DeepNull Reforged (DankNull) [NeoForge/Fabric] is a mod in All the Mods 11 0.12.0-beta, where it is version 4.2.1. A custom inventory solution to place, store, and manage items and fluids. Forked from /dank/null originally made by p455w0rd. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is DeepNull Reforged (DankNull) [NeoForge/Fabric]?

3 parts

DeepNull Reforged is a portable storage mod: a modern NeoForge rebuild of the classic /dank/null idea, made for Minecraft 1.21.1. This pack ships version 4.2.1. It's built around active use, automation and upgrades, not just a place to dump items.[1][2][3]

The two main tools

DeepNulls are the item half. Each slot locks to one item type and holds far more than a normal stack. You can place or use the selected slot straight from the item in your hand. That works for stored blocks, buckets, food, potions and many other right-click items. DeepNulls also absorb matching items automatically if that item is already inside.[1][4]

DampNulls are the fluid half. They keep several fluids at once in internal tanks, can place and pick up source fluids in the world, and can transfer with compatible tanks. With Mekanism installed, the Chemical Upgrade adds chemical transfer to them.[1][5][6]

Tiers at a glance

Both tools come in tiers: Redstone, Lapis, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Emerald and Creative. According to the mod's in-game guide, a Redstone DeepNull has 9 slots of 128 items each. An Emerald DeepNull has 54 slots of 2,147,483,647 each. A Redstone DampNull has 9 tanks of 8,000 mB, and the Gold tier and above have 18 tanks.[4][5]

What else is in the box

  • Upgrades add behaviors such as filtering, automatic eating, automatic smelting of world pickups, 2x2 and 3x3 compression, FE storage, and stone or obsidian generation.[1][7][8][9][10]
  • The Docking Station holds a DeepNull or DampNull and exposes item, fluid and energy storage to pipes, storage buses and tanks. It also exposes chemical storage when the Chemical Upgrade is installed.[1][11]
  • The Null Workbench crafts, restyles and syncs Nulls. It can also convert a same-tier DeepNull into a DampNull using a Bucket Upgrade.[1][5][12]
  • JEI crafting transfer can pull ingredients from the DeepNulls you carry.[11]
Tip: Shift + Scroll cycles the selected DeepNull slot or DampNull tank while you hold it. Middle Click selects a matching stored block when possible.[11][13]

The mod has client, common and server configs. The server config covers upgrade toggles and tier balance values, so the numbers above can be tuned by pack authors.[13]

Unverified The sources don't show where this mod sits in the pack's progression, and no quests involve it. The tier numbers above come from the mod's in-game guide, and nothing I was given confirms whether the pack changed them from the mod's defaults.

How do you get started with DeepNull Reforged (DankNull) [NeoForge/Fabric]?

5 parts

DeepNull Reforged gives you two portable tools: the DeepNull for item storage and direct item use, and the DampNull for tank-based fluid storage. The mod's own quick start is short: craft a tier, open it from your hotbar or use it in hand, select a slot or tank, then add upgrades for the behaviors you want. Here is that path in order.[3]

Step 1: Make your first DeepNull

Start with the base DeepNull. It is the Redstone tier, with 9 slots and a capacity of 128 per slot. Each slot locks to one item type.[4]

DeepNulls can also be crafted from tier panels. To reach a higher tier, you upgrade from the previous DeepNull by surrounding it with the next panel tier in a cross pattern. The first panel is the Redstone DeepNull Panel.[4]

Step 2: Learn the basics of using it

  1. Open or close the DeepNull from your hotbar. The mod has a hotkey for exactly that.[11][14]
  2. Pick the slot you want to use. Hold the DeepNull and use Shift + Scroll to cycle through slots, or select one in the GUI.[1][11]
  3. Use stored blocks, buckets, food and other right-click items straight from the DeepNull in your hand.[4]
  4. Keep matching items flowing in. A DeepNull automatically absorbs matching items if that item already exists inside it.[1]

Step 3: Craft the Upgrade Core and your first upgrades

The Upgrade Core is the shared crafting component for most upgrades, so make it before you start on upgrades.[15]

Watch out: Auto-Smelting only applies to world pickup, not dock transfer or inventory transfer, and ore blocks are intentionally excluded.[9]
Tip: Do not craft tier-locked upgrades too early. The Filter Upgrade needs Iron tier or above, and the Energy Upgrade needs Diamond tier or above.[16][17]

Step 4: Add the Null Workbench

The Null Workbench is the dedicated block for special Null crafting. It has reduced-cost workbench recipes, a Sync tab that uses the Synchronizer to back up and restore a Null's configuration, and a Style tab for frame and glass colors.[18]

Step 5: Go for fluids and automation

When you want fluid storage, you can convert a same-tier DeepNull into a DampNull in the Null Workbench by adding a Bucket Upgrade. You can also craft DampNulls directly. The lowest DampNull tier, DampNull, has 9 tanks of 8,000 mB each.[5][18]

How does DeepNull Reforged (DankNull) [NeoForge/Fabric] work?

