What is Transfer Labels?

2 parts

Transfer Labels lets you move items and fluids between blocks that sit right next to each other, with no pipes in between. You stick a label onto a block and it handles the transfer. This pack includes version 0.1.8.[1][2]

The basics

  • Place a label on a block by sneak right clicking the block.[1]
  • Open a placed label by holding a label and right clicking it. The quest book adds that a Label Accessor works for this too.[1][3]
  • Remove a placed label by left clicking it while holding a label.[1]
  • The label GUI has filter types: regulating, exact count, mod and tag. For filters with an amount, scroll while holding Shift, Alt, Ctrl or any combination to change it.[1]
  • To speed a label up, add the same type of label in its amount or speed slots.[1][3]

Where it sits in the quest book

The quest is "Transfer Labels" quest, in the "Basic Logistics" chapter, with the subtitle "When you gotta fit a pipe between your blocks". The chapter has 41 quests, and 15 of them aren't covered here, so check the quest book for those.[3]

It has no prerequisite quest. It's one of the chapter's starting quests, alongside "Pipez" quest, "Mekanism" quest, "Laser IO" quest and "Integrated Dynamics" quest. In the chapter's order it comes right after the Laser IO quest and right before the "Logistics" quest intro quest.[3]

Unlike Pipez, Mekanism and Laser IO, no quest in the part of the chapter I can see is set to come after it. The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path, so you can treat it as an optional way to move items and fluids.[3]

How do you get started with Transfer Labels?

4 parts

Transfer Labels lets you move items and fluids between blocks that sit right next to each other, with no pipe in between. The pack's quest book covers it in the "Basic Logistics" chapter, in a quest called "Transfer Labels" ("Transfer Labels" quest). Here is what to make first and why.[1][3]

Step 1: a pair of item labels

Start with Itemstack Extract Transfer Label and Itemstack Insert Transfer Label. You need both: Extract takes from one block and Insert delivers to the other. The pack changed both recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Each craft gives you 2 labels.[4][5]

If you crafted too many of one kind, you can swap a label for its opposite with a single shapeless craft, like this one for item labels.[4]

Step 2: fluid labels

Moving fluids works the same way, with Fluidstack Extract Transfer Label and Fluidstack Insert Transfer Label. The pack changed these recipes too, and each craft also gives you 2 labels. Fluid labels can be swapped between Extract and Insert with a shapeless craft as well.[4][5]

Step 3: the Label Accessor

Next, craft the Label Accessor. It is the tool that lets you reach labels through blocks, and it can stand in for a label when you interact with or remove one. The pack changed this recipe as well, and it builds on the labels from the earlier steps.[1][3][4]

Using your labels

  1. Sneak and right click a block to place a label on it.[1][3]
  2. Hold another label or a Label Accessor and right click a placed label to open it and change its settings.[1][3]
  3. To remove a placed label, left click it while holding another label or a Label Accessor.[1][3]

Inside the label screen you can pick a filter type: regulating, exact count, mod or tag. For filters that use an amount, scroll while holding Shift, Alt, Ctrl or any combination of them to change it.[1][5]

Tip: To speed a label up, put the same type of label into its amount or speed slots.[1][3]

How does Transfer Labels work?

5 parts

Transfer Labels moves items and fluids between blocks that are right next to each other. You place a label on a block and it handles the transfer. Here is how the whole system works.[1]

The labels

The mod gives you labels for items and labels for fluids, and each comes in an extract and an insert version: Itemstack Extract Transfer Label, Itemstack Insert Transfer Label, Fluidstack Extract Transfer Label and Fluidstack Insert Transfer Label. The itemstack ones handle items and the fluidstack ones handle fluids.[1][5]

The pack changed the crafting recipes for these labels, and each craft gives you 2 labels. The item labels are crafted like this:[4]

Crafting Shaped

And the fluid labels:[4]

Made the wrong type? You can swap an insert label for its matching extract label, and the other way round, with a shapeless crafting recipe. These swap recipes come from the mod itself, not from the pack. Here are the item and fluid versions going from extract to insert:[4]

Placing, editing and removing labels

  • Place a label by sneak right-clicking on a block.[1]
  • Open a placed label by holding a label and right-clicking it.[1]
  • Remove a placed label by left-clicking it while holding a label.[1]

Reaching through blocks with the Label Accessor

The Label Accessor lets you access labels through blocks. The pack changed its recipe.[1][4]

Filtering

When you open a label's GUI you can pick a filter type. Here is what each one does, using the tooltip descriptions:[1][5]

  • Normal: transfer only if it is the same as the filter.[5]
  • Regulating: transfer to keep the defined filter amount on the destination.[1][5]
  • Exact count: transfer only if it has the same count as the defined filter.[1][5]
  • Mod: transfer only if it has the same mod id as the defined filter.[1][5]
  • Tag: transfer only if it has the same tag as the one defined in the filter.[1][5]

For the filter types that have an amount, scroll while holding Shift, Alt or Ctrl, or any combination of those keys, to change how much.[1]

Tip: Regulating is the one to reach for when you want a destination to hold a set amount, since it transfers to keep the filter amount on the destination.[5]

Acceleration

You can make a label faster by adding the same item label in its amount or speed slots.[1]

How do you progress through Transfer Labels?

