What is Epitaphs?
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
Epitaphs is included in this pack at version 2.2.0. The pack ships it as a NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1]
The pack's mod list shows it was already present in this pack version or an earlier one. Beyond that, the sources I have don't say anything about its features or how you'd use it.[1]
Unverified What Epitaphs does in gameplay, who it is meant for, and where it fits in the pack's progression (including any ATM Star path) could not be confirmed from the available sources. This page lists no recipes, config options or quests for the mod, because none were provided.
How do you get started with Epitaphs?
3 parts
Epitaphs is all about what happens when you die: it deals with graves, soulbound gear and automatic backups. The one item with a crafting recipe in this pack is the Grave, so that's where you start.[2][3]

What to know before you die
- Finding your way back: the mod shows a hint telling you to use a key to find your way back to your grave. The hint doesn't name the key, so check your controls menu.[3]
- Trapped souls: a grave can hold a trapped soul, and the mod hints that a bottle could work to free it. If a villager dies near a grave without a soul, its soul will inhabit the grave.[3]
- Old deaths: graves you have already claimed are kept as old deaths. The config option for how many are kept has a default of 5.[3]
- Dimensions: the mod has a dimension blacklist that stops graves spawning in listed dimensions. Its default is an empty list.[3]
A safety net: Soulbound
The mod adds a Soulbound enchantment, which keeps the item on you after death. There is also Experience Soulbound, which keeps the item and 1/4th of your XP. To get Experience Soulbound, combine an armor piece with an experience bottle in an anvil.[3]
Backups
Epitaphs also backs up all players automatically. The config defaults are a backup every 10 minutes and a maximum of 10 backups kept. Deleting backups by age is off by default.[3]
How does Epitaphs work?
4 parts
Epitaphs is built around the Grave. Below is what the mod's own tooltips and descriptions explain, plus the pack's recipe for the Grave.[2][3]

Souls in graves
Graves can hold a trapped soul. One hint says a soul is still trapped within a grave and that a bottle could work. Another says that if a villager dies near a grave without a soul, the villager's soul will inhabit the grave.[3]
The mod's default for the villager death distance is 6, and setting it to 0 disables the feature.[3]
Soulbound enchantments
Soulbound keeps the enchanted item on you after death. To get Experience Soulbound, combine an armor piece with an experience bottle in an anvil. Experience Soulbound also keeps 1/4th of your XP.[3]
Backups and old deaths
Epitaphs automatically backs up all players at a set interval, and there is a preview screen for browsing those backups. From the preview you can list every backup of a player, click to give yourself an item, or close the preview and put the recover command in chat. If an old save has been automatically deleted, the mod shows a message saying it was created before a given date and purged.[3]
- Backup interval: the mod default is 10 minutes between automatic backups of all players. 0 disables it.[3]
- Maximum backups: the mod default keeps 10 backups.[3]
- Backup age limit: the mod default is 0, which disables removal of old backups. Any other value is the number of days backups are kept before being permanently removed.[3]
- Old deaths: the mod default keeps 5. These come from graves that have already been claimed.[3]
- Blacklisted dimensions: the mod default is an empty list. Any dimension on the list is one where graves are blocked from spawning.[3]
- Tooltip time format: grave tooltips can use ISO8601 or SYSTEM, which follows your system settings. The mod default is SYSTEM.[3]
Unverified No config files for Epitaphs ship in the pack, so the sources here do not show whether the pack changes any of these defaults. Treat the values above as the mod's defaults, not as confirmed pack values.
How do you progress through Epitaphs?
The only progression detail the sources confirm for Epitaphs is a single crafted item, the Grave, which has a shaped crafting recipe in this pack.[2]
