What is Classic Pipes?

2 parts

Classic Pipes is an item and fluid transport mod. It takes its inspiration from old versions of Buildcraft and Logistics Pipes, but it is built from scratch to match the look of modern Minecraft.[1]

It adds basic item and fluid transport pipes. On top of those, it adds a system of networked pipes that you can hook up to your chests and machines to sort, fetch, and craft items automatically.[1]

Who it is for

If you like the classic pipe style of moving items around, or you want to automate storage with sorting, fetching and crafting instead of just moving items from A to B, this mod is for you.[1]

In this pack

This pack includes Classic Pipes 1.1.7, using the NeoForge build of the mod.[2]

The mod's author has made a video tutorial and a wiki for getting started with the mod. Both are linked from the mod's project page.[1]

Unverified The sources I was given don't show where Classic Pipes fits in this pack's progression, and they don't show any pack-specific changes to its recipes or configs. Check the in-game recipes before you plan a build around it. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Classic Pipes?

4 parts

Classic Pipes is an item and fluid transport mod inspired by old Buildcraft and Logistics Pipes. It adds basic pipes, plus a system of networked pipes you can hook up to chests and machines to sort, fetch, and craft items automatically. Here's the order I'd tackle it in.[1]

Make a wooden pipe

Every wood type has its own wooden pipe recipe in this pack, and each also has a matching wooden fluid pipe. Wooden pipes are worth having around because the Nether Brick Pipe only connects to wooden and brick pipes.[3][4]

Pull items out with copper

The Copper Pipe extracts items from containers, so it is the pipe that gets things moving out of a chest. Once that works, the Advanced Copper Pipe extracts full stacks and can be filtered.[3][4]

Control where items go

The Iron Pipe routes items in a single direction. The Lapis Pipe prioritises inserting items into containers.[3][4]

Move up to a pipe network

Networked pipes are what let you sort, fetch, and craft automatically. The Networked Provider Pipe allows a network to pull from the adjacent container. The Networked Matching Pipe routes items matching the contents of the adjacent container.[1][3][4]

A Routing Pipe routes items to other networked pipes and goes at the junctions of your network. A Request Pipe lets you request items from the network. A Storage Pipe combines the functions of a Matching Pipe and a Provider Pipe, which is handy for a quick and simple storage system.[4]

When you are ready for auto-crafting, the Networked Recipe Pipe routes ingredients for crafting requested items. You attach it to a Crafter or another processing system.[3][4]

Watch out: Don't use brick pipes on a line you want to pull from or push into a chest. The Brick Pipe never connects to containers, and the Brick Fluid Pipe never connects to tanks.[3][4]

For more on getting started, the mod's author points to a video tutorial and the Classic Pipes Wiki, both linked from the mod's project page.[1]

How does Classic Pipes work?

5 parts

Classic Pipes is an item and fluid transport mod inspired by old Buildcraft and Logistics Pipes. Besides basic item and fluid pipes, it adds a system of networked pipes that you hook up to chests and machines to sort, fetch and craft items automatically.[1]

Basic item and fluid pipes

Most pipe types come in an item version and a fluid version. The in-game tooltips describe what each one does, so here is the rundown.[4]

Inverted versions, like Inverted Advanced Copper Pipe and Inverted Advanced Copper Fluid Pipe, have inverted redstone behaviour.[4]

Here is how the plain Copper Pipe is crafted in this pack:[3]

Networked pipes

This is where the mod gets really fun. Networked pipes link up so you can pull items out of storage on demand and even autocraft them.[1][4]

  • Routing Pipe routes items to other networked pipes. The tooltip says to place it at the junctions of your network.[4]
  • Request Pipe lets you request items from a network. Using one to withdraw an item from a network even has its own advancement.[4]
  • Provider Pipe allows a network to pull from the adjacent container.[4]
  • Matching Pipe routes items matching the contents of the adjacent container.[4]
  • Storage Pipe combines the functions of a Matching Pipe and a Provider Pipe, which makes it useful for a quick and simple storage system.[4]
  • Stocking Pipe keeps a container stocked with items from a network.[4]
  • Recipe Pipe routes ingredients for auto-crafting requested items. You attach it to a Crafter or another processing system.[4]