3 parts

Transfer Labels is a short progression in this pack: four labels and one tool. The labels are Itemstack Extract Transfer Label, Itemstack Insert Transfer Label, Fluidstack Extract Transfer Label and Fluidstack Insert Transfer Label. The tool is the Label Accessor. So the path is: craft the labels, craft the accessor, then speed the labels up.[3][4]

In the quest book, "Transfer Labels" quest sits in the Basic Logistics chapter, which has 41 quests. It has no prerequisite listed, so it stands on its own alongside the Pipez, Mekanism and Laser IO quests. It pitches the labels as the way to fit a pipe between your blocks, and says they work for both items and fluids.[3]

Step 1: the item and fluid labels

The pack changed the recipes for all four labels, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Each craft gives you 2 labels. Item labels come in an extract and an insert version:[4]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

Fluid labels follow the same pattern, again with the pack's own recipes:[4]

Made the wrong side? You don't need to start over. Shapeless recipes swap an extract label for the matching insert label and the other way round, for both item and fluid labels.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Item labels: turns an insert label into an extract label. This is the mod's own recipe, not changed by the pack.

Fluid labels: turns an extract label into an insert label. This is the mod's own recipe, not changed by the pack.

Step 2: the Label Accessor

The Label Accessor is the tool that lets you reach labels through blocks. The pack changed its recipe too, and it is made from the labels, so craft those first.[3][4]

Step 3: using and speeding up labels

The quest book gives this rundown of how labels work:[3]

  1. Sneak and right click a block to place a label on it.[3]
  2. Hold another label or a Label Accessor and right click a placed label to interact with it.[3]
  3. Hold another label or a Label Accessor and left click a placed label to remove it.[3]
  4. Use the Label Accessor to reach labels through blocks.[3]
Tip: To make a label faster, put more labels of the same type into its amount or speed slots. That is the acceleration method the quest describes.[3]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Transfer Labels?

2 parts

Transfer Labels has a single quest in the pack, "Transfer Labels" quest, and it sits in the "Basic Logistics" chapter, which has 41 quests in total. The subtitle is "When you gotta fit a pipe between your blocks", and the quest introduces Labels for moving items and fluids.[3]

Where it sits in the chapter

The book lists no prerequisite for it, so you can pick it up without finishing anything else first. It appears alongside the other entry points of the chapter: "Logistics" quest, "Pipez" quest, "Mekanism" quest, "Laser IO" quest, "Integrated Dynamics" quest and "Guess who's back?" quest. Those other quests each lead into their own branches (Pipez, Mekanism, LaserIO and Integrated Dynamics), but nothing in the chapter is listed as coming after Transfer Labels.[3]

What the quest teaches

The quest text says Labels work for both items and fluids, and it walks you through how to use them:[3]

  • Place a Label on a block by sneak right clicking the block.[3]
  • Interact with a placed Label by holding another Label or a Label Accessor and right clicking it.[3]
  • Remove a placed Label by left clicking it while holding another Label or a Label Accessor.[3]
  • Reach into blocks through the Label Accessor.[3]
  • Accelerate Labels by adding the same type of Label in the amount or speed slots.[3]
Tip: If you want the other ways the chapter offers to move items and fluids, the Pipez, Mekanism, LaserIO and Integrated Dynamics quests are right next to this one. Transfer Labels is the one for fitting a connection between blocks.[3]

What changed in Transfer Labels between versions?

Good news: you don't have to worry about which Transfer Labels version you're on. All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Transfer Labels 0.1.8, and the mod has been in the pack since version 1.0 or earlier.[2]

The mod's own changelog has entries for 0.1.6, 0.1.7 and 0.1.8, so those are the releases to check if you want to see what changed on the way to the version you have now.[6][7][8]

Unverified The actual contents of the 0.1.6, 0.1.7 and 0.1.8 changelog entries were not available when this section was written, so what each release added or fixed is unconfirmed. The pack changelogs also have no entries for this mod.
