Formations Overworld in All the Mods 10

Formations Overworld is a structure mod. It adds a bunch of new structures to the various overworld biomes, so you'll run into new things to find while exploring the overworld.^[1]

This pack includes Formations Overworld version 1.0.5+c. It has been part of the pack since version 1.7 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.^[2]

The mod's project page shows example images of its structures in a gallery. It doesn't list individual structures, so this guide doesn't name any.^[1]

Formations Overworld is a structure mod. It adds a bunch of new structures to the various biomes of the overworld, so the first step is simply to get out and explore the overworld and see what you find.^[1]

Unverified The sources here do not show which structures exist, which biomes they appear in, or what they contain. They also show no quests or recipes for this mod in the pack, so this section has no recipe blocks and no quest links. Check the structures in your own world.

Formations Overworld adds new structures to the overworld biomes. Its "mechanics" are therefore about how and where those structures generate, and that is what this section covers.^[1]

How a structure is defined

Most structures use the type "formations:simple". Each one points at a template, is placed on the surface and generates in the surface_structures step. Its biomes come from a tag in the mod's own namespace, so each structure has its own list of allowed biomes. Terrain adaptation is set to beard_thin for most of them, and spawn overrides are empty.^{[3][4][5][6][7]}

There are two exceptions. The ice castle uses the same simple type but its terrain adaptation is set to none. The fountain is a "formations:pieced" structure: it starts from a pool of fountain pieces, with a max depth of 2 and a max distance from center of 116.^[8][9]

Structure sets and spacing

Structures are grouped into sets. Each set uses random_spread placement with its own spacing and separation, which sets how often that group shows up.^[10][11][12]

• Uncommon: spacing 15, separation 8. This is the biggest group, with every structure at weight 1. It covers the bamboo hut, campsite, cobble hole, copper spire, desert houses, farmland field, fountain, graveyard, hobbit hole, ice castle, ice spire, igloo, log shelter, log spikes, Mesoamerican temple, meteor, mushroom hut, offering, small house, small statue, small temple, stone ore spikes, stone tower, tiny house, tower remnant, wagon and well.^[12]
• Rare: spacing 50, separation 40. This holds only the large temple and the witch tower, each at weight 1. It has the widest spacing of the sets here, so these two are spread furthest apart.^[11]
• Rafts: spacing 25, separation 15. This set holds only the raft, and the raft is limited to ocean biomes.^[10][13]

Where each structure can appear

Biome tags decide where a structure can generate. Some are very specific. The bamboo hut only generates in bamboo jungle, the mushroom hut only in mushroom fields, and desert houses only in desert.^[14][15][16]

Cold-biome structures follow the same pattern. The igloo is limited to snowy plains and snowy taiga. The ice castle is limited to frozen river, frozen ocean and deep frozen ocean. The ice spire uses frozen ocean, deep frozen ocean and ice spikes.^[17][18][19]

Others are spread across many biomes. The meteor can appear in forest, badlands, jungle and taiga biome groups. The small house and tiny house both cover forest, taiga, jungle and savanna groups, plus plains and snowy plains.^[20][21][22]

The cobble hole is limited to old growth spruce taiga and old growth pine taiga. The witch tower generates in forest, jungle and taiga biome groups, and the large temple in jungle and savanna groups plus desert.^[23][24][25]

Unverified The pack has no config files for this mod, so any tuning of structure generation is not shown in the sources here. The full contents of several structure files, meaning what is actually built or stored inside those structures, are also not shown.

Formations Overworld adds structures to the world, and the loot tables I can see for them hold only vanilla items. So think of this mod as a source of early-game supplies you stumble on while exploring, not a tier ladder you climb.^{[26][27][28][29]}

What the structure chests hold

• Bamboo hut: 3 to 5 rolls. The table includes Bamboo, Melon Slice, Melon Seeds and Glistering Melon Slice. There's also a chance of a Fishing Rod enchanted as if at level 10.^[26]
• Campsite: food and basics. The main pool includes Cooked Beef, Cooked Chicken, Stick, Leather, Feather, Sweet Berries, Egg and Torch.^[27]
• Raft: 5 to 10 rolls, each drawn from the vanilla fishing fish, junk and treasure tables. Fish has weight 10, junk 5 and treasure 3, so you'll mostly pull fish.^[28]
• Witch tower arrow trap: several rolls, each giving a small stack of Arrow.^[29]

Campsite bonus roll

The campsite has a second pool that rolls at most once, so you won't always get something from it. When it does, it picks from a Compass, Spyglass, Brush, Name Tag, Map, Saddle or Goat Horn.^[27]

Unverified The mod has more loot tables, including graveyards, fountains, hobbit holes, desert houses and a cobble hole, but the sources here do not show their contents. The sources here also show no quests or recipes for this mod, so no quest chapter or crafting path is described.

All the Mods 10 8.2 ships Formations Overworld at version 1.0.5+c. The mod was first included in All the Mods 10 1.7 or earlier.^[2]

Pack updates

• All the Mods 10 4.5: updated from 1.0.4 to 1.0.5, the release that added new structures.^[30][31]
• All the Mods 10 7.2: updated from 1.0.5 to 1.0.5+a.^[32]
• All the Mods 10 8.2: updated from 1.0.5+a to 1.0.5+c.^[33]

Recent mod changes

Version 1.0.5 is the big one for exploring. It added the cobble hole, ice castle, ice spire, igloo and mushroom hut structures, and adjusted the loot tables for all structures.^[31]

The same release made the witch tower a little less generous: valuables were reduced, and the lava trap was removed to stop mobs from setting the tower on fire.^[31]

• 1.0.5b: added icon and banner images for the new NeoForge 26.2.0.50-beta mod list.^[35]
• 1.0.5c: fixed broken loot tables caused by the missing Chain item. This is the version in 8.2.^[2][35]
