What is Additional Lights?

Additional Lights is a lighting mod, and the pack ships version 2.1.10 of it. It is the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21, and the file is additional_lights-neoforge-1.21-2.1.10.jar.[1]

It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm from the available sources which light blocks or items the mod adds, how they are crafted, or what config options exist. This page doesn't describe them. The sources also show no quests involving the mod and no place for it on the ATM Star path, so it doesn't appear to be a progression gate. Treat it as an optional decoration and lighting mod until more details are confirmed.

How do you get started with Additional Lights?

4 parts

Additional Lights adds decorative light sources in many block styles: AlTorches, Lamps and Fire Pits. Everything here follows the crafting recipes in the pack, so you can check each one in the recipe blocks below.[2]

Start with an AlTorch

The AlTorch is the easiest place to begin. There is one for each style, for example Oak AlTorch, Stone AlTorch and Glass AlTorch. Pick the style that matches the build you are working on and craft it.[2]

This is a plain mod recipe, and the other AlTorch styles follow the same pattern.

Move on to Lamps

Lamps come in matching styles, such as Oak Lamp and Glass Lamp. They are crafted with glowstone, so you will need some on hand before you make one.[2]

The Lamp recipes use the same layout across the planks, stone, brick and wool styles.

Fire Pits

Fire Pits are the more involved set. The mod has separate fire items with their own recipes: Fire For Fire Pit, Fire For Fire Pit L and Fire For Standing Torch L. The large pits, such as CobbleStone Fire Pit - L, have their own recipes per style.[2]

Pack changes to know about

The pack changed the recipes for the Diamond, Gold and Iron styles. Each one now accepts any storage block of that material, so you are not tied to one specific block. This applies to items like Iron Lamp, Gold AlTorch and Diamond Fire Pit - L.[2]

How does Additional Lights work?

2 parts

Here's the honest picture for Additional Lights: the only thing the pack data confirms is how its blocks are crafted. There is no guidebook, config file or tooltip text for this mod in the sources, so I can't tell you anything about machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation. I won't guess at any of that.[2]

What the pack data shows

The mod's items fall into a lamp family, such as Stone Lamp, and a torch family, such as CobbleStone AlTorch. Each comes in variants named after a base material, including planks, stone types, glass, wool and metal blocks. Every recipe shown in the pack data is a shaped crafting recipe, so you make them at a normal crafting table.[2]

Where the pack changes things

The pack changes the recipes for the metal and diamond variants. Diamond Lamp, Gold Lamp and Iron Lamp are all marked as changed by the pack. So are Diamond AlTorch and Gold AlTorch. In each case the block ingredient is a common storage-block tag for that material, so any mod's block of that material works, not one specific item.[2]

Tip: Because the metal and diamond variants take any block from the matching common storage-block tag, you can use storage blocks from other mods in the pack for them. The other variants shown use specific vanilla blocks.[2]

Unverified Whether these lights have any special behavior beyond giving off light, such as redstone interaction, placement rules, light levels or settings, could not be confirmed. The mod has no config files, in-jar guidebook or lang descriptions in the pack, so the sources here do not show any of it. Likewise, nothing confirms any power, fluid, item-handling or automation features.

How do you progress through Additional Lights?

3 parts

Additional Lights has no machines, energy or multi-step processing in the recipes here. It is a set of decorative light sources, and the "tier" of each one is the base block it is crafted from. As you reach more materials in your run, you unlock more variants.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no quest for this mod, so any quest-driven progression for it is not confirmed. Check the pack's quest book in game if you want to know whether a chapter covers it.

Lamps, AlTorches and fire pits

Here is one lamp recipe so you can see the pattern. The other wood, stone and wool lamps use the same shape with a different base block.[2]

Variants by base material

This grouping is my own way of organising the variants by the block you need to get. The pack does not enforce it.[2]

Iron, gold and diamond: changed by the pack

The iron, gold and diamond variants are the ones the pack has changed. Their lamp, AlTorch and fire pit recipes (small and large) are flagged as changed by the pack, while the other variants use the mod's own recipes. They accept any storage block of the matching material. Use the in-pack recipes below.[2]

What changed in Additional Lights between versions?

The sources for Additional Lights are short, so this section is too. Here is what the pack's changelog and mod list confirm.[1][3]

  • Additional Lights was first included in All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier. The mod list does not pin down the exact first release.[1]
  • All the Mods 10 4.6 updated Additional Lights from 2.1.9 to 2.1.10.[3]
  • All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Additional Lights 2.1.10, using the file additional_lights-neoforge-1.21-2.1.10.jar.[1]

Unverified No changelogs are stored for the shipped jars, so what changed inside the mod between 2.1.9 and 2.1.10 is not shown in the sources here.
