What is FTB Essentials?

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.6 guide

This pack includes FTB Essentials at version 2101.1.10, shipped as the NeoForge jar ftb-essentials-neoforge-2101.1.10.jar.[1]

It is not a recent addition: the mod was first included in version 1.0 of the pack or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for a long time.[1]

Unverified The sources available here do not describe what FTB Essentials does. No platform page or in-jar guidebook was found for it, so this guide does not list its features, commands or config options.

How do you get started with FTB Essentials?

2 parts

FTB Essentials works differently from most mods you'll meet in this pack. The sources I have show no items or crafting recipes for it, so there is nothing to craft first. What the config shows is a set of commands, such as /home, /back, /spawn and /rtp, and the pack sets its own limits on them. Here is the order I'd learn them in.[2]

Your first commands, in order

  1. Set a home with /sethome. The pack's teleportation.home.max is 1, so each player gets one home and you should pick your spot carefully. Use /home to return: teleportation.home.cooldown is 60 seconds in the pack (the mod default is 10).[2]
  2. Learn /back. teleportation.back.max is 10, the size of your teleport history. The pack sets teleportation.back.cooldown to 60 seconds (the mod default is 30). teleportation.back.only_on_death is false, so /back isn't limited to your last death point.[2]
  3. Use /spawn to get back to the world spawn. The pack sets teleportation.spawn.cooldown to 60 seconds (the mod default is 10).[2]
  4. Try /rtp when you want to explore. teleportation.rtp.min_distance is 500 and teleportation.rtp.max_distance is 20,000 in the pack (the mod default maximum is 25,000). teleportation.rtp.cooldown is 1,800 seconds (the mod default is 600). teleportation.rtp.dimension_blacklist contains minecraft:the_end, so /rtp won't work there.[2]
  5. Use /tpa to teleport to another player when you play with friends. The pack sets teleportation.tpa.cooldown to 120 seconds (the mod default is 10).[2]
Tip: The pack's /rtp, /home and /tpa cooldowns are longer than the mod defaults, so use /rtp sparingly and set your home somewhere useful.[2]

Other things to know

The teleport commands run straight away: the warm-up is 0 seconds for teleportation.home.warmup, teleportation.back.warmup, teleportation.spawn.warmup, teleportation.rtp.warmup, teleportation.tpa.warmup and teleportation.warp.warmup. The /warp cooldown (teleportation.warp.cooldown) is 10 seconds, the same as the mod default.[2]

The mod also has utility commands, all enabled in the pack, for example misc.enderchest.enabled, misc.crafting.enabled, misc.trashcan.enabled and misc.hat.enabled. Admin commands such as admin.fly.enabled, admin.god.enabled, admin.heal.enabled and admin.kit.enabled are enabled too.[2]

The config comments say that several of these limits, such as ftbessentials.home.max, can be overridden with FTB Ranks.[2]

How does FTB Essentials work?

6 parts

FTB Essentials doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling. In this pack it works as a set of utility commands, mostly teleportation, and the pack's config file controls how they behave. This section covers what that config tells us.[2]

How teleport commands are timed

Each teleport command has a warmup (the wait before it runs) and a cooldown (the wait before you can use it again), both in seconds. In this pack every warmup is 0, so teleports run immediately. The cooldowns are where the pack differs from the mod's defaults. The config notes say FTB Ranks can override the warmup and cooldown values per player or rank, which is handy if you run a server.[2]

/back and /home

/back keeps a teleport history. teleportation.back.max caps its size and so limits how many times you can use /back. The pack sets it to 10, the same as the default. teleportation.back.only_on_death is false, so /back isn't restricted to your last death point.[2]

Homes are limited by teleportation.home.max, which is 1 in the pack. By default you get a single home. The setting can be overridden with FTB Ranks. teleportation.home.home_min_y sets the lowest Y level where /sethome works. It is -2,147,483,648, the mod default, so the pack adds no practical depth restriction.[2]

Random teleport (/rtp)

/rtp sends you to a random spot measured from the spawn point. The pack uses a minimum distance of 500 (teleportation.rtp.min_distance) and a maximum of 20,000 (teleportation.rtp.max_distance). The max is lower than the mod default of 25,000. If no valid spot turns up, the command gives up after the number of tries in teleportation.rtp.max_tries, which is 100.[2]

Players can't choose their own distances by default. teleportation.rtp.allow_custom_max_distance and teleportation.rtp.allow_custom_min_max_distance are both false. FTB Ranks can override them.[2]

The pack blocks /rtp in the End through teleportation.rtp.dimension_blacklist, which contains minecraft:the_end. The whitelist in teleportation.rtp.dimension_whitelist is empty. If you fill it, you must be standing in one of its dimensions to use /rtp. Both lists accept wildcards such as somemod:*.[2]

Dimension restrictions

teleportation.blacklists.from lists dimensions where players can't run teleport commands. teleportation.blacklists.to lists dimensions players can't teleport into. Both are empty in the pack. teleportation.admins_exempt_dimension_blacklists is true, so players with permission level 2 or higher ignore these lists and the /rtp dimension lists.[2]

Toggling commands on and off

Most commands have an enabled switch, and the pack leaves all the ones shown here on. For teleportation these include teleportation.back.enabled, teleportation.home.enabled, teleportation.spawn.enabled, teleportation.playerspawn.enabled, teleportation.jump.enabled and teleportation.rtp.enabled.[2]

Command namespacing

By default the commands register at the root, so you type them plainly. register_to_namespace is false in the pack. Turning it on also registers them under the ftbessentials namespace. register_alias_as_well_as_namespace is also false, and it does nothing unless the namespace option is true. Its job is to keep the root commands as well as the namespaced ones.[2]

Unverified The sources don't describe what the admin and misc commands do in detail (for example how kits are defined), and 9 config options in the file weren't visible. Check in-game with the command help before relying on those details.

Which FTB Essentials config options matter?

4 parts

Most of the options you'll care about in FTB Essentials are the teleport commands. Everything lives in one file, and the pack changes a handful of cooldowns and one RTP distance from the mod defaults. Here's what's different, and what's left alone.[2]

What the pack changed

So in this pack you can't spam teleports. Plan your trips, especially with random teleport, which has the longest cooldown of the lot.[2]

Random teleport settings that stay at the default

Homes, back and warmups

teleportation.home.max is 1, so you get a single home unless a server grants more. teleportation.back.max is 10 (the default), which is the size of your /back history. teleportation.back.only_on_death is false, so /back isn't limited to your last death point.[2]

Every warmup (back, home, spawn, tpa, warp, rtp and playerspawn) is 0 seconds, so teleports happen right away once the cooldown allows. The warp and playerspawn cooldowns are both 10 seconds, the same as the mod default.[2]

Tip: The cooldown, warmup and max options for back, home, spawn, tpa, warp and rtp can be overridden per rank with FTB Ranks, so a server may give different values than the file shows.[2]