11 parts

DeepNull Reforged is built around two portable tools. DeepNull handles item storage and direct item use, and DampNull handles tank-based fluid storage. Everything else in the mod, from upgrades to the docking station, builds on those two.[3][4][5]

There are no machines or multiblocks to build here. The 'machine' side is one block, the docking station, plus a workbench for special crafting. Every number below comes from the mod's own guide, so check it against your world if you see different behavior.[1][18][19]

DeepNull item storage

Each DeepNull slot locks to one item type and can hold far more than a normal stack. The selected slot can be placed or used straight from your hand. DeepNulls also auto-absorb matching items when that item already exists inside.[1][4]

  • Redstone: 9 slots, 128 per slot.[4]
  • Lapis: 18 slots, 512 per slot.[4]
  • Iron: 27 slots, 1,152 per slot.[4]
  • Gold: 36 slots, 2,048 per slot.[4]
  • Diamond: 45 slots, 3,200 per slot.[4]
  • Emerald and Creative: 54 slots, 2,147,483,647 per slot.[4]

Each slot has its own extraction and placement rules, tag matching, selection and custom minimum extraction amounts. In the GUI, Ctrl+Click cycles extraction mode, P+Click cycles placement mode, and Middle Click sets a custom minimum.[1][11][14]

DampNull fluid storage

DampNulls store several fluids at once in separate tanks. They can place source fluids into the world and pick them back up from source blocks. The tank count and size depend on the tier.[1][5]

  • Redstone: 9 tanks of 8,000 mB.[5]
  • Lapis: 9 tanks of 16,000 mB.[5]
  • Iron: 9 tanks of 32,000 mB.[5]
  • Gold: 18 tanks of 64,000 mB.[5]
  • Diamond: 18 tanks of 128,000 mB.[5]
  • Emerald: 18 tanks of 256,000 mB.[5]
  • Creative: 18 tanks with infinite-style behavior.[5]

With Mekanism installed, a Chemical Upgrade adds chemical transfer to DampNulls. It is transfer only, with no world placement or pickup, and each tank slot holds one chemical.[6]

Controls and transfer

Shift+Scroll cycles the selected DeepNull slot. On a DampNull, Left Click selects a tank and Shift+Left Click clears it. Both can be opened or closed from the hotbar with a hotkey.[11]

Shift+Right Click is the main transfer action, and it only works when transfer is unlocked. It first tries to push contents into a compatible inventory or tank, and if nothing can be pushed it tries to pull matching contents back in. If you aim at a normal block, normal placement still works. If you aim at nothing reachable, it opens the GUI.[11]

Tip: The invertDampNullInteraction client setting flips this for DampNulls so they behave like Mekanism tanks: right click opens the GUI and Shift+Right Click handles fluids.[13]

Docking Station automation

The DeepNull Docking Station holds one DeepNull or DampNull and exposes it to automation. It offers item storage, fluid storage and energy storage, plus chemical storage when the Chemical Upgrade is installed. That makes it work with pipes, storage buses, tanks and other standard NeoForge automation.[11][14][19]

Right-click the dock with a Null in hand to place it. Items can only be extracted from a docked DeepNull, not inserted from the bottom, and the extraction speed is set by whatever block is pulling from the dock.[14]

Docked generator DampNulls send their item output into a hidden dock buffer, whose size is set by the dockGeneratorBufferSize server setting.[13][19]

Upgrades

Upgrades turn the storage items into automation tools. Energy and Deep Energy share one slot, and the Stone Generator and Obsidian Generator share one DampNull slot. Which upgrades fit depends on the tier. For example, the Filter Upgrade needs Iron or higher, and the Energy Upgrade needs Diamond or higher.[4][16][17][20]

