What is Construction Sticks?

2 parts

Construction Sticks is a building tool mod. This pack includes version 1.5.0 of it. The quest book describes it as a replacement for Construction Wands: you hold a stick and it places blocks for you.[1][2]

The sticks come in several tiers: the Stickiest Stick (shown in game as Stickiest Stick), Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick and Netherite Stick. The more expensive the stick, the more durability it has and the more blocks it can place.[2]

What a stick can do

Out of the box, a stick just places blocks to fill a space. You can change that by opening its GUI, but you have to set a keybind for it yourself first. In the GUI you can change where it places blocks, in what pattern, and even which blocks it places.[2]

The sticks also have their own upgrades that you can craft. To apply one, combine the upgrade with your stick in a Smithing Table.[2]

Where it sits in the quest book

The quest "Construction Sticks" quest is in the "Building Tips" chapter, which starts with "Building Tips!" quest. It comes right after "Paxel" quest, and that quest in turn comes after "Tools!" quest, which is the chapter's tools branch.[2]

Two other building quests also follow Paxel: "Compact Machines" quest and "Building Gadgets" quest. The Construction Sticks quest is completed by handing in any one of the five sticks.[2]

The chapter has 67 quests and only part of it is covered here, so the rest of the "Building Tips" chapter in the quest book is where to look for anything else around this quest.[2]

How do you get started with Construction Sticks?

4 parts

If you miss Construction Wands, this is the mod for you. The quest book says Mrbysco made Construction Sticks to fill that gap, and they place a lot of blocks at once. In the Building Tips chapter, "Construction Sticks" quest comes after "Paxel" quest, which itself follows "Tools!" quest. The quest asks for any one of the five sticks.[2]

Start with the Stickiest Stick

The Stickiest Stick is the first stick the quest lists, so it's a good place to begin. It's a plain crafting recipe, so you don't need any upgrades to try the basic mechanics.[2][3]

Move up the tiers

The quest says the more expensive a stick is, the more durability it has and the more blocks it can place. Above the Stickiest Stick come the Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick and Netherite Stick, shown in that order below.[2]

Unverified The exact block count and durability of each tier are not shown in the sources here. The mod has per-stick settings in its configuration, but no config file for it is available, so check the in-game config screen.

Learn the controls

By default a stick just places blocks to fill a space. To change how it behaves, open its GUI. The quest warns that you have to set a keybind for that yourself. Once it's open you can change where blocks go, in what pattern, and even which blocks get placed.[2]

A few handy things to know early. A bound key switches the placement restriction (Horizontal, Vertical, North/South, East/West or No lock). Blocks in your offhand are placed instead of the block you're looking at. Shulker boxes, bundles and many containers from other mods can supply building blocks to the stick.[4]

Tip: Made a mistake? Hold the bound undo key while looking at a block to see your last placements with a green border. Pressing the key while looking at any of them undoes the operation and gives you the items back.[4]

Add upgrades with templates

Sticks have their own upgrades. You craft an upgrade template, then put it together with your stick and the required item in a Smithing Table. The Smithing Table recipes show which item each upgrade needs. Here is what each template does:[2][4]

Watch out: The battery upgrade only helps if you have another mod that can charge the stick.[4]

Here are the template recipes, followed by an example Smithing Table upgrade.[3]

How does Construction Sticks work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Construction Sticks have no machines, power networks or multiblocks to set up. The mod is about building faster: you point a stick at a block and it extends the side of the building that faces you. Every stick has durability, and the rest of the mod is a set of toggles and upgrades that change how that placing works.[5]

Where blocks come from

The stick pulls its building blocks from your inventory. Shulker boxes, bundles and many containers from other mods can also supply blocks, so you can carry a big stock in one slot.[5]

Offhand priority matters too. If you hold blocks in your offhand, the stick places those instead of the block you are looking at. That is handy for adding a different material to a wall.[5]

Placement options

You can change how the stick places with keybinds or the option screen. The mod adds these keys under its own Construction Sticks category: Toggle Direction, Toggle Restriction, Toggle Upgrade, Open Stick Options, Show Previous, Toggle Random and Undo Operation.[5]

  • Restriction cycles through Horizontal, Vertical, North/South, East/West and No lock. Horizontal builds a horizontal column in front of the original block, and Vertical builds a vertical column. North/South and East/West build a row in that direction on top of the original block. No lock extends from any side.[5]
  • Direction decides how placed blocks face. They can face the player, or take the same direction as the target block.[5]
  • Match is either Exact or Similar. Exact only extends blocks that are exactly the same. Similar treats related blocks, such as dirt and grass types, as equal.[5]
  • Random places random blocks present in your hotbar instead of one repeated block.[5]
  • Replace, when on, lets the stick replace certain blocks like fluids, snow and tallgrass as it places.[5]

