What is In World Recipes?
2 parts
In World Recipes is a small library-style mod that lets recipes happen out in the world instead of in a crafting grid. The pack includes version 2.5.1 of it.[1][2]
It adds new recipe types that pack makers and datapack authors can use. They cover three situations: items that transform when thrown into a fluid, blocks that turn into other blocks when you use an item on them, and items that turn into different items when used on a block.[1]
The three recipe types
- Right click on block, item result (inworldrecipes:right_click_on_block_transforms_item): you use a held item on a target block and get an item back. The recipe can set whether the held item is damaged or consumed, and whether the target block is destroyed and pops the result out.[1]
- Right click on block, block result (inworldrecipes:right_click_on_block_transforms_block): you use a held item on a target block and the block becomes a new block. The recipe can set whether the held item is damaged or consumed.[1]
- Drop item in fluid (inworldrecipes:drop_item_in_fluid): you throw an item into a fluid and it turns into a result item. The recipe can set whether the fluid is consumed.[1]
Who it is for
The mod page describes it as a way to add in-world recipes. That makes it mostly a tool for people writing recipes, such as pack makers and datapack authors. As a player, you will only notice it through whatever recipes other content builds on it.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't show which in-world recipes this pack actually uses, or where the mod fits in the pack's progression. I also couldn't confirm any quests or ATM Star path involvement for it.
How do you get started with In World Recipes?
1 part
Good news and a heads-up: In World Recipes isn't a mod where you craft a starter item and work up a tech tree. It's a recipe-type mod that lets recipes happen out in the world instead of in a crafting grid. So there's no first-item order to follow here, and what you need to learn is how to read these recipes.[1]
The mod adds three kinds of in-world recipe. Items can transform when you throw them into a fluid. A block can turn into another block when you use an item on it. And an item can turn into a different item when you use it on a block.[1]
Unverified I couldn't confirm any quests or crafting recipes in this pack that involve this mod, so there are no recipe blocks or quest links to point you to. The example recipes on the mod's project page are samples of the format, and I can't confirm they exist in this pack.
How to read an in-world recipe
When you find one of these recipes in JEI, the mod's tooltips tell you what the recipe needs. Here's what each one means for you.[3]
- Required in world as a dropped item: the item has to be thrown on the ground, not just sitting in your inventory.[3]
- Required in Inventory: you need to be carrying the item when you do the recipe.[3]
- Consumes required dropped items or Consumes required items from inventory: the ingredients get used up, so don't try it with your only copy of something precious.[3]
- This block must be targeted: you have to aim at the right block when you use the item.[3]
- Must stand on this block: some recipes also care about what's under your feet.[3]
- Requires lightning to strike or Requires a certain weather: you may have to wait for the right conditions.[3]
- Replaces block with this block: the targeted block is swapped for a new one.[3]
- Any resulting items are placed in world: the results drop into the world instead of going straight to your inventory.[3]
- Ignores block states: the recipe doesn't care about the target block's state, only which block it is.[3]
How does In World Recipes work?
4 parts
This mod is a recipe-type mod, not a machine mod. It adds ways to make things happen out in the world, with no GUI involved. Its project page says it currently adds three recipe types: right-clicking a block with an item to get an item, right-clicking a block with an item to change it into another block, and dropping items into a fluid to transform them.[1]
Right click on block: block to item
The recipe type is inworldrecipes:right_click_on_block_transforms_item. You hold one item and right-click a target block. The recipe has switches for whether the held item takes damage, whether it is consumed, whether the target block is destroyed, and whether the result pops out into the world. The result is an item with a count.[1]
The project page's format example for this type fills in the fields like this: Diamond Pickaxe as the held item, Stone as the target block, and Cobblestone as the result with a count of 64. The damage switch is off, while the consume, destroy and pop switches are on. This only illustrates the format from the project page and is not a recipe confirmed for this pack.[1]
Right click on block: block to block
The recipe type is inworldrecipes:right_click_on_block_transforms_block. It works like the one above, but the target block is replaced by a new block instead of producing an item. It has the same damage and consume switches for the held item.[1]
The project page's format example for this type fills in the fields like this: Stone Sword as the held item, Stone as the target block, and Gravel as the new block. The damage switch is on and the consume switch is off. Again, this only illustrates the format and is not confirmed as an in-pack recipe.[1]
Dropping items in a fluid
The recipe type is inworldrecipes:drop_item_in_fluid. You throw items into a fluid, and they transform into a result. The recipe sets the required dropped item and its count, the fluid, and a consume_fluid switch that decides whether the fluid is used up.[1]
The project page's example has 10 Iron Ingot dropped into water giving 3 Gold Ingot, with the water not consumed. Treat that as a format example, not as a recipe you can rely on in this pack.[1]
What JEI shows you
The mod's JEI display has text lines that explain each recipe's requirements. Dropped-item recipes say the item is required in world as a dropped item, and there is a line for whether dropped items are consumed. Block recipes say which block must be targeted, or which block tag must be targeted, and a line says when block states are ignored. Some recipes replace the block with an output block, and some place any resulting items in the world.[3]
The same lang file has lines for other conditions: items required in your inventory (with a separate line for whether they are consumed), a block you must stand on, lightning that must strike, and a required weather condition. If a recipe in JEI shows one of these lines, that line is its requirement.[3]
Unverified The sources don't describe machines, multiblocks, power, or automation for this mod. They also don't show the JSON fields behind the lightning, weather, standing-on or inventory-item conditions, or which recipes this pack actually uses. Check JEI in-game for the real recipes. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
What changed in In World Recipes between versions?
3 parts
All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships In World Recipes 2.5.1. The mod was first included in the pack in 0.3.0-beta or earlier. Here are the notes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]
2.5.1 (the version in this pack)
- Fixed a bug where recipe matching would work if only one condition was met.[4]
2.5.0
- JEI display reworked to be clearer. All triggers, conditions and results are now added under a single item instead of being spread out.[5]
- Visual only recipes are now truly visual only. They never trigger any logic when you interact with them.[5]
- Held item tags now show that a tag is required, instead of showing a random item from the tag.[5]
- Stripped log recipes now show as visual only in world recipes.[5]
2.4.4
- Fixed recipe matching with only one condition.[6]
- Fixed the BlockTarget StreamCodec not having property values.[6]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for this mod are available in the sources here, so which pack release moved to which In World Recipes version, and whether the pack changed any of its recipes, is unverified.
