What is Dungeon Crawl?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Dungeon Crawl adds big underground dungeon structures to the overworld for you to find and explore. Each dungeon has its own randomized layout, size, loot and look, so no dungeon is quite like the last one.[1]

The pack ships Dungeon Crawl 2.3.17 for NeoForge. Recent versions of the mod are NeoForge-only, and older ones used Forge.[1][2]

Where it comes from

The mod is a spiritual successor to the 1.x versions of the Roguelike Dungeons mod by Greymerk. It reuses most of that mod's room designs and general architectural style, and it aims to expand on the original content with more configuration options.[1]

You can customize the mod extensively through data packs. For example, you can add mobs, loot, custom themes and more.[1]

The mod's author says it is still in active development and is not considered complete.[1]

Quest book placement

Unverified The sources here do not show a quest chapter, group or position for Dungeon Crawl, and they do not show whether the ATM Star path uses it. The pack's own quest book is where that would be told.

How do you get started with Dungeon Crawl?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Dungeon Crawl generates large underground dungeon structures in the overworld. The sources for this pack don't point to any item you need to craft first, so getting started is about finding a dungeon and heading in.[1]

Each dungeon's layout, size, loot and aesthetics are randomized, so don't expect every dungeon to feel the same.[1]

What to do first

  1. Look underground in the overworld. That is where the mod places its dungeon structures.[1]
  2. Explore each dungeon as a fresh layout. Size and loot are randomized, so some dungeons will be bigger or richer than others.[1]
Tip: The mod is still in active development and isn't considered complete, so expect it to keep changing.[1]

Customizing dungeons

The mod can be customized extensively through data packs. You can add mobs, loot, custom themes and more. The project page says more information will come on its wiki after the 3.0 update.[1]

Unverified Any Dungeon Crawl recipes, quests or config changes in this pack would show up in the pack's recipe viewer, quest book and config files. The sources here do not show any, so this section doesn't describe them. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Dungeon Crawl work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide

Dungeon Crawl is a world generation mod. It adds large underground dungeons to the overworld, and each dungeon's layout, size, loot and look are randomized. So the mechanics here are about where dungeons spawn and what you can pull out of them.[1]

Where dungeons generate

Dungeons use a random spread placement with a spacing of 32 and a separation of 12. They are built in the underground structures step, with terrain adaptation set to none, so the dungeon doesn't reshape the land around it.[3][4]

They only appear in certain biomes. The list covers badlands, beaches, forests, hills, jungles, mountains and taigas, plus plains, snowy plains, sunflower plains, desert, ice spikes, savanna, savanna plateau, windswept savanna, stony shore and swamp.[4][5]

Loot you can find

Each room type has its own loot table. The secret room chest makes 8 rolls. Its entries are cobweb, emerald, lapis lazuli, books, maps and a range of music discs.[6]

The forge chest has two pools. One guarantees Coal, 1 to 2 rolls of 4 to 8 each. The other makes 2 to 4 rolls over iron ingots (4 to 8), enchanted iron and chainmail armor (enchanted at level 5), an iron block, an iron sword and a random item at loot level 1.[7]

The library chest makes 8 to 14 rolls. Entries are books (3 to 6), ink sacs (1 to 5), feathers (3 to 6), writable books (3 to 6), cobweb (8 to 14) and enchanted books at loot level 3.[8]

Dispenser loot

The mod ships three dispenser loot tables, each rolled 2 to 4 times, and each gives 3 to 9 arrows per arrow roll. Tier 1 mixes arrows with splash potions of poison. Tier 2 adds splash potions of harming. Tier 3 uses long poison and strong harming potions.[9][10][11]

Wither skeleton drops

The mod includes a wither skeleton loot override that drops coal and bones. The coal count runs from -1 to 1, and both drops get a looting bonus of up to 1.[12]

Customizing and what's unconfirmed

The mod is customized through data packs: you can add mobs, loot, custom themes and more. The author says more detail will come on the mod's wiki after the 3.0 update. The project is still in active development.[1]

Unverified The contents of the stage 1 to 5, food, supply and treasure chest loot tables are set in the mod's loot table data files, and the sources here do not show them, so they are not described.

How do you progress through Dungeon Crawl?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide

Dungeon Crawl adds dungeons to your world, and the data files I have cover where they generate and what their chests hold. They don't spell out a tier-by-tier path, so this section sticks to what the files show. The dungeon is a single structure with a weight of 1, placed with random spread, spacing 32 and separation 12.[3]

Forge chest: early gear

The forge chest is the clearest early-game stop. Its loot table has a pool named guaranteed_coal, then a second pool that leans on iron gear. Here is what the file contains, as shipped in the mod's jar. Nothing in the sources shows the pack changing it.[7]

  • Guaranteed coal pool: 1 to 2 rolls, each giving 4 to 8 Coal.[7]
  • Forge pool: 2 to 4 rolls from a list that includes 4 to 8 Iron Ingot, an Iron Block and an Iron Sword.[7]
  • Iron and chainmail armor pieces (helmet, chestplate, leggings, boots) can show up enchanted at level 5.[7]
  • One entry in the pool hands out a random item at loot level 1 through the mod's own random item function.[7]

Traps: dispensers

The first dispenser loot table does 2 to 4 rolls. It picks between Arrow (3 to 9 per roll, weight 2) and a poison splash potion (weight 1). So most of what a trap fires at you is arrows, with the occasional poison potion mixed in.[9]

Secret rooms: the odd rewards

Secret room chests roll 8 times. The common results are cobweb (weight 9), Emerald (weight 8), a stack of Lapis Lazuli (weight 3), some Book (weight 3) and a Map (weight 3).[6]

Music discs are in the same pool without a listed weight: 11, 13, blocks, chirp, cat, far, mall, mellohi, stal, strad, wait and ward. This is a place to look for discs and trade goods rather than gear.[6]

Unverified The stage_1 to stage_5 chest loot tables in the mod's data also hold chest loot, but their contents could not be checked here, so how the loot changes from one stage to the next is unconfirmed.

What changed in Dungeon Crawl between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta ships Dungeon Crawl 2.3.17. The pack's mod list shows the mod was first included in All the Mods 11 0.0.4 or earlier.[13]

Dungeon Crawl 2.3.17

This is the version the pack runs, and the mod's own changelog lists these changes:[13][14]

  • The mod was updated to Minecraft 26.1.[14]
  • The floor height calculation was updated so it works better with extreme ground heights.[14]
  • The "fixed generation height" config option was removed as a result of the floor height change, so it is no longer available in this version.[14]

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as dungeoncrawl, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