DeepNull upgrades

  • Filter Upgrade adds ghost-item filtering with whitelist, blacklist and preset modes. It controls what can enter matching slots.[16]
  • Bucket Upgrade lets a DeepNull use stored buckets and compatible fluid containers directly from item slots. It is separate from DampNull tank storage.[12]
  • Auto-Feeding Upgrade eats stored food when you need hunger, and the food is actually consumed.[8]
  • Auto-Smelting Upgrade smelts supported world pickups when the raw or cooked result is already stored. It does not apply to dock or inventory transfer, and ore blocks are excluded.[9]
  • Basic Compression Upgrade and Advanced Compression Upgrade auto-craft supported 2x2 and 3x3 self-recipes, but only when the compressed result is already stored.[7][10]
  • Stoneworks Upgrade converts stored cobblestone down a round-robin chain to keep dirt, gravel, sand, dust, clay and glass stocked. Clay needs a carried DampNull with water, and glass needs Auto-Smelting as well.[21]

Energy

The Energy Upgrade adds FE storage and charging to DeepNulls. Diamond holds 100,000 FE with a 2,000 FE/t transfer rate, and Emerald holds 1,000,000 FE with 20,000 FE/t. Creative has infinite-style behavior.[17]

On Emerald, the Deep Energy Upgrade replaces that with 25,000,000 FE and 100,000 FE/t. It requires an energy upgrade and shares its slot.[14][20][22]

DampNull generators and sponge

The Stone Generator makes a selected stone variant while water and lava are both present. It needs 1000 mB of each but does not consume them. The rate is 1/s on Redstone, 2/s on Lapis, 3/s on Iron, 4/s on Gold, 5/s on Diamond and 10/s on Emerald and Creative. The options are cobblestone, diorite, andesite, granite, cobbled deepslate and tuff.[14][23]

The Obsidian Generator makes 1 obsidian per 5 seconds at every tier. Unlike the stone version, it consumes 1,000 mB of water and 1,000 mB of lava each time.[24]

Generator output routes differently depending on how the DampNull is used. When carried, the stone generator only outputs into a DeepNull that already stores the block or explicitly filters it. When docked, output goes into the dock buffer.[14]

The Sponge Upgrade absorbs every visible source block in a box centered on the block you right-click, in one use. Blocked-off terrain is not reached. Only fluids that fit matching or empty tanks are stored, unless voidFullFluidsOnSponge is on, in which case matching fluids aimed at a full tank are still absorbed and voided.[13][25]

  • Redstone: 6 horizontal, 4 vertical.[25]
  • Lapis and Iron: 8 horizontal, 6 vertical.[25]
  • Gold: 10 horizontal, 8 vertical.[25]
  • Diamond: 12 horizontal, 10 vertical.[25]
  • Emerald and Creative: 16 horizontal, 12 vertical.[25]

Ender Upgrade linking

The Ender Upgrade works on both DeepNulls and DampNulls at every tier. It mirrors the storage of a docked Null of the same type and tier, even across dimensions.[19][26]

  1. Shift-right-click a docked Null with the Ender Upgrade to link it.[26]
  2. Install the linked upgrade into another Null of the same type and tier.[26]
  3. The installed Null mirrors the docked source until the source Null is removed or the dock is broken.[26]

Null Workbench and Synchronizer

The Null Workbench has three tabs: Craft for reduced-cost recipes, Sync for backing up and restoring a Null configuration, and Style for frame and glass colors. Automation on it defaults to the crafting side only. It is also where a DeepNull becomes a DampNull, using a same-tier DeepNull plus a Bucket Upgrade.[12][18]

The Synchronizer stores a configuration snapshot: filter settings, upgrade settings and behavior toggles. It does not copy stored items, fluids, chemicals or energy. Put a Null and a Synchronizer in the Sync tab and press Back Up, then put a fresh compatible Null and the stored Synchronizer in and press Restore. Each action takes 3 seconds and returns both items on the right.[18][27]

To wipe a configured Synchronizer, Shift-right click in the air with it, or put it alone in any crafting grid.[27]

Config toggles worth knowing

Many behaviors have server-side on/off switches: enableAutoPickup, enableAutoFeeding, enableAutoSmelting, enableCompression, enableStoneworks, enableStoneGenerator, enableObsidianGenerator, enableSpongeUpgrade and enableChemicalStorage. A disabled feature shows as 'Disabled by server config' in its tooltip. Capacities, energy rates, tank counts and sponge sizes are also set by per-tier arrays in the server config, read in the order Redstone, Lapis, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Emerald, Creative.[13][14]

Unverified The pack ships no config files for this mod, so it is unconfirmed whether the pack changed any of the tier capacities, FE rates, generator rates or sponge sizes above. Treat them as the mod's documented values.

How do you progress through DeepNull Reforged (DankNull) [NeoForge/Fabric]?