Undo

Made a mistake? Hold the Show Previous key while looking at blocks and the last ones you placed get a green border. Press the Undo key while looking at any of them and the whole operation is undone, giving you all the items back. If you used the destruction upgrade, undo restores the blocks it removed.[5]

Upgrades

Upgrades are applied in a Smithing Table. You put the upgrade template, your stick and a required item together. Each upgrade has its own required item, so check the Smithing Table recipes in the recipe viewer. To switch between installed upgrades, press the Toggle Upgrade key while holding the stick, or use the option screen. With no upgrade active, the stick just extends your building on the side facing you.[5]

  • Angel Stick Template: places a block on the opposite side of the block (or row of blocks) you are facing. Maximum distance depends on the stick tier. Right click empty space to place a block in midair, with the block you want to place in your offhand.[5]
  • Battery Template: the stick uses energy instead of durability and can store energy to place blocks. You can only charge it if another mod provides a way to do so.[5]
  • Destruction Stick Template: destroys blocks on the side facing you, but not block entities. Maximum number of blocks depends on the stick tier. Destroyed blocks disappear into the void, so use undo if you slip.[5]
  • Replacement Stick Template: swaps blocks for the type you hold in your offhand, which is useful for replacing walls after placement.[5]
  • Unbreakable Template: you place blocks without using durability, so the stick never breaks.[5]

The pack has 25 smithing upgrade recipes for this mod. Here is the angel upgrade on a Copper Stick as an example, and below it the recipe for the template itself.[6]

Stick tiers

The mod has five sticks: Stickiest Stick, Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick and Netherite Stick. The angel and destruction upgrades scale with the tier of the stick you use.[5]

Unverified The exact placement counts, durability, upgrade distances, destruction limits, battery capacity and undo history size for each tier in this pack could not be confirmed, because no config values for this mod are available.

How do you progress through Construction Sticks?

2 parts

In this pack the Construction Sticks live in the Building Tips chapter of the quest book. The quest "Construction Sticks" quest comes after "Paxel" quest, which itself comes after "Tools!" quest, the quest that starts you off with a plain stick. It is completed by handing in any one of the five sticks, so you don't need to craft the whole line to tick it off.[2]

The five stick tiers

The quest book lists five tiers: Stickiest Stick, Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick and Netherite Stick. The quest says the more expensive a stick is, the more durability it has and the more blocks it can place. Out of the box a stick just fills a space with blocks, and you can change that from its GUI.[2][3]

Here is how each tier is crafted in this pack, starting with the Stickiest Stick.[3]

Upgrades

Every stick tier can take upgrades. The five upgrade templates are Angel Stick Template, Battery Template, Destruction Stick Template, Replacement Stick Template and Unbreakable Template. You apply one to a stick at a Smithing Table, and the in-pack recipe for each template is shown below.[2][3]

  1. Craft the stick tier you want, then craft the template you want to add.[3]
  2. Put the stick, the template and the extra item that the smithing recipe asks for into a Smithing Table. You get the same stick back with the upgrade applied.[2][3]

The pack has a smithing recipe for every combination of the five sticks and the five templates, and the extra item depends on which template you use. Here is the Angel upgrade on a Copper Stick as an example.[2][3]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Construction Sticks?

3 parts

The mod has one quest in the pack, "Construction Sticks" quest, and it sits in the Building Tips chapter. That chapter is the quest book's builder's corner, with 67 quests on blocks, decoration, lighting and tools.[2]

Where it sits in the chapter

  1. "Building Tips!" quest opens the chapter. Tools!, Blocks! and Decoration! all come after it.[2]
  2. "Tools!" quest comes after Building Tips! and asks for a plain Minecraft stick. It tells you that you'll want tools to get blocks, tools to get different versions of those blocks, and tools to place blocks.[2]
  3. "Paxel" quest comes after Tools!. It's about the Paxel, a combined pickaxe, axe and shovel that saves inventory space.[2]
  4. "Construction Sticks" quest comes after Paxel.[2]

What the Construction Sticks quest asks for

The quest takes any one of the five sticks: Stickiest Stick, Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick or Netherite Stick. You only need one, so the cheapest tier completes it.[2]

The quest text says the more expensive a stick is, the more durability it has and the more blocks it can place. By default a stick just places blocks to fill a space. You can open its GUI to change where it places blocks, in what pattern, and even which blocks it places. You have to set a keybind yourself to open that GUI.[2]

The sticks also have their own upgrades that you craft. To apply one, combine the upgrade with your Construction Stick in a Smithing Table.[2]

Other quests after Paxel

Construction Sticks isn't the only quest that follows Paxel. "Compact Machines" quest, "Building Gadgets" quest and "Quarries and Mines" quest branch off from it too, so you can take them in any order. All of them are building-related tools and gadgets.[2]
