Construction Sticks is a mod in All the Mons 1.3.0, where it is version 1.5.0. Sticks that make building easier (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Construction Sticks?

1 part

Construction Sticks is a building tool mod, made by Mrbysco as a replacement for Construction Wands. The pack includes version 1.5.0. A Construction Stick places blocks for you, and by default it simply fills a space.[1][2]

There are several tiers: Stickiest Stick, Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick and Netherite Stick. The more expensive the stick, the more durability it has and the more blocks it can place in one go.[2]

Open a stick's GUI and you can change where it places blocks, in what pattern, and even which blocks it places. The GUI has no default key, so you need to set a keybind yourself first.[2]

Sticks also have their own upgrades, which you craft. To apply one, combine the upgrade with your stick in a Smithing Table.[2]

Where it sits in the quest book

The quest "Construction Sticks" quest is in the "Building Tips" chapter, which is chapter 3 of 70 in the book and has 63 quests. The chapter starts with "Building Tips!" quest, which leads to "Tools!" quest.[2]

Construction Sticks comes right after "Paxel" quest. The quest asks you to hold any one of the five sticks. Two other quests also follow Paxel: "Compact Machines" quest and "Building Gadgets" quest, so building gadgets sit side by side here.[2]

I can't show you what comes after Construction Sticks, because about half of this chapter's quests are not in the material I worked from. You will find them in the quest book itself. This mod is not on the ATM Star quest path, so you can treat it as an optional building helper.[2]

How do you get started with Construction Sticks?

4 parts

Construction Sticks let you extend a surface with blocks instead of placing them one by one. A stick places blocks at the side of a building that you are facing. In this pack's quest book the Construction Sticks quest sits in the Building Tips chapter, right after the Paxel quest. "Construction Sticks" quest asks for any one of the five sticks.[2][3]

Step 1: Make your first stick

Start with the Stickiest Stick. The quest accepts any of the five sticks, so this one counts, and it lets you learn the controls before you commit better materials.[2][4]

Step 2: Pick a tier to grow into

The quest book says the more expensive a stick is, the more durability it has and the more blocks it can place. Besides the Stickiest Stick, the tiers are the Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick and Netherite Stick.[2][4]

Step 3: Set your keybinds

The quest book warns that you need to set a keybind yourself to open the stick's option screen. In there you can change where it places blocks, in what pattern, and even which blocks it places.[2]

There are a few more handy things to know once you are building:[3]

  • A bound key changes the placement restriction: Horizontal, Vertical, North/South, East/West or No lock.[3]
  • Undo: hold the bound key while looking at blocks to see your last placed blocks with a green border. Press the undo key while looking at any of them to undo the operation and get the items back.[3]
  • Shulker boxes, bundles and many containers from other mods can supply building blocks for the stick.[3]
  • Blocks in your offhand are placed instead of the block you are looking at.[3]

Step 4: Add upgrades when you are ready

Upgrades come from templates that you craft. To apply one, put the template, your stick and the required item together in a Smithing Table. The Smithing Table recipes show what that required item is. The five templates do this:[2][3]

  • Angel Stick Template: places a block on the opposite side of the block or row you are facing. Right click empty space to place a block in midair, with the block you want in your offhand.[3][4]
  • Battery Template: lets the stick use energy instead of durability. You can only charge it if you have a mod that provides a way to do so.[3][4]
  • Destruction Stick Template: destroys blocks (not block entities) on the side facing you. Undo can bring them back if you make a mistake.[3][4]
  • Replacement Stick Template: swaps blocks for the type you hold in your offhand, which is handy for replacing walls after placement.[3][4]
  • Unbreakable Template: places blocks without using durability, so the stick never breaks.[3][4]

How does Construction Sticks work?

5 parts

Construction Sticks have no machines, power networks or multiblocks to set up. The mod is about building faster: you point a stick at a block and it extends the side of the building that faces you. Every stick has durability, and the rest of the mod is a set of toggles and upgrades that change how that placing works.[3]

Where blocks come from

The stick pulls its building blocks from your inventory. Shulker boxes, bundles and many containers from other mods can also supply blocks, so you can carry a big stock in one slot.[3]

Offhand priority matters too. If you hold blocks in your offhand, the stick places those instead of the block you are looking at. That is handy for adding a different material to a wall.[3]

Placement options

You can change how the stick places with keybinds or the option screen. The mod adds these keys under its own Construction Sticks category: Toggle Direction, Toggle Restriction, Toggle Upgrade, Open Stick Options, Show Previous, Toggle Random and Undo Operation.[3]

  • Restriction cycles through Horizontal, Vertical, North/South, East/West and No lock. Horizontal builds a horizontal column in front of the original block, and Vertical builds a vertical column. North/South and East/West build a row in that direction on top of the original block. No lock extends from any side.[3]
  • Direction decides how placed blocks face. They can face the player, or take the same direction as the target block.[3]
  • Match is either Exact or Similar. Exact only extends blocks that are exactly the same. Similar treats related blocks, such as dirt and grass types, as equal.[3]
  • Random places random blocks present in your hotbar instead of one repeated block.[3]
  • Replace, when on, lets the stick replace certain blocks like fluids, snow and tallgrass as it places.[3]

