What is Nature's Compass?
3 parts
Nature's Compass is a compass that finds biomes for you. Instead of wandering for ages looking for a specific biome, you can search for it and the compass points you straight to it, wherever it is in the world.[1]
Nature's Compass is included in All the Mods 10 4.5 and has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier.[2]
How it works
- Right-click with the compass to open the biome selection screen. From there you can search for a biome or view information about it.[1]
- Once it finds a biome, information about that biome shows up on your HUD.[1]
- Shift-right-click to reset the compass.[1]
- When the compass isn't pointing at a biome, it points at the world spawn.[1]
- It supports every registered biome, both vanilla and modded, so it covers all the extra biomes that mods add to a big pack like this one.[1]
The mod has config options for things like blacklisted biomes and maximum search distance.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show which blacklist or search distance values All the Mods 10 4.5 uses, or whether the pack changed the mod's defaults.
Who it's for
The compass is for anyone who needs a particular biome, whether that's for a mod resource, a mob or just a nice build spot. It only handles biomes. If you're looking for structures, the companion item Explorer's Compass covers those.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack points you toward it in the tips_and_tricks quest chapter. Quest a quest in "?" completes when you get either Nature's Compass or Explorer's Compass, so it's a handy early exploration tool.[3]
How do you get started with Nature's Compass?
3 parts
Tired of wandering for hours looking for one specific biome? Nature's Compass is the fix. It's a single item that searches for any biome's location anywhere in the world and shows you information about it. It works with every registered biome, vanilla and modded, which makes it really handy in a big pack like this one.[1]
Step 1: Craft the compass
The whole mod lives in this one item, so crafting it is your first and only real goal. In All the Mods 10 it's a shaped crafting recipe. Check the recipe below for the exact in-pack version, and don't rely on older recipe images you might find online.[4]

Step 2: Find your first biome
- Hold the compass and right-click. This opens the biome selection screen.[1]
- Search for the biome you want, or open its information screen to learn more about it before you commit.[1]
- Once a biome is found, its information appears on your HUD, so you can just follow the compass.[1]
- When you're done, or you want to look for something else, shift-right-click to reset the compass.[1]
Quest tie-in
The pack's tips_and_tricks quest chapter has a quest, a quest in "?", that completes when you have either Nature's Compass or Explorer's Compass. Crafting your Nature's Compass ticks it off right away.[3]
Some of the compass's behaviour, such as which biomes are blacklisted and the maximum search distance, can be adjusted in the mod's config file.[1]
Unverified The maximum search distance and any biome blacklist that All the Mods 10 4.5 uses could not be confirmed, so very distant or excluded biomes may not show up in a search.
How does Nature's Compass work?
4 parts
Nature's Compass is a very simple mod: there are no machines, multiblocks, power or pipes. Everything revolves around one handheld item, Nature's Compass, which finds where a biome is anywhere in the world and shows you information about it.[1]
Getting the compass
The compass comes from a shaped crafting recipe from the mod itself. The block below shows the exact recipe this pack uses.[4]

Using the compass
- Right-click with the compass to open the biome selection screen. From there you can search for a biome or view information about it.[1]
- Shift-right-click to reset the compass. This clears whatever biome it was tracking.[1]
- When the compass isn't pointing at a biome, it points at the world spawn, so a fresh or reset compass works as a way back to spawn.[1]
- It supports all registered biomes, both vanilla and modded, so you can find biomes added by other mods in the pack too.[1]
Once a biome is found, its information appears on your HUD. In this pack General.displayCoordinates is turned on, so you get the precise coordinates and distance on screen. You don't have to follow the needle by eye.[1][5]
How the search works
Behind the scenes, the compass searches by taking samples of the world around you until it finds your biome or hits its limits. Three config options control this, and they all scale with the size of the biome you're searching for.[5]
- General.maxSamples is the maximum number of samples taken in one search. This pack sets it to 50,000 (allowed range 0 to 1,000,000).[5]
- General.radiusModifier sets how far the search can reach: the biome size multiplied by this value gives the maximum search radius. This pack uses 2,500. Raising it improves search accuracy but can make searches more resource intensive.[5]
- General.sampleSpaceModifier sets how far apart the samples are: the biome size multiplied by this value gives the sample spacing. This pack uses 16. Lowering it improves accuracy but makes searches more resource intensive.[5]
What's allowed in this pack
General.biomeBlacklist is empty in this pack, so no biomes are blocked from searching. The option accepts biome resource locations, and the wildcards * and ? let one entry match several biomes.[5]
Unverified The sources don't show the mod's default values for the search settings, so it's unconfirmed whether this pack changed any of them from the defaults.
How do you progress through Nature's Compass?
2 parts
Nature's Compass has a simple progression path in this pack. There is no tier ladder to climb. The pack's recipe dump lists just one recipe that makes anything from this mod: the Nature's Compass itself. Once you've crafted it, you have everything the mod offers.[4]
Crafting the compass
The compass is a shaped crafting recipe built around a vanilla Compass, so you'll need a regular compass first. The pack uses the mod's own recipe here, not a custom pack version.[4]

