What is Macaw's Lights and Lamps?
3 parts
Macaw's Lights and Lamps is a decoration mod that adds vanilla-styled light sources so you can go beyond torches and lanterns. It's all about making your builds brighter and better looking.[1]
The list is long: tiki torches, street lamp posts, ceiling lights, lamps, paper lamps, wall lanterns, new torches, light slabs, lanterns, ceiling fan lights, candle holders and chandeliers.[1]
Neat features
- Lamps, street lights, tiki torches and ceiling lights can be as tall as you want, from a 1 block tall lamp up to a 54 block tall one.[1]
- Everything can be turned on and off with a right click, so you can control the lighting in your base.[1]
Who it's for
This one is for builders and decorators. If you want lighting that fits a vanilla-style build, or you need lamp posts and chandeliers for a big base, it's a good pick.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships version 1.1.5 of the mod, built for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]
Unverified The sources I have don't show any quests, progression gating or ATM Star path placement for this mod, so treat it as a plain decoration mod and don't expect it to unlock anything.
How do you get started with Macaw's Lights and Lamps?
5 parts
Macaw's Lights and Lamps adds new light sources: tiki torches, lanterns, lamps, paper lamps, ceiling lights, chandeliers and more. Here is the order I'd go in, with the real in-pack recipes shown below each step.[1]
Step one: torches for early lighting
Start with the Framed Torch. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

Next, make a tiki torch, like the Bamboo Tiki Torch shown below. There are versions for several woods, such as Acacia Tiki Torch and Cherry Tiki Torch. Tiki torches can be built taller by placing another one on top of the first.[3][4]

Step two: lanterns and garden lights
Once you have some spare materials, make lanterns. The pack changed the recipe for the Bell Lantern, and the same goes for the chain, covered, cross and festive lanterns. You can turn a lantern into a wall version by combining it with a wooden fence, for example Bell Wall Lantern.[3]

Next up: street lamps and tall lamps
Lamps, street lamps, tiki torches and ceiling lights can be made as tall as you want. The mod page gives a 1 block tall lamp and a 54 block tall lamp as examples of that range. The Street Lamp Post uses the mod's own recipe.[1][3]

Finally: colored lamps and decoration
The lamps and ceiling lights come in several colors and use the mod's own recipes. An example is the Blue Lamp.[3]

Colored paper lamps are made from a White Paper Lamp plus a dye, like this Black Paper Lamp.[3]
When you want a fancier look, try the ceiling fan lights, candle holders and chandeliers. The pack changed all of these recipes, including the Acacia Ceiling Fan Light, Copper Chandelier and Golden Chandelier.[3]

Handy tricks
How does Macaw's Lights and Lamps work?
5 parts
Good news: there's no machinery to learn here. The sources describe Macaw's Lights and Lamps as a very simple mod that adds new light sources, so the "mechanics" are really about how you place, stack, switch and recolor lights. Nothing in the sources describes power, fluid or item handling, multiblocks or automation for this mod.[1]
Switching lights on and off
Everything in the mod can be turned off and on with a right click. That covers the whole range: tiki torches, street lamp posts, ceiling lights, lamps, paper lamps, wall lanterns, lanterns, ceiling fan lights, candle holders and chandeliers.[1]
Building tall
Lamps, street lights, tiki torches and ceiling lights can be made as tall as you want. The project page gives examples of a 1 block tall lamp or a 54 block tall one. To extend one, place another on top of it. The in-game tooltips say exactly this for stackable pieces and for tiki torches.[1][4]
So for a Street Lamp Post you just keep placing more on top of the first. The same goes for the tiki torches, for example Bamboo Tiki Torch and Birch Tiki Torch.[1][3][4]
Recoloring with dye
Some pieces carry a tooltip telling you to right-click with any dye to recolor them. Check the tooltip on the piece you're holding to see if it has it.[4]
Paper lamps use crafting instead. The White Paper Lamp is the base for the other colors, such as the Black Paper Lamp and the Blue Paper Lamp. The recipes are shown below.[3]

Wall variants
The wall lanterns are made from the matching lantern plus any wooden fence, as a shapeless recipe. That applies to both the Bell Wall Lantern and the Chain Wall Lantern.[3]

What the pack changed
This pack has altered a number of this mod's recipes, so don't rely on the mod's own defaults. The changed ones include the Bell Lantern, the Chain Lantern, the Covered Garden Light, the ceiling fan lights such as the Acacia Ceiling Fan Light, and the copper pieces: Copper Chain, the candle holders and the chandeliers.[3]

How do you progress through Macaw's Lights and Lamps?
5 parts
Macaw's Lights and Lamps is a decoration mod, so there is no machine chain or power curve to climb here. Your progression comes from the materials you can afford, and the pack has reshaped several recipes to build that ladder. Here is how the tiers break down, from your first lights to the metal chandeliers.[3]
Unverified The quest sources here show no quests that involve this mod, so whether anything is unlocked or gated by a quest is not shown. The tiers below follow the in-pack recipes only.
First lights
The wooden tiki torches, such as Acacia Tiki Torch and Bamboo Tiki Torch, use the mod's own recipes, and Glowstone Slab is also an unchanged mod recipe. This is where you start.[3]

