What is Macaw's Stairs?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Macaw's Stairs is a building mod that upgrades stairs. It adds vanilla-styled stair railings (handrails) and balcony railings, and it also adds 5 new stair designs. If you like making your bases look good, this one is for you.[1]

What you can do with it

  • Put stair railings on vanilla stairs or on stairs from other mods.[1]
  • Right-click a stair railing or balcony railing with shears to toggle it and change its style.[1]
  • Place balconies up to 4 times in the same block.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Macaw's Stairs 1.0.2, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the build options you get.[2]

Unverified The sources don't show where the mod fits in the pack's progression, and they give no recipes, config options or quests for it. Check in-game (for example with a recipe viewer) before relying on any of those. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Macaw's Stairs?

4 parts

Macaw's Stairs adds new vanilla-styled stairs, railings you can attach to stairs, and balconies. Everything is made at the crafting table, and every wood type has its own set of recipes. This pack lists them as standard mod recipes. I'm using oak below, but the same item types exist for the other wood types in the sources, from acacia through to warped.[1][3]

First: a new stair style

Start with the stairs themselves. The mod adds 5 new stair designs: bulk, compact, loft, skyline and terrace. Oak examples are Oak Bulk Stairs, Oak Compact Stairs, Oak Loft Stairs, Oak Skyline Stairs and Oak Terrace Stairs. Pick whichever shape fits your build. Here is the compact one.[1][3]

Next: a railing

Next, make a railing. It goes on the side of stairs, and it works on vanilla and modded stairs, so you can dress up stairs you already have. Right-click it with shears to change its style. The oak one is called Oak Stair Railing in game.[1][3][4]

Crafting Shaped

6 × Oak Balcony

Recipe id: mcwstairs:oak_railing

Then: a platform for corners

The Oak Platform is handy for making corners with the new stairs, and you can place a balcony on top of it. It makes sense to craft it before the balcony, so you have something to attach the balcony to.[3][4]

Last: a balcony

Last, add the Oak Balcony. You can place it up to 4 times on the same block, and shears change its style, just like the railing.[1][3][4]

Tip: Keep a pair of shears in your hotbar while you build. Both railings and balconies switch style when you right-click them with shears, so you can try a look without crafting anything new.[1][4]

Unverified This order is just a sensible build flow. The sources don't set a required order. They also don't show any pack-specific changes to these recipes or any quests for the mod.

How does Macaw's Stairs work?

4 parts

Macaw's Stairs is a building mod, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to learn here. The mod adds new vanilla-styled stairs, railings for stairs, and balconies. All the mechanics come down to how you place these blocks and how you change their style.[1]

The stair designs

The mod adds 5 new stair designs. In this pack you will see them as bulk, compact, loft, skyline and terrace stairs, for example Acacia Bulk Stairs, Acacia Compact Stairs, Acacia Loft Stairs, Acacia Skyline Stairs and Acacia Terrace Stairs. Each one comes in wood variants such as acacia, birch, cherry, crimson and dark oak.[1][3]

Railings

A railing such as Acacia Railing goes on the side of stairs. The mod says railings work on both vanilla and modded stairs, so you aren't limited to the stairs this mod adds.[1][3][4]

To change a railing's style, right-click it with shears. Each click toggles the style.[1][4]

Crafting Shaped

6 × Acacia Balcony

Balconies and platforms

A balcony such as Acacia Balcony can be placed up to 4 times in the same block. Shears change its style, just like on railings.[1][3][4]

A platform such as Acacia Platform is useful for making corners with the new stairs. You can also place a balcony on top of it.[3][4]

Tip: Keep a pair of shears in your hotbar while you build. They are the only tool the sources mention for restyling railings and balconies.[1][4]

Crafting and configuration

Unverified The pack has no config files for this mod, so the sources here show no tunable options for it.

How do you progress through Macaw's Stairs?

2 parts

Macaw's Stairs doesn't have a tech ladder like the big machine mods. In this pack the only real progression is which material you build with, because that decides how each piece is crafted. The recipe data shows crafting table recipes for the wood and fungus sets and stonecutter recipes for the stone sets.[3]

Wood and fungus sets: crafting table

The wood-type sets are made in the crafting table with shaped recipes: acacia, birch, cherry, crimson, dark oak, jungle, mangrove, oak, pale oak, spruce and warped. Each set has the same pieces: balcony, bulk stairs, compact stairs, loft stairs, platform, railing, skyline stairs and terrace stairs. The oak railing shows up in-game as Oak Stair Railing, the Oak Stair Railing.[3]

Stone sets: stonecutter

The stone-type sets visible in the recipe data are andesite, blackstone and brick, and their recipes are stonecutter recipes rather than crafting table ones. The andesite and blackstone sets list the full run of pieces, for example Andesite Skyline Stairs and Blackstone Terrace Stairs. The brick pieces shown in the data are the balcony, bulk, compact and loft stairs, such as Brick Loft Stairs.[3]

Tip: All of these recipes are listed as the mod's own recipes in the recipe data.[3]

Unverified The sources here show no quests involving this mod, so there is no quest chapter that sets a progression order for it. Check the pack's quest book in game if you want to confirm.
