What is Epitaphs?
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
Epitaphs is included in this pack at version 2.2.0. The pack ships it as a NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1]
The pack's mod list shows it was already present in this pack version or an earlier one. Beyond that, the sources I have don't say anything about its features or how you'd use it.[1]
Unverified What Epitaphs does in gameplay, who it is meant for, and where it fits in the pack's progression (including any ATM Star path) could not be confirmed from the available sources. This page lists no recipes, config options or quests for the mod, because none were provided.
How do you get started with Epitaphs?
2 parts
Epitaphs is all about what happens when you die, so the first steps here are about protecting your stuff before something goes wrong. This pack's sources only cover the mod's tooltips and config descriptions, so this section stays short and sticks to what those confirm.[2]
Your first steps, in order
- Learn what a grave is. Epitaphs uses graves, and a grave can be claimed. If you hover over a grave and see a message about a trapped soul, the mod hints that a bottle could free it.[2]
- Get a way back to your grave. The mod has a highlight feature, and its message tells you to use a particular item to find your way back. The sources don't say which item that is, so check the in-game tooltip.[2]
- Put the soulbound enchantment on your key gear. Soulbound keeps the item on you after death, and the mod's hint says you apply it by combining in an anvil.[2]
- Upgrade armor to experience soulbound if you want to keep XP too. It keeps the item and also 1/4th of your XP. The hint says to combine soulbound armor with an experience bottle.[2]
Backups
Epitaphs also takes automatic backups of all players. By default, a backup happens every 10 minutes, and the mod keeps up to 10 backups. Setting the interval to 0 disables them. It also keeps up to 5 old deaths by default, which are deaths from graves that were already claimed. These are the mod's defaults, and the sources don't show whether this pack changed them.[2]
Unverified No in-pack recipes or quests for Epitaphs could be confirmed, so there are no recipe blocks here. How to obtain the item that highlights your grave, and which items are needed for the soulbound anvil step, is unverified.
How does Epitaphs work?
4 parts
Epitaphs is all about what happens when you die. The only thing I can confirm about how it works is the text in the mod's language file, so this section is short. It covers the grave and backup settings and the soulbound enchantments. Exact grave behavior beyond that is left out.[2]
Graves and old deaths
Graves that you have already claimed count as old deaths, and the mod keeps a limited number of them. The mod's default is 5.[2]
A grave can still have a soul trapped inside it. The in-game hint says maybe a bottle could work. The language file doesn't say more than that.[2]
Automatic backups
Epitaphs automatically backs up all players at a set interval in minutes. The mod's default is every 10 minutes, and setting the interval to 0 turns backups off. A separate option caps how many backups are kept, and the mod's default for that is 10.[2]
Unverified The values above are the mod's own defaults, taken from its option tooltips. The sources here do not show whether the pack changes any of them in its mod configuration.
Grave tooltip time format
Grave tooltips show a time and date, and a formatter option controls how they look. ISO8601 shows them in the ISO8601 format, while SYSTEM adjusts them to your system settings. The mod's default is SYSTEM.[2]
Soulbound enchantments
- Soulbound keeps the enchanted item on you after you die. You apply it by combining in an anvil.[2]
- Experience soulbound does the same and also keeps 1/4th of your xp. To apply it, combine soulbound armor with an experience bottle.[2]
