What is Forgiving Void?
Forgiving Void is part of this pack. The pack ships version 21.1.5, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since version 1.0 or earlier.[1]
Unverified I can't confirm from the pack files what Forgiving Void does in this pack, who it is meant for, or whether the pack changes any of its settings, so I'm not describing its behavior or config values here. I also found no quests that involve the mod, and it is not on the ATM Star quest path.
How do you get started with Forgiving Void?
2 parts
Forgiving Void changes what happens when you fall out of the world. Instead of letting you die in the void, it forgives you and sends you back towards the sky. This section covers how that works and which options you can change.[2]
After you fall through the void, you drop again from a set height. That makes it a safety net any time you slip off the edge of your platform.[2]
What you can tune
- triggerAtDistanceBelow sets how far below the minimum y level you must go before the mod forgives you and sends you skyward.[2]
- fallingHeight sets the height you fall from after dropping through the void.[2]
- damageOnFall sets how much damage you take when you land.[2]
- preventDeath limits the fall damage so you keep at least 0.5 hearts.[2]
Which dimensions it works in
You can switch the mod off per dimension. Set triggerInOverworld, triggerInNether or triggerInEnd to false to stop it triggering in that dimension's void. These options take priority over the allow and deny lists.[2]
For other dimensions, dimensionAllowList lets you name the dimension ids where the mod should work. dimensionDenyList adds dimensions to exclude, and it is ignored if dimensionAllowList is set.[2]
How does Forgiving Void work?
3 parts
Forgiving Void is a safety net for falling out of the world. When you fall through the void, it forgives you and sends you towards the sky instead of letting you drop forever. The behaviour is controlled by a handful of options.[2]
What happens when you fall
The option triggerAtDistanceBelow sets the distance below the minimum y level at which the mod forgives you and sends you towards the sky. You then fall from a height set by fallingHeight. When you land, you take the damage set by damageOnFall.[2]
If preventDeath is on, the landing damage is limited so that you are left with at least 0.5 hearts.[2]
Which dimensions it works in
There is one on/off option for each vanilla dimension: triggerInOverworld (dimension 0), triggerInNether (dimension -1) and triggerInEnd (dimension 1). Setting one to false stops Forgiving Void from triggering in that dimension's void.[2]
For other dimensions you can use lists of dimension ids. dimensionAllowList names the dimensions where Forgiving Void is allowed. dimensionDenyList names additional dimensions to exclude, and it is ignored if dimensionAllowList is set. The triggerIn options take priority over both lists.[2]
Rubber-banding on servers
If players rubber-band while falling through the void, the option disableVanillaAntiCheatWhileFalling can be set to true.[2]
Unverified The values this pack uses for these options (trigger distance, falling height, landing damage, whether death is prevented, and the dimension lists) are set in the mod's config, which the sources here do not show, so no specific numbers are given.
