What is Rainbows?
2 parts
Rainbows is a small, purely visual mod that adds rainbows to the sky. You get single and double rainbows that show up after rain showers, which gives your worlds a bit of wonder between expeditions.[1]
It's for you if you like a prettier overworld and don't want to chase new machines or recipes. Nothing in the sources describes it as adding items, blocks or gameplay mechanics, so think of it as atmosphere rather than progression.[1]
What you can customize
The rainbows are configurable. You can change their size, their distance and their transparency, and you can choose which dimensions or biomes they can appear in. That's handy if you want them subtle, or if you'd rather keep them out of certain places.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Rainbows 1.3, using the file Rainbows-1.21-1.3.jar. The mod has been in the pack since version 1.20 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[2]
Unverified The sources don't show any role for Rainbows in the pack's progression, any ATM Star path connection, or any quests involving it. They also don't say whether the pack changes any of its default config values, so check the config files in your own instance before relying on specific numbers.
How do you get started with Rainbows?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Good news: there is nothing to craft to get started with Rainbows. The mod just adds new rainbows to the world, so you don't need to gather anything first.[1]
You'll see both single and double rainbows appear in the sky after rain showers. Once the weather clears, look up.[1]
What you can tweak
Parts of the rainbow can be customized through the mod's configuration. These are the options the mod advertises:[1]
- The size of the rainbow (the project page says the mod currently supports this).[1]
- The distance the rainbow appears at (the project page says the mod currently supports this).[1]
- The transparency of the rainbow (the project page says the mod currently supports this).[1]
- Which dimensions the rainbow can appear in.[1]
- Which biomes the rainbow can appear in.[1]
Unverified This pack has no recipes, quests or items tied to the mod that I can confirm. I also can't confirm the exact config file or option names, or whether the pack changes any default values. Check the mod's config file in your instance before relying on specific settings.
How does Rainbows work?
1 part
Good news: this mod is simple. Rainbows is a purely atmospheric mod. The project page describes it as adding single and double rainbows to the sky after rain showers, and it mentions no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation.[1]
What you can customize
The project page says parts of the rainbow can be configured. It lists size, distance and transparency, plus which dimensions and which biomes rainbows can appear in.[1]
In practice, that means whether you see a rainbow depends on the weather (it appears after rain) and on the dimension and biome you're standing in, as long as those settings allow it.[1]
Unverified The pack has no config files for this mod that I can read, so I can't confirm its actual values for rainbow size, distance, transparency, or the allowed dimensions and biomes. I also can't confirm how often rainbows appear here. The mod's defaults may or may not match what the pack uses.
Which Rainbows config options matter?
Rainbows is a small mod, and its project page lists a handful of things you can configure. You can change the size of the rainbows, how far away they appear, and how transparent they are. You can also choose which dimensions and biomes they can appear in.[1]
If you want to tweak how the rainbows look or where they show up, those are the options to look for. Dimensions and biomes are the ones most likely to matter if you want rainbows in some places and not others.[1]
Unverified I don't have this pack's config file for the mod, so I can't tell you the exact option names or the values the pack uses. I also can't say whether the pack changed anything from the mod defaults. Check the config in your own instance before relying on any specific value.
What changed in Rainbows between versions?
3 parts
All the Mods 10 2.11 ships Rainbows 1.3, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 1.20 or earlier. Here is what the mod's own changelogs list for the versions I have notes on.[2]
Rainbows 1.3
- A new automatic config updater. Whenever a new version comes around, it updates your configs for you.[3]
- Rainbows now use easing functions when you enter and exit biomes from the allowed biomes list config, so they no longer suddenly pop in or vanish from the sky.[3]
Turning off auto updates
- To stop it for one config, set "shouldAutoUpdate" to false inside that individual config.[3]
- To handle updates yourself for everything, set the globalShouldAutoUpdate option to false in the normal config file.[3]
Rainbows 1.2.2
- Version requirements for optional mods were updated.[4]
- A rare issue was fixed. The changelog doesn't say what it was.[4]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for Rainbows were available to the sources here, so any changes the modpack itself made to this mod across releases are unconfirmed. The pack's own changelogs are where those would be listed.