Undo

Made a mistake? Hold the Show Previous key while looking at blocks and the last ones you placed get a green border. Press the Undo key while looking at any of them and the whole operation is undone, giving you all the items back. If you used the destruction upgrade, undo restores the blocks it removed.[3]

Upgrades

Upgrades are applied in a Smithing Table. You put the upgrade template, your stick and a required item together. Each upgrade has its own required item, so check the Smithing Table recipes in the recipe viewer. To switch between installed upgrades, press the Toggle Upgrade key while holding the stick, or use the option screen. With no upgrade active, the stick just extends your building on the side facing you.[3]

  • Angel Stick Template: places a block on the opposite side of the block (or row of blocks) you are facing. Maximum distance depends on the stick tier. Right click empty space to place a block in midair, with the block you want to place in your offhand.[3]
  • Battery Template: the stick uses energy instead of durability and can store energy to place blocks. You can only charge it if another mod provides a way to do so.[3]
  • Destruction Stick Template: destroys blocks on the side facing you, but not block entities. Maximum number of blocks depends on the stick tier. Destroyed blocks disappear into the void, so use undo if you slip.[3]
  • Replacement Stick Template: swaps blocks for the type you hold in your offhand, which is useful for replacing walls after placement.[3]
  • Unbreakable Template: you place blocks without using durability, so the stick never breaks.[3]

The pack has 25 smithing upgrade recipes for this mod. Here is the angel upgrade on a Copper Stick as an example, and below it the recipe for the template itself.[4]

Stick tiers

The mod has five sticks: Stickiest Stick, Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick and Netherite Stick. The angel and destruction upgrades scale with the tier of the stick you use.[3]

Unverified The exact placement counts, durability, upgrade distances, destruction limits, battery capacity and undo history size for each tier in this pack could not be confirmed, because no config values for this mod are available.

How do you progress through Construction Sticks?

3 parts

Construction Sticks give you five tiers of stick, and each one can take upgrades on top. The quest book tells you the basic idea: the more expensive the stick, the more durability it has and the more blocks it can place.[2]

Where it sits in the quest book

You'll find this in the Building Tips chapter, which is chapter 3 of 70 and holds 63 quests. The path is short and easy to follow:[2]

  1. Start with "Building Tips!" quest, the chapter opener.[2]
  2. Next is "Tools!" quest, which asks for a plain stick and tells you to start with one.[2]
  3. Then comes "Paxel" quest, the Paxel quest.[2]
  4. Finally "Construction Sticks" quest unlocks after the Paxel quest.[2]

The Construction Sticks quest sits beside several other quests that also unlock after the Paxel one: "Compact Machines" quest, "Building Gadgets" quest, "Quarries and Mines" quest and a quest in "Building Tips".[2]

Tip: The Construction Sticks quest accepts any one of the five sticks, so you don't need to craft every tier to complete it.[2]

The five tiers

The five sticks are the Stickiest Stick, the Copper Stick, the Iron Stick, the Diamond Stick and the Netherite Stick. Here is how each one is crafted in this pack.[2][4]

Out of the box a stick just places blocks to fill a space. You open its GUI to change that, but you have to set a keybind yourself first. In the GUI you can change where it places blocks, in what pattern, and even which blocks it places.[2]

Upgrades

The quest book says the sticks have their own upgrades that you craft, and you apply one by combining it with your stick at a Smithing Table. The upgrades are these templates:[2]

Every template has a smithing recipe for every tier, from the Stickiest Stick up to the Netherite Stick, so you can add upgrades at any point on the path. Here are the template crafting recipes.[4]

Which All the Mons quests use Construction Sticks?

4 parts

The Construction Sticks live in the "Building Tips" chapter of the quest book, which is chapter 3 of 70 and has 63 quests. It's a chapter about the tools and blocks you use for building, and the sticks sit in the tools branch.[2]

The path to the sticks

  1. Start at "Building Tips!" quest, the opening quest of the chapter. It's just a friendly note that the book can't tell you how to build, but it can give you tips.[2]
  2. Next is "Tools!" quest, which comes after the opening quest and asks you to hand in a plain stick.[2]
  3. After that comes "Paxel" quest. It's about combining pickaxe, axe and shovel into one tool to save inventory space.[2]
  4. Finally there's "Construction Sticks" quest, which comes after the Paxel quest.[2]

What the Construction Sticks quest asks for

The task is to hand in one item, and any of the five sticks counts: Stickiest Stick, Copper Stick, Iron Stick, Diamond Stick or Netherite Stick. So you can complete it with whichever tier you can afford first.[2]

The quest text explains the idea: it's a stand-in for Construction Wands, made by Mrbysco. The more expensive the stick, the more durability it has and the more blocks it can place.[2]

What the quest tells you about using them

  • By default a stick just places blocks to fill a space.[2]
  • You change its options in its GUI, but you have to set a keybind yourself to open it.[2]
  • Inside the GUI you can change where it places blocks, in what pattern, and even which blocks it places.[2]
  • Sticks have their own craftable upgrades. To apply one, combine the upgrade with your stick in a Smithing Table.[2]

Neighbouring quests

Four other quests also come after the Paxel quest, so you can take them in any order alongside the sticks: "Compact Machines" quest, "Building Gadgets" quest, "Quarries and Mines" quest and a quest in "Building Tips". Building Gadgets is the closest relative, since it's another set of items made just for placing blocks.[2]
