Multi-Piston in All the Mods 10

The Multi-Piston is a machine for moving blocks. The pack's quest calls it confusing but helpful, and it lets you shift runs of blocks from one side of the machine to another without placing or breaking them by hand. This pack includes version 1.2.58-1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.^[1][2]

In the quest book, it has its own quest, "Multi-Piston" quest, in the Tips and Tricks chapter. The task is to get the Multi-Piston item.^[2]

How it works

Right-click the piston to open its GUI. There you set the Sides, the Spacing and the Speed. It also needs a redstone signal to actually work.^[2]

• Sides: each side has a color. Yellow is Up, Orange is Down, Blue is North, Green is East, Red is South and Purple is West. You set the colors for the input and the output, which are the sides the blocks move from and to.^[2]
• Spacing: how many blocks get moved from that side. At 3 it moves 3 blocks from one side to the other, and at 30 it moves 30.^[2]
• Speed: how quickly the blocks are moved.^[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star path uses the Multi-Piston. The quest source only places it in the Tips and Tricks chapter, so check the quest book itself for any ATM Star requirements.

The item to know about here is the Multi-Piston. It's a little machine that moves blocks for you. The pack's quest "Multi-Piston" quest in the Tips and Tricks chapter calls it confusing but helpful, so let's go through it step by step.^[2]

Step 1: Craft the Multi-Piston

The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's default. Use the one below.^[3]

This is the pack's changed recipe for the Multi-Piston.

Step 2: Set it up

1. Place the Multi-Piston and right click it to open its GUI. That's where you set the Sides, Spacing and Speed.^[2]
2. Set the Colors of the Input and Output. These tell the machine which side the blocks move from and which side they move to.^[2]
3. Set the Spacing, which is how many blocks get moved from that side. At 3 it moves 3 blocks from one side to the other, and at 30 it moves 30 blocks.^[2]
4. Set the Speed, which is just how quickly the blocks are moved.^[2]
5. Give it a Redstone signal. Without one, it won't actually work.^[2]

Reading the side colors

Each side in the GUI is a color, and you need these to pick your Input and Output correctly:^[2]

• Yellow is Up.^[2]
• Orange is Down.^[2]
• Blue is North.^[2]
• Green is East.^[2]
• Red is South.^[2]
• Purple is West.^[2]

The one thing the sources here confirm about this mod is how you get its block, Multi-Piston. It uses a shaped crafting recipe, and the pack has changed that recipe from the mod's default.^[3]

This is the pack's version of the recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default.

Unverified How the Multi-Piston actually behaves is unverified: how many blocks it can move, how it is powered or triggered, whether it forms any multiblock structure, and how it fits with item, fluid or power automation. The pack has no config files for this mod, and the sources here include no guidebook, documentation or tooltip text, so I'm not going to guess.

Good news: there's no ladder of tiers to climb here. In this pack the Multi-Piston is one machine, the Multi-Piston, with a single recipe and a single quest. You craft it once, then learn how to configure it.^[2][3]

Where it fits in the quests

The quest "Multi-Piston" quest sits in the Tips and Tricks chapter, and its task is to obtain the Multi-Piston. The quest calls it a confusing but helpful little machine made for moving blocks.^[2]

Crafting it

The pack changes this recipe, so go by the one below and not by the mod's defaults.^[3]

Setting it up

Once it's placed, right-click it to open its GUI. There you set the Sides, the Spacing and the Speed.^[2]

1. Set the Input and Output sides, which are the sides blocks move from and to. Each side has a color: Yellow is Up, Orange is Down, Blue is North, Green is East, Red is South, and Purple is West.^[2]
2. Set the Spacing, which is how many blocks get moved from that side. At 3 it moves 3 blocks from one side to the other, and at 30 it moves 30.^[2]
3. Set the Speed, which is how quickly the blocks are moved.^[2]
4. Give it a redstone signal. It needs one to actually work.^[2]

The Multi-Piston shows up in one quest in the pack, in the "Tips and Tricks" chapter. The quest is "Multi-Piston" quest, and its task is simply to get a Multi-Piston.^[2]

The quest doubles as a short tutorial. It calls the Multi-Piston a confusing but helpful little machine for moving blocks. You right click it to open its GUI, where you set the Sides, Spacing and Speed.^[2]

What the quest explains

Each side of the piston has a color, and you use those colors to choose which side blocks are taken from (the input) and which side they go to (the output). The quest gives this color key:^[2]

• Yellow is Up and Orange is Down.^[2]
• Blue is North and Red is South.^[2]
• Green is East and Purple is West.^[2]

Spacing is how many blocks get moved from that side. Set it to 3 and it moves 3 blocks from one side to the other. Set it to 30 and it moves 30. Speed is just how quickly the blocks move.^[2]

Because this is the only quest the sources show for the mod, there is no quest order to follow. You can pick it up whenever you reach "Tips and Tricks". The sources don't list any other chapters that involve the Multi-Piston.^[2]

Multi-Piston has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier, and All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 1.2.58-1.21.1. The pack changelogs I have only record version bumps, so this is a timeline of which version shipped when.^[1]

• All the Mods 10 3.0: updated from 1.2.51-1.21.1-snapshot to 1.2.53-1.21.1-snapshot.^[4]
• All the Mods 10 4.0: updated from 1.2.53-1.21.1-snapshot to 1.2.57-1.21.1, which moved the pack off a snapshot build.^[5]
• All the Mods 10 4.13: updated from 1.2.57-1.21.1 to 1.2.58-1.21.1. This is still the version in 8.1.^[1][6]

Unverified What actually changed inside the mod between these versions (new features, fixes or balance changes) can't be confirmed. No mod changelogs are stored for the jars the pack shipped, so check the mod's own release notes before assuming any behavior differs between versions.
