What is Soul Shards?
Soul Shards is part of this pack as version 1.3.15, shipped as the NeoForge file soulshards-1.21-1.3.15-neoforge.jar. It has been in the pack since this version or earlier.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Soul Shards does in this pack, who it suits best, or how its recipes and configs differ from the mod's defaults. I also couldn't confirm where it fits in the progression, including any link to the ATM Star path or any quests. Treat those points as unconfirmed until they are checked in the pack itself.
How do you get started with Soul Shards?
5 parts
Soul Shards is about capturing the souls of the mobs you kill. In this pack, the early game comes down to one material, the Corrupted Ingot, which you need for both the Soul Cage and the Vile Sword. Here's the order I'd go in.[2]
First: Vile Dust
Start with Vile Dust. You get it by smelting soul soil, so grab some and cook it. You'll need the dust for the Corrupted Ingot later on.[2]
Next: Corrupted Essence
Then comes Corrupted Essence. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from other modpacks. The recipe below is the one that counts here.[2]
This recipe is changed by the pack.
Then: Corrupted Ingot
Combine the essence and the dust to make a Corrupted Ingot. The pack changed this recipe too. The ingot is the key material for the rest of this guide.[2]

Soul Cage and Vile Sword
With a Corrupted Ingot in hand, you can make the Soul Cage and the Vile Sword. Both use the ingot as a main ingredient, and both are the mod's own recipes, not changed by the pack.[2]

Getting your first Soul Shard
The Soul Shard is a vessel for the souls of the slain. You get it by building a structure in the world and using an item on its origin block. The structure is 4 Obsidian, 4 Blocks of Quartz and 1 Glowstone, and you right-click the top of the Glowstone Block.[3]
How does Soul Shards work?
3 parts
The Soul Shard is the heart of this mod. It's described as a vessel for the souls of the slain. You get one by building a structure in the world and using an item on its origin block.[3]
Building the shard structure
The structure is made from these blocks, and the Glowstone Block is the one you interact with.[3]
Once it's built, right-click on the top of the Glowstone Block with the required item in hand. The mod's own description calls this the origin block.[3]
Souls per kill
The Soul Stealer enchantment increases the souls collected per kill by one per level.[3]
Crafting chain in this pack
The pack changes the Corrupted Essence and Corrupted Ingot recipes, so use these versions and not the mod's defaults. Start with Corrupted Essence.[2]
This recipe is changed by the pack.
Corrupted Ingot builds on Corrupted Essence and Vile Dust.[2]

Vile Dust comes from a smelting recipe that takes soul soil.[2]
The Corrupted Ingot then goes into the Soul Cage and the Vile Sword. Both use the mod's own recipes, which the pack leaves unchanged.[2]

How do you progress through Soul Shards?
5 parts
Here's the part I can confirm for this pack: the crafting chain that takes you from raw materials to a Soul Cage. It's a short chain, and the pack changed the Corrupted Essence and Corrupted Ingot recipes from the mod's defaults.[2]
First: Vile Dust
Everything starts with Vile Dust, which you get by smelting rather than crafting. This is the mod's own recipe, and the pack hasn't touched it.[2]
Next: Corrupted Essence
Then comes Corrupted Essence. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. It's shapeless, and it accepts any redstone dust and any lapis gem from the common tags.[2]
Then: Corrupted Ingot
The Corrupted Ingot recipe was changed by the pack too. It's a shaped recipe that combines your Corrupted Essence and Vile Dust with iron, and any ingot from the common iron tag works.[2]

What the Corrupted Ingot unlocks
Once you have Corrupted Ingots, you can make a Soul Cage and a Vile Sword. Both use the mod's own recipes, unchanged by the pack. First up is the Soul Cage.[2]

Quests
Unverified The quest sources here show no quests for this mod, so where Soul Shards fits in the pack's quest book is not confirmed. The crafting chain above is the progression path these sources document.
