Macaw's Stairs in All the Mods 10

Macaw's Stairs is a building mod that upgrades stairs. It adds vanilla-styled stair railings (handrails) and balcony railings, and it also adds 5 new stair designs. If you like making your bases look good, this one is for you.^[1]

What you can do with it

• Put stair railings on vanilla stairs or on stairs from other mods.^[1]
• Right-click a stair railing or balcony railing with shears to toggle it and change its style.^[1]
• Place balconies up to 4 times in the same block.^[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Macaw's Stairs 1.0.2, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the build options you get.^[2]

Unverified The sources don't show where the mod fits in the pack's progression, and they give no recipes, config options or quests for it. Check in-game (for example with a recipe viewer) before relying on any of those. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Macaw's Stairs adds new vanilla-styled stairs, railings for stairs and balconies. Everything is crafted in a normal crafting grid, and the recipes below are the exact ones in this pack. I'm using oak as the example, but the other wood types in the recipe dump follow the same pattern.^[1][3]

First, make a stair design

The mod has 5 new stair designs: bulk, compact, loft, skyline and terrace. Start with Oak Compact Stairs. Its recipe uses only one type of ingredient, so it's a simple way to see what the new shapes look like. The loft stairs are the same if you want a second style.^[1][3]

The bulk, skyline and terrace stairs, like Oak Terrace Stairs, each need two ingredients. Make them once you have more wood to spare.^[1][3]

Next, make a platform

Next, craft an Oak Platform. It's useful for making corners with the new stairs, and you can place a balcony on top of it.^[3][4]

Then balconies and railings

Make the Oak Balcony before the railing. The balcony can be placed up to 4 times on the same block, which is handy for fencing off an edge.^[1][3][4]

The Oak Stair Railing recipe starts from the balcony, which is why it comes second. You place a railing on the side of stairs. This works on vanilla stairs and on modded stairs too.^[1][3][4]

Railings

A railing such as Acacia Railing goes on the side of a stair. It works on both vanilla and modded stairs, so you can dress up stairs from other mods too. Right-click it with shears to change its style.^[1][3][4]

Balconies

A balcony like Acacia Balcony can be placed up to 4 times on the same block, so you can build up different layouts within a single space. Shears change its style, just like with railings.^[1][3][4]

Platforms and corners

A platform such as Acacia Platform is useful for making corners with the mod's new stairs. You can also place a balcony on it.^[3][4]

The stair designs

The mod adds 5 new stair designs. In this pack they show up per wood type as Bulk, Compact, Loft, Skyline and Terrace stairs, for example Acacia Bulk Stairs and Acacia Compact Stairs.^[1][3]

Unverified The pack has no config files for this mod and no in-jar guidebook was found, so the sources here do not show any adjustable options beyond the placement and styling behavior described above.

Macaw's Stairs has no tier ladder in this pack. Every recipe I can see uses plain vanilla materials: logs, stems, slabs, fences and sticks for the wood sets, and andesite or blackstone for the stone sets. So you can start building as soon as you have wood or stone.^[3]

Wood variants: crafting table

The wood sets (oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, cherry, crimson and warped) are all shaped crafting recipes. Each set covers balcony, railing, platform, plus compact, loft, bulk, skyline and terrace stairs.^[3]

The easiest shapes to get first are the compact and loft stairs, because each is made from a single kind of stripped log or stem. Here is Oak Compact Stairs:^[3]

The bulk, skyline and terrace stairs, like Oak Bulk Stairs, need a regular log or stem plus a stripped one. Oak Platform uses a log and a slab instead.^[3]

Balcony to railing

In the wood sets, railings are a balcony-first chain. You craft the balcony from a fence and a stick, then use that balcony to make the railing. The oak railing shows up in game as Oak Stair Railing, named Oak Stair Railing.^[3]

The railing is crafted from the matching balcony.

Stone variants: stonecutter

The stone sets work differently. The andesite and blackstone variants are made at a stonecutter straight from the matching block. Balcony and railing are included, so there is no balcony-first step. Here is Andesite Platform:^[3]

The andesite set has balcony, railing, platform and the compact, loft, bulk, skyline and terrace stairs. The blackstone set has balcony, railing, platform and the compact, loft and bulk stairs.^[3]

Macaw's Stairs has been in All the Mods 10 for a long time. It was already in the pack by version 2.25 or earlier, and All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 1.0.2 of the mod.^[2]

Pack release changes

• All the Mods 10 2.33: the pack updated Macaw's Stairs and Balconies from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1.^[5]
• All the Mods 10 5.5: the pack updated Macaw's Stairs and Balconies from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2. This is the version you still get in 8.1.^[2][6]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record the version bumps, and there are no stored changelogs for the shipped jars. What actually changed inside the mod between 1.0.0, 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 (new blocks, fixes, recipe changes) is unverified.
