What is Time in a bottle?

2 parts

Time in a Bottle lets you speed up tickable blocks, such as furnaces, crops and brewing stands. You carry a bottle that slowly stores time, then spend that time by clicking a block to make it run faster. This pack ships version 6.5.4 of the NeoForge build, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[1][2]

How it works

First you need the bottle itself, then you wait for it to build up stored time. Right click a block to speed it up, or Shift right click for blocks like the furnace. Each click doubles the speed applied and lasts 30 seconds.[1]

Stored time is the cost. The first click (x2) takes 30 seconds of stored time, and the next (x4) takes another 30. After that the price doubles each step, so x8 costs 60 seconds and x16 costs 120. There is also an admin command, /tiab, that adds or removes seconds of time on a bottle.[1]

The mod's own settings live in the tiab-server.toml file in your world's serverconfig folder. The mod page lists default limits there, but the sources here do not show whether this pack changes them, so check that file in your world for the real values.[1]

Where the quest book puts it

In the quests shown to me, Time in a Bottle has no quest of its own. It is mentioned in the Just Dire Things chapter ("Just Dire Things" quest), which has 154 quests in total. The Time Wand quest (a quest in "Just Dire Things") is subtitled "Cousin of the Time in a Bottle" and comes after Blazegold, Ferricore, a Time Crystal quest and a Time Fluid Bucket quest, among others.[3]

That quest covers Time Wand, which accelerates blocks like the bottle does, up to x256 speed. It runs on FE and Time Fluid instead of stored time, so it is much easier to refill. It is blacklisted for fake players, so you can't automate it.[3]

The other 106 quests in that chapter were not available to me, so check the quest book itself for anything else it says about the bottle.[3]

How do you get started with Time in a bottle?

3 parts

Good news: getting started with Time in a Bottle is a one-item job. You craft it once, carry it around so it builds up time, then spend that time to speed up the blocks you care about. The order below gets you going fast.[1]

Step by step

  1. Craft the bottle first. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own, so go by the recipe shown below and not by older guides you may have seen.[4]
  2. Keep it with you and wait. The bottle passively collects time, and nothing else is needed to fill it.[1]
  3. Hover over the bottle to see how much it has. The tooltip shows both the stored time and the total accumulated time.[5]
  4. Right click a tickable block such as crops or a brewing stand to speed it up. Use Shift right click for blocks like the furnace. The mod's own page says each click doubles the speed applied and lasts 30 seconds.[1]

What each click costs

The mod's own page lists the stored time each click needs: x2 costs 30 seconds, x4 costs 30 seconds, x8 costs 60 seconds, x16 costs 120 seconds, x32 costs 240 seconds and x64 costs 480 seconds, and it carries on in the same pattern. So stacking clicks gets expensive quickly, and a few modest boosts are usually a better spend than one huge one.[1]

Unverified The mod's timing values (how long each use lasts, the highest speed multiplier and the maximum stored time) are set in its server config file, tiab-server.toml. The sources here do not include that file for this pack, so check it in your world before relying on the numbers above.

Tip: Not every block can be sped up. The mod has a list of blacklisted blocks, which you can browse in EMI under the TIAB Blacklisted Blocks category.[5]

Good to know early

If you want to test things without waiting, the mod has one command that adds or removes time from a bottle: /tiab with addTime or removeTime and a number of seconds.[1]

Later on, the quest book has a cousin of the bottle in the Just Dire Things chapter: the Time Wand. It accelerates blocks like the bottle, up to x256 speed, but runs on FE and Time Fluid instead of stored time, so it is much easier to refill. It is blacklisted for fake players, so you can't automate it. Its quest comes after several others in that chapter, including Blazegold and Ferricore, so see a quest in "Just Dire Things" for the details.[3]

How does Time in a bottle work?

6 parts

Time in a bottle is built around one item: Time in a Bottle. It stores time while you play, and you spend that time to speed up the ticking of blocks like furnaces, crops and brewing stands. This section covers how storing and spending that time works.[1]

Storing time

The bottle collects time passively, so you just carry it and wait for the stored time to go up. Hover over it and the tooltip shows two readouts: the stored time, which is what you can spend, and the total accumulated time. Both are displayed as colon-separated values.[1][5]

Spending time on a block

  1. Get a Time in a Bottle and let it collect some time.[1]
  2. Right click a tickable block with the bottle. For blocks like the furnace, use Shift right click instead.[1]
  3. The block is now sped up. Each click doubles the speed applied, and the boost lasts 30 seconds.[1]

The mod's project page names furnaces, crops and brewing stands as examples of blocks you can speed up.[1]

What each click costs

Every click uses up stored time, and the price climbs as you stack multipliers. The project page gives these amounts:[1]

  • x2 costs 30 seconds of stored time.[1]
  • x4 costs 30 seconds.[1]
  • x8 costs 60 seconds.[1]
  • x16 costs 120 seconds.[1]
  • x32 costs 240 seconds.[1]
  • x64 costs 480 seconds, and the page continues the same pattern beyond that.[1]

The EMI recipe viewer also has a category called "TIAB Blacklisted Blocks" for this mod.[5]

Crafting the bottle

The pack changed the crafting recipe for the bottle, so don't rely on the mod's default. This is the recipe you use here:[4]

Admin command

The mod has one command for adding or removing time from a bottle: /tiab <addTime/removeTime> <seconds>. The project page describes it as an easy to use admin command.[1]

Configuration

The project page says the mod's config is a server config at <world folder>/serverconfig/tiab-server.toml. Its sample file shows these mod defaults: max_stored_time is 622,080,000 ticks, ticks_const is 20, each_use_duration is 30 seconds, and max_rate_multi is 8, which the file describes as a maximum speed of 2^8 = 256 times faster.[1]

Unverified Whether this pack keeps those default config values is not shown in the sources here. No config file for this mod is included in the pack data, so check tiab-server.toml in your own world's serverconfig folder for the real limits.