The quest
The compass also shows up in the pack's questbook, in the tips and tricks chapter, as quest a quest in "?". To complete it, you need either a Nature's Compass or an Explorer's Compass. Either one counts, so if you've already made the other compass, you're covered.[3]
How does Nature's Compass work with other mods?
3 parts
Nature's Compass doesn't tie into other mods through crafting in this pack. It stands on its own as an exploration tool, and its main link to the rest of the pack is through the quest book and the biomes other mods add.[1][3]
Quest book
The compass appears in the tips and tricks chapter of the pack's quests. a quest in "?" accepts either Nature's Compass or Explorer's Compass. Either compass completes the task, so if you've already made one of them, you're covered.[3]
Pairing it with Explorer's Compass
The two compasses in that quest do different jobs. Nature's Compass finds biomes, while Explorer's Compass is the one to use for structures. Carrying both covers most of your exploring: one takes you to the right kind of terrain, the other takes you to the builds inside it.[1][3]
Modded biomes
This is where the compass really helps in a big pack. It supports all registered biomes, both vanilla and modded, so biomes added by other world generation mods show up in its search list. Right-click to open the biome selection screen, search for the biome you want, and the compass will point you to it. You can also view information about a biome from that same screen.[1]
Unverified The sources don't say whether the pack changes any of the compass's config values, such as blacklisted biomes or the maximum search distance. They also don't show which specific modded biomes are available in this pack.
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Nature's Compass?
Nature's Compass appears in just one quest in this pack, and it lives in the tips_and_tricks chapter. That quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title of its own.[3]
To complete it, you need a Nature's Compass or an Explorer's Compass. Either one counts, so if you've already got the other compass, you're covered.[3]
Unverified The quest's rewards, its description text, and whether other quests have to be finished first are not confirmed.
Which Nature's Compass config options matter?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Nature's Compass keeps its settings in one file, and the pack's values for it are below. Everything here lives under the General section. The mod's page confirms that things like blacklisted biomes and the maximum search distance can be adjusted in the config file.[1][6]
What the pack sets
- General.allowTeleport is false in this pack. When enabled, it lets a player teleport to a located biome while in creative mode, opped, or in cheat mode. Here, that option is switched off.[6]
- General.biomeBlacklist is an empty list in this pack, so no biomes are blocked from the compass's search. Entries are resource locations, and the wildcard * (any number of characters) and ? (one character) are supported.[6]
- General.displayCoordinates is true in this pack. You see the precise coordinates and distance of a located structure on the HUD, instead of relying only on which way the compass points.[6]
- General.maxSamples is 50,000 in this pack. It is the maximum number of samples taken when searching for a biome, with an allowed range of 0 to 1,000,000.[6]
- General.radiusModifier is 2,500 in this pack, with an allowed range of 0 to 1,000,000. The biome size multiplied by this value gives the maximum search radius, and raising it increases search accuracy.[6]
- General.sampleSpaceModifier is 16 in this pack, with an allowed range of 0 to 1,000,000. The biome size multiplied by this value gives the sample space. Lowering it increases search accuracy but makes the search more resource intensive.[6]
Tuning tips
If you want to hide certain biomes from the compass, add them to the blacklist. A pattern like minecraft:*ocean* would cover every matching ocean biome in one entry.[6]
Unverified The sources only show this pack's values, not the mod's defaults, so I can't say which of these options the pack changed from the mod default.
What changed in Nature's Compass between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 4.5 ships Nature's Compass for NeoForge 1.21.1. The pack's mod list says it has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 0.32 or earlier.[2]
Mod changelog notes
- 1.21-3.0.2-neoforge: fixed an uncraftable Nature's Compass recipe.[7]
- 1.21.1-3.0.2-neoforge: updated to NeoForge 1.21.1. This is the build the pack's mod list names for version 4.5.[2][8]
I have no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't tell you whether any pack release changed its behavior or recipes.[2]
