What is Overlapless?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Overlapless is part of the pack's mod list. The current pack version ships Overlapless 1.21.1-1.2.0, using the file overlapless-1.21.1-1.2.0.jar.[1]

It has been in the pack for a while. It was already included in version 8.0 or earlier, so it isn't a new addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Overlapless actually does, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. There is no platform description or in-jar guidebook to confirm any of that, so I'm not guessing. Nothing here confirms that the mod adds recipes, items, configs or quests.

Unverified The mod does not appear to be on the ATM Star quest path, and no quests in the pack involve it. This was not confirmed from a mod page or quest file, only from the absence of that data.

How do you get started with Overlapless?

2 parts

Overlapless is a world generation helper, so there is no first item to craft with it. Everything the sources show about it in this pack comes from one config file, so this section covers what the mod does to your world as you explore.[2]

What the config tells you

The mod keeps generated features from overlapping existing structures. The config comment explains that if you still see overlaps, they are most likely features rather than structures, for example a desert well or an amethyst geode. You can add those feature names to Overlapless.SkippableFeatures.[2]

In this pack that list holds a single entry: oritech:resource_node. The config also warns that you can't put every feature on the list, because trees, ores and flowers are features too.[2]

Structures that always generate

Overlapless.UnskippableStructures holds structures that always generate, even when existing structures already occupy the chunk sections. In this pack the list is: deeperdarker:ancient_temple, allthemodium:dungeon, minecraft:end_city, allthemons:birth_island, allthemons:elite_gym and rgs:kanto_league.[2]

Tip: If you're debugging odd world generation, Overlapless.PrintFeatureSkipEventInLog and Overlapless.PrintStructureSkipEventInLog can print skip events to the log. Both are set to false in this pack, so you would need to turn them on yourself.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no recipes and no quests for Overlapless, so there is no first-items order to give for this mod. Check the pack's quest book and recipe viewer in game for anything beyond the config. This site does hold All the Mons's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Overlapless work?

3 parts

Here's the thing about Overlapless in this pack: the only material available to describe it is its common config file. That file covers how the mod treats overlapping world generation. Nothing in it describes machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation, so this section sticks to what the config shows.[2]

Features vs. structures

The config explains that if you still see overlapping generated structures in your world, they are most likely Features rather than Structures. Its examples are the desert well and the amethyst geode. You can list a feature's registry name in Overlapless.SkippableFeatures so it won't be allowed to overlap existing structures.[2]

The config also warns that you can't just stop every feature from overlapping structures, because trees, ores, flowers and other small things are features too.[2]

In this pack, that skippable list contains only oritech:resource_node.[2]

Structures that always generate

Overlapless.UnskippableStructures works the other way around. Structures on this list always generate, even if existing structures already occupy the chunk sections. The pack sets it to these structures:[2]

  • deeperdarker:ancient_temple[2]
  • allthemodium:dungeon[2]
  • minecraft:end_city[2]
  • allthemons:birth_island[2]
  • allthemons:elite_gym[2]
  • rgs:kanto_league[2]

Logging

Skip events can be printed to the log through Overlapless.PrintFeatureSkipEventInLog for features and Overlapless.PrintStructureSkipEventInLog for structures. The pack has both set to false, so skip events aren't printed to the log.[2]

Which Overlapless config options matter?

3 parts

Overlapless stops generated things from overlapping existing structures. In this pack, everything lives in the common config file, and here is how the pack sets each option.[2]

Features that are allowed to be skipped

Overlapless.SkippableFeatures is set to just oritech:resource_node in this pack. Features listed here are kept from overlapping existing structures. The config comment explains that overlaps you still see are most likely Features rather than Structures, with Desert Well and Amethyst Geode as examples.[2]

Watch out: Don't add every feature to this list. The config comment says that's not acceptable, because trees, ores, flowers and other small things are features too.[2]

Structures that always generate

Overlapless.UnskippableStructures lists structures that always generate, even when existing structures already occupy the chunk sections. The pack sets it to these entries:[2]

  • deeperdarker:ancient_temple[2]
  • allthemodium:dungeon[2]
  • minecraft:end_city[2]
  • allthemons:birth_island[2]
  • allthemons:elite_gym[2]
  • rgs:kanto_league[2]

Logging

Both Overlapless.PrintFeatureSkipEventInLog and Overlapless.PrintStructureSkipEventInLog are set to false in this pack, so feature and structure skip events are not printed to the log.[2]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as overlapless, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser

Overlapless.SkippableFeatures
If you still find overlapping generated structures in your world, they are most likely Features rather than Structures. For example, Desert Well and Amethyst Geode You can write down the features' registry names here so they will not get overlapped with existing structures. It's not acceptable to prevent all the features from getting overlapped with structures. Because trees/ores/flowers/etc small things are also features lol.
