluid cells, and they follow the same recipe pattern as the 1M ones above.[3]
Portable cells
If you want storage you can carry, each tier also has portable versions, such as the 1M Portable Item Cell. Here is the in-pack recipe for the 1M item version:[3]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: megacells:cells/portable/portable_item_cell_1m
The Bulk Item Storage Cell
The MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell is designed for infinite storage of a single item type. This pack changes its recipe from the mod's version, so follow the recipe below rather than any other guide you find.[1][3]

How does MEGA Cells work?
5 parts
MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds higher storage tiers, from 1M up to 256M. It has its own progression line and components. Below is how its systems fit together, as far as the pack's sources explain them.[1]
Storage cells and components
The mod adds item and fluid cells, each in a standard and a portable version. The storage component tiers in this pack are 1M, 4M, 16M, 64M and 256M.[1][3]
The component chain is linear. 1M MEGA Storage Component is the entry point, and each later tier is crafted from the component one step below it. Here are the 1M and 4M steps as examples.[3]

Recipe id: megacells:cell_component_4m
The 16M, 64M and 256M components follow the same pattern, each built from the previous tier.
Item cells and fluid cells use different housings, MEGA Item Cell Housing and MEGA Fluid Cell Housing. Pick the one that matches the kind of cell you want.[3]

Portable cells
Portable cells come in item and fluid versions at every tier, for example 1M Portable Item Cell and 256M Portable Fluid Cell. They are shapeless crafts that use a component of the tier you want and the matching housing. Here is the 1M portable item cell as an example.[3]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: megacells:cells/portable/portable_item_cell_1m
Bulk storage and compression
The MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell is designed for infinite storage of a single item type. It supports bulk compression, which automatically converts between ingots, nuggets and blocks. Auto-crafting is fully supported through the Decompression Module.[1]
The pack changes the bulk cell's crafting recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default. The recipe below is the one that applies here, and it uses the MEGA Bulk Storage Component.[3]
Crafting Shaped

Crafting CPUs, patterns and energy
The mod's feature list also includes MEGA Crafting CPUs, built from all-black crafting units. They offer 1M to 256M of storage, a 4-threaded co-processing unit and a matching monitor.[1]
For automation, the MEGA Pattern Provider has double the capacity for processing patterns. For power, the Superdense Energy Cell and the Greater Energy Card give AE networks and portable devices more energy storage.[1]
Chemical cells
The mod integrates with Applied Mekanistics for 1M to 256M chemical cells. The pack's language file lists the matching items: MEGA Chemical Storage Cells from 1M to 256M, Portable Chemical Cells at the same tiers, a MEGA Chemical Cell Housing and a MEGA Radioactive Chemical Storage Cell.[1][4]
How do you progress through MEGA Cells?
5 parts
Unverified No quests in this pack involve MEGA Cells, and the mod is not on the ATM Star quest path, so the sources here show no quest-based progression. This section follows the crafting chain instead.
MEGA Cells is an Applied Energistics 2 add-on, and its progression is a ladder of storage components. The tiers are 1M, 4M, 16M, 64M and 256M. Cells, portable cells and crafting storage are all made from the component of the tier you want.[3]
Step 1: the storage component ladder
The entry point is the 1M MEGA Storage Component, which builds on the AE2 256k ME Storage Component. Every higher tier takes the previous MEGA component as an input, so you climb one rung at a time: 4M MEGA Storage Component, 16M MEGA Storage Component, 64M MEGA Storage Component and finally 256M MEGA Storage Component.[3]

Step 2: housings and storage cells
To turn a component into a usable cell you can use a housing. There is one for items and one for fluids.[3]

How does MEGA Cells work with other mods?
4 parts
MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, and in this pack its recipes plug straight into AE2 parts. Every connection below comes from an in-pack recipe, and they all lead back to AE2 or to plain metal ingots.[1][3]
Storage components build on AE2's
The MEGA storage line starts from AE2's own storage. The entry-level 1M MEGA Storage Component is crafted from the 256k ME Storage Component, so your AE2 storage progress carries straight into MEGA. Each later tier (4M, 16M, 64M and 256M) then upgrades the one before it.[3]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: megacells:cell_component_1m
This is the bridge from AE2 storage to MEGA storage.
Along the way, the recipes ask for AE2 materials. The 4M and 16M components use Ender Dust, while the 64M and 256M components use a Matter Ball.[3]
Cells, housings and portables
The item and fluid cell housings are made from AE2 glass and dust, plus a plain ingot. The item housing takes an iron ingot and the fluid housing takes a copper ingot. The standard MEGA cells follow the same pattern: a MEGA component, AE2 materials and the matching ingot.[3]

Bulk storage and the pack's change
The MEGA Bulk Storage Component is made in AE2's Inscriber, not at a crafting table. It builds on the 1M MEGA component, and the recipe below shows the exact inputs.[3]
Inscriber (ae2)