How do you progress through Time in a bottle?

2 parts

This one is short. The sources I have show no tier ladder for Time in a Bottle. What they do show is one recipe the pack changed, plus a related quest in the Just Dire Things chapter that points back at the bottle.[3][4]

Crafting it in this pack

The pack changes the recipe for the bottle, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's default. This is the exact in-pack version:[4]

The Just Dire Things chapter has no quest for the bottle itself. The bottle only comes up in the a quest in "Just Dire Things" quest, which calls the wand a cousin of the bottle. That wand can accelerate blocks, similarly to the bottle, up to x256 speed. It runs on FE and Time Fluid instead of stored time, so refilling it is much easier. It is also blacklisted for fake players, so you can't automate it.[3]

Here is the order the quest book puts around that wand:[3]

  1. "Ferricore" quest and "Blazegold" quest come first. Both are prerequisites of the Time Wand quest, and they unlock from the first two goo tiers.[3]
  2. a quest in "Just Dire Things" is the fourth and final goo tier, and it unlocks a quest in "Just Dire Things" among other crafts.[3]
  3. a quest in "Just Dire Things" follows the Time Crystal and Polymorphic Fluid quests. Time Fluid is made by dropping a Time Crystal into Polymorphic Fluid.[3]
  4. a quest in "Just Dire Things" comes after the Time Crystal, Time Fluid, Ferricore and Blazegold quests.[3]
Tip: Time Crystals are the slow part. They grow on Budding Time Crystal Blocks, which must collect time from the Overworld, the Nether and the End before they can grow clusters. You can't break them or use silk touch, so move them with a Swapper, Cardboard Box or Cut Paste Gadget.[3]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Time in a bottle?

1 part

In the quest book, the part that connects to Time in a Bottle is the "Just Dire Things" chapter, which has 154 quests. The link is a quest in "Just Dire Things", the Time Wand quest, subtitled "Cousin of the Time in a Bottle".[3]

The quest asks you to obtain the Time Wand. Its text says the wand can accelerate blocks, similarly to Time in a Bottle, up to x256 speed. The quest says the difference is the fuel: the wand uses FE and Time Fluid rather than stored time, which it describes as considerably easier to refill.[3]

Watch out: The Time Wand is blacklisted for fake players, so you can't automate it with a machine that uses one.[3]

The order to follow

In the quest book, the Time Wand quest is not at the start of the chapter. It is listed after five quests: an untitled quest, Time Crystal, Blazegold, Ferricore and Time Fluid Bucket. Here is one order that satisfies all the quest links leading up to it:[3]

  1. "Just Dire Things" quest is the chapter's intro quest, and the goo quests are listed after it.[3]
  2. a quest in "Just Dire Things" asks for the first tier of goo. It is listed after the intro quest, and its text says it unlocks Ferricore and Primal Coal crafts.[3]
  3. "Ferricore" quest asks for raw Ferricore and a Ferricore ingot. It is listed after Primogel Goo.[3]
  4. a quest in "Just Dire Things" asks for the second tier of goo, which is also listed after Primogel Goo.[3]
  5. "Blazegold" quest asks for raw Blazegold and a Blazegold ingot. It is listed after Blazebloom Goo.[3]
  6. a quest in "Just Dire Things" asks for the third tier of goo, which is listed after Blazebloom Goo.[3]
  7. a quest in "Just Dire Things" asks for the fourth and final tier of goo. It is listed after VoidShimmer Goo, and its text says it unlocks Eclipse Alloy, Eclipse Ember and Time Crystal crafts.[3]
  8. a quest in "Just Dire Things" (subtitled "Timey Wimey") asks for the Time Crystal and comes after Shadowpulse Goo. Time Crystals grow on Budding Time Crystal Blocks, which come from goo spread on Budding Amethyst or a Time Crystal Block. The budding block must collect time from the Overworld, the Nether and the End before it can grow clusters.[3]
  9. a quest in "Just Dire Things" asks for the Polymorphic Fluid bucket. Its text calls this the base of all fluids and fuels in the mod, and says it is crafted by dropping Polymorphic Catalyst into water.[3]
  10. a quest in "Just Dire Things" is listed after both the Time Crystal and Polymorphic Fluid Bucket quests. Its text says you obtain Time Fluid by dropping a Time Crystal into Polymorphic Fluid.[3]
  11. a quest in "Just Dire Things" is the finish line: the Time Wand itself.[3]

The Time Fluid quest text says Time Fluid is also used by the Paradox Machine, whose quest is listed after the Time Crystal, Eclipse Alloy and Time Fluid Bucket quests, among others.[3]

What changed in Time in a bottle between versions?

1 part

Time in a bottle has been in the pack since All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0 or earlier. Version 2.0.4 ships the NeoForge build, 6.5.4.[2]

Mod changelog highlights

  • 6.5.4: fixed Fabric and JEI issues. This is the version your pack currently has.[2][6]
  • 6.5.0: fixed the API, fixed performance issues and added a Spanish translation.[7]

The mod's changelogs give only these short notes, so there is nothing more to say about what changed in between.[6][7]