4 parts

Progression for this mod is a tier ladder. Tiers are read in this order: Redstone, Lapis, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Emerald and Creative. The tier sets how much a Null can hold and which upgrades you can install.[13][16][17]

Unverified The sources here show no quests in this pack that involve this mod, so there is no quest chapter to follow. Check the pack's quest book in-game if you want to confirm that. The tier ladder below is the progression path.

The tier ladder

DeepNulls come in these craftable steps: DeepNull, DeepNull MK II, DeepNull MK III, DeepNull MK IV, DeepNull MK V and DeepNull MK VI. The DampNull line (tank storage for fluids) has the same steps, from DampNull up to DampNull MK VI.[12][28]

There are also panel items named after the tiers: the Redstone DeepNull Panel, Lapis DeepNull Panel, Iron DeepNull Panel, Gold DeepNull Panel, Diamond DeepNull Panel and Emerald DeepNull Panel.[28]

Values such as item capacity, fluid capacity, FE capacity and Sponge size are server config arrays, read in the tier order above.[13]

What each tier unlocks

The Ender Upgrade works on both DeepNulls and DampNulls at every tier. It links to a docked Null of the same type and tier, so both must match.[20][26]

DampNull upgrades and tier scaling

The Sponge Upgrade is DampNull-only and works at every tier, but its reach grows with the tier. Here is the horizontal and vertical box size for each one.[25]

  • Redstone: 6 horizontal, 4 vertical.[25]
  • Lapis and Iron: 8 horizontal, 6 vertical.[25]
  • Gold: 10 horizontal, 8 vertical.[25]
  • Diamond: 12 horizontal, 10 vertical.[25]
  • Emerald and Creative: 16 horizontal, 12 vertical.[25]

The other DampNull upgrades are the Stone Generator and Obsidian Generator, which share one DampNull slot. The Chemical Upgrade adds Mekanism chemical support to DampNulls when Mekanism is installed.[6][20]

Tip: Energy and Deep Energy share one slot, so at Emerald tier you choose one or the other for that slot. Plan your slot choices before you craft.[20][22]

What changed in DeepNull Reforged (DankNull) [NeoForge/Fabric] between versions?

2 parts

All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships DeepNull Reforged 4.2.1. The mod was already in the pack as of 0.0.10 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs for the two newest releases.[2]

4.2.1

This is a hotfix for Minecraft 26.1 and 26.1.2 on NeoForge. It is about regression fixes and automation compatibility, not new features.[31]

  • Stored stacks are no longer exposed incorrectly to external item automation. Before, some mods could collapse very large stored stacks down to a single normal stack during round-trip updates.[31]
  • The pickup delay on tossed items now only applies when a DeepNull could actually absorb that item, instead of hitting unrelated tossed items globally.[31]
  • Crafting Tweaks compatibility is fixed across the newer API variants, so the DeepNull clear-grid integration no longer fails during initialization on affected setups.[31]
  • The DeepNull Dock's block capability handling for external automation is fixed, so mods like Pipez can interact with it more reliably. Docked generator-buffer extraction through that path is fixed too.[31]
  • Dock fluid and energy capability state now stays synchronized across side-based automation queries. This addresses the stale-state path behind reported fluid duplication with AE2-style setups.[31]

4.2.0-beta

This beta for Minecraft 26.1 on NeoForge synced the 26.1 branch with the newer 1.21.1 updates through the 4.2.0 line. It also added support for 26.1.2 while keeping 26.1.[32]

  • A global auto-pickup toggle was added, with persistent player state, a client hotkey and in-game feedback messages. Newly tossed items are also no longer immediately re-absorbed by auto-pickup.[32]
  • A new Connections filter preset mode covers connection-style items such as pipes, cables and similar transport components.[32]
  • DampNull fluid handling changed so gas-only configurations reject normal fluid insertion. Docked DampNulls also gained right-click fluid container transfer.[32]
  • Dock automation extraction now follows the newer logic for the default keep-one behavior and for explicit keep amounts.[32]
  • The supported stoneworks amount was raised from the older small cap to the newer full-range behavior, and the text entry limit was increased to match.[32]
  • Transfer-from-target matching now extracts only items that were actually accepted from connected inventories.[32]
  • The newer DampNull default fluid-capacity values were brought over. Older server configs get migration handling that corrects the legacy DampNull fluid-capacity defaults automatically.[32]
  • A Crafting Tweaks return-integration config toggle was added to match the current main branch.[32]
  • GUI input mapping now covers primary, secondary and tertiary DeepNull actions. DeepNull, DampNull and Null Workbench screens follow the newer branch behavior more closely.[32]
  • JEI crafting transfer now validates better when a transfer cannot be completed, and the newer AE2 transfer behavior changes were synced in.[32]