Pipe settings

Several networked pipes have options you can tick. These are the ones with tooltips:[4]

  • Default route: when checked, items are routed to this pipe when they have nowhere else to go.[4]
  • Active stocking: when checked, the pipe actively requests items from the network. Otherwise it passively stocks the container when matching items happen to pass through the network.[4]
  • Leave one: when checked, one item of each type stays in the attached container and is inaccessible to the network.[4]
  • Match components: when checked, the components of an item (damage, enchantments, etc.) must match the item in the filter. A variant of this option instead requires them to match the item in the container.[4]
  • Blocking mode: when checked, the pipe holds ingredients until the previous result arrives. The tooltip recommends leaving it on to prevent overflowing.[4]
Tip: Leave blocking mode on for your autocrafting setups. The tooltip itself recommends it to prevent overflowing.[4]

Autocrafting

The Recipe Pipe is what makes autocrafting work. Its tooltips use the wording "Sending ingredient" and "Expecting result from", so it sends ingredients out and then expects the result back. The mod's advancements show how deep this can go: one asks you to request an item that needs at least 8 crafting steps, and another asks you to use a Recipe Pipe to craft a Recipe Pipe.[4]

Filter labels and the Pipe Slicer

  • Mod Label: use it with an offhand item to set a filter to that item's mod.[4]
  • Tag Label: use it with an offhand item to cycle through that item's tags.[4]
  • Pipe Slicer: its tooltip reads "Requests items to any networked pipe."[4]

Unverified Whether Classic Pipes has any adjustable settings beyond the in-game options above is not shown by the sources here, because no config files for this mod were available. Check the pack itself for anything more.

How do you progress through Classic Pipes?

What changed in Classic Pipes between versions?

5 parts

All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships Classic Pipes 1.1.7 for NeoForge 26.1.2. The mod was already in the pack by All the Mods 11 0.0.11 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first, covering the releases from 1.1.3 to 1.1.7.[2]

1.1.7 (the version in this pack)

  • Routing Pipes and Request Pipes now show an arrow in their unlinked texture, so you can see which direction they will send items.[5]
  • Recipes that share intermediate ingredients no longer get jammed because the network was requesting Air.[5]
  • A Routing Pipe directly next to a container can now send items that don't fit in that container to a default route.[5]

1.1.6

  • Added Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese translations.[6]
  • Fixed "match components" being ignored in Stocking Pipes.[6]
  • Fixed Fluid Pipes wiping fluid data, such as Create potion types.[6]
  • Fixed a crash when extracting empty fluid stacks, and fixed fluid filters rejecting fluids that have no defined bucket item.[6]
  • On NeoForge 26.1.2, fixed Fluid Pipes sometimes failing to extract from fluid handlers with multiple tanks.[6]

1.1.5

  • Performance improvement: fewer items are rendered inside a pipe the further it is from the camera.[7]
  • Fixed "Leave One" not working in Storage Pipes.[7]
  • Fixed some serialization issues involving large item stacks.[7]

1.1.4

  • Fixed a crash when other mods, such as Trash Slot, render custom slots inside the request GUI.[8]
  • Fixed networks undercounting items in oversized container slots, such as upgraded Sophisticated Storage containers.[8]
  • Fixed Stocking and Matching Pipes being unable to see non-extractable container slots. Tech Reborn machines, for example, no longer get overstocked.[8]
  • On Forge and NeoForge, pipes now stay connected to item handlers even when they have no accessible slots. This fixed a compatibility issue with machines from FTB Stuff & Things.[8]
  • Updated the Russian translation with features from version 1.1.[8]

1.1.3

  • Fixed potential problems when removing items from vanilla-style containers.[9]
  • Fixed Request Pipes breaking when a network holds more than 2,147,483,647 of the same item.[9]

Some entries in these changelogs only apply to other game versions or loaders, such as the 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 fixes, so I left those out because they don't affect this pack.[5][8][9]