The pack did change the framed torches. Framed Torch and Iron Framed Torch both use pack-specific recipes that include iron nuggets, so you want a little iron before you build them.[3]
Iron nugget lanterns
The pack changed the recipes for Bell Lantern, Chain Lantern, Covered Lantern, Cross Lantern and Festive Lantern. Each one is built around a torch and iron nuggets, so they are cheap once you have some iron.[3]

Iron ingots and glowstone
Garden Light and Covered Garden Light step up to iron ingots and glowstone dust, and the pack changed both recipes. The wooden ceiling fan lights work the same way: Acacia Ceiling Fan Light, Birch Ceiling Fan Light, Cherry Ceiling Fan Light, Crimson Ceiling Fan Light, Dark Oak Ceiling Fan Light and Jungle Ceiling Fan Light each use a slab of their wood plus glowstone dust and iron, and all are pack-changed.[3]

Candle holders and chandeliers
The candle holders and chandeliers come in iron, copper and gold, and the pack changed their recipes. That covers the single, double, triple, low and wall candle holders, plus the chandelier and small chandelier. Iron examples are Iron Chandelier and Iron Candle Holder. Copper has Copper Chandelier, and gold has Golden Chandelier.[3]

Copper Chain and Golden Chain are pack-changed too, and each is made from just its own metal's ingots.[3]
Colour and street lighting
The colour lamps and ceiling lights, such as Blue Lamp and Blue Ceiling Light, keep the mod's own recipes. Each combines coloured wool, a redstone lamp and a wooden fence. The paper lamps, such as Blue Paper Lamp, are shapeless: you take a White Paper Lamp and add a dye. The street lamps, Street Lamp Post and Double Street Lamp Post, are unchanged mod recipes built from a vanilla lantern.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Macaw's Lights and Lamps?
4 parts
In this pack the mod shows up in one quest chapter, Building Tips. It has a single quest of its own there, "Macaw's Lights and Lamps" quest, and it also counts toward a later Macaw quest.[5]
How you get to it
- Start with "Building Tips!" quest, the opening quest of the chapter.[5]
- Next comes "Decoration!" quest, which introduces the many mods that add decoration.[5]
- After that is a quest in "Building Tips", the general lighting quest. It accepts any one of a long list of light sources, such as Torch, Lantern or Copper Bulb.[5]
- Finishing that unlocks "Macaw's Lights and Lamps" quest, the Macaw's Lights and Lamps quest.[5]
The Macaw's Lights and Lamps quest
The quest has one item task. The quest data I have doesn't say which item it wants, so check the quest book in game. Its text says Macaw wanted more than natural light from the Macaw windows, so the mod adds all sorts of light sources, from lamps to lanterns to chandeliers.[5]
Other light quests next to it
The same lighting quest also leads to several other light-source quests, so you can pick your order. These are "Chipped Lights" quest, "Ars Nouveau Lights" quest, "Wall Lamps" quest, "Simply Light" quest, "Torchmaster" quest and "XyCraft Lights" quest.[5]
The Macaw wrap-up
Lights and Lamps does not sit under the Macaw's Mods quest. That one, "Macaw's Mods" quest, comes after "Decor Mods!" quest and leads to the doors, fences and walls, roofs, paths and pavings, and trapdoors quests.[5]
Your lamps still count toward "Completed Macaw" quest. It is a checkmark quest that needs nine Macaw quests done first: "Macaw's Doors" quest, "Macaw's Fences and Walls" quest, "Macaw's Roofs" quest, "Macaw's Paths and Pavings" quest, "Macaw's Trapdoors" quest, "Macaw's Holidays" quest, "Macaw's Lights and Lamps" quest, "Macaw's Furniture" quest and "Macaw's Windows" quest.[5]
What changed in Macaw's Lights and Lamps between versions?
1 part
Macaw's Lights and Lamps has been in All the Mods 10 since version 2.25 or earlier, and the pack ships version 1.1.5 of the mod in 8.1. The jar is mcw-lights-1.1.5-mc1.21.1neoforge.jar, so it is the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]
Pack updates
- All the Mods 10 3.0: updated from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2.[6]
- All the Mods 10 5.5: updated from 1.1.2 to 1.1.5.[7]
The pack changelogs only record these version bumps. They don't say what changed inside the mod, and I don't have stored changelogs for the shipped jars.[6][7]
Unverified What changed inside the mod between 1.1.1, 1.1.2 and 1.1.5 (new blocks, fixes or recipe changes) can't be confirmed from the available sources. Check the mod's own changelog if you need details.
