What is Mining Gadgets?
1 part
This pack includes Mining Gadgets 1.18.7. It has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. The mod adds three tools: Mining Gadget MK1 (MK1), Mining Gadget MK2 (MK2) and Mining Gadget MK3 (MK3).[1][2]
Where the quest book puts it
The gadget has its own quest, a quest in "Basic Tools", in the "Basic Tools" chapter. That chapter sits in the "Tools and Gear" group and is chapter 27 of 70 in the book. It has 72 quests.[2]
The chapter is a tool comparison. It starts with the intro quest "Basic Tools!" quest, which sets out to show where each tool sits among the others. Pickaxes are listed by harvest tier and swords by base damage. The gadget quest is listed with the pickaxes and carries "Tier: 4", the same tier the book gives the diamond pickaxe.[2]
The quest is satisfied by any one of the three gadgets, so MK1, MK2 or MK3 all count. Its only prerequisite is the intro quest, so it comes after that quest and nothing else. No other quest in the chapter is listed as coming after it.[2]
Unverified The sources I have for this pack don't describe how the Mining Gadget works in game, so I can't confirm its mechanics, upgrades or recipes here.
How do you get started with Mining Gadgets?
4 parts
Mining Gadgets is built around a handheld gadget that you customise with upgrades, and nearly everything in it starts from one item. Here is the order I'd craft things in, using the real in-pack recipes.[3][4]
Start with a Blank Upgrade Module
Everything starts with the Blank Upgrade Module. The gadgets, the Modification Table and most of the upgrades all use it in their recipes. This pack adds its own recipe for it, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

This recipe is added by the pack.
Craft your Mining Gadget
The mod has three gadgets: Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 and Mining Gadget MK3. In this pack each one has its own recipe, and all three use the same inputs.[3][4]

In the quest book, the gadget quest is called a quest in "Basic Tools". It sits in the Basic Tools chapter (group Tools and Gear, chapter 27 of 70) and comes after the Basic Tools! quest. It is marked Tier: 4, and it accepts any of the three gadgets. The chapter says its pickaxe and sword quests are optional.[2]
Build the Modification Table
The Modification Table is where upgrades go onto the gadget. Its screen tells you to shift click to insert upgrades from your slots, or to drop an upgrade onto the screen, and to click an upgrade to remove it.[4]

Craft your first upgrades
Most upgrades are a Blank Upgrade Module plus a few extras, and the tiered ones chain: each tier uses the previous tier as an ingredient. Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 and Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1 are a simple place to start, since both are made straight from the Blank Upgrade Module with the mod's own recipes.[3]

How does Mining Gadgets work?
3 parts
Mining Gadgets is built around a handheld tool in three versions: the Mining Gadget MK1 (MK1), the Mining Gadget MK2 (MK2) and the Mining Gadget MK3 (MK3). You fit upgrades to the gadget at the Modification Table.[3][4]
Fitting upgrades at the Modification Table
The Modification Table screen is where you manage upgrades. To add one, shift click it from your inventory slots, or drop the upgrade onto the screen. To take one back out, click it. If nothing can be fitted, the screen tells you "No Upgrades available".[4]

Reading the gadget tooltip
The gadget's tooltip shows a "Per Block Cost" line. Hold shift on the tooltip to show the upgrades fitted to it.[4]
Some settings live on the gadget screen. There is a Precision Mode value, and the Upgrade: Freezing upgrade has a delay setting that controls how often a freeze particle spawns. By default it is one particle every tick, and adding more delay reduces the number of particles.[4]
The upgrade chain
Upgrades start from the Blank Upgrade Module. The pack removed the mod's own recipe for it and added its own, so don't rely on what you know from other packs.[3][5]

This is the pack's own recipe for the Blank Upgrade Module, added by the pack's script.
The three gadgets and the Modification Table all use the Blank Upgrade Module in their recipes, so this one recipe gates the whole mod.[3]
Battery, efficiency and range upgrades each come in three tiers: Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1, Upgrade: Battery, Tier 2 and Upgrade: Battery, Tier 3 for battery, Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1, Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 2 and Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 3 for efficiency, and Upgrade: Range, Tier 1, Upgrade: Range, Tier 2 and Upgrade: Range, Tier 3 for range. The recipe below shows how a higher tier builds on the one before it.[3]

Battery Tier 2 is built from the Tier 1 upgrade.
The pack changed several of these recipes from the mod's defaults: all three range tiers, efficiency tiers 2 and 3, and the Upgrade: 3x3 (3x3) upgrade. Use the recipe shown on this site rather than a wiki for the base mod.[3]

The 3x3 upgrade recipe is changed by the pack.
The Upgrade: Silk touch and Upgrade: Light Placer upgrades use the mod's own recipes, and so does the Freezing upgrade. Each is made from a Blank Upgrade Module.[3]
How do you progress through Mining Gadgets?
5 parts
Mining Gadgets progression is two things: getting a gadget, then climbing the upgrade chains. In this pack the quest book only covers the first part, and everything else comes from the in-pack recipes below.[2][3]
Where the quest book puts it
The gadget has one quest, a quest in "Basic Tools", in the "Basic Tools" chapter. That chapter is chapter 27 of 70 in the book, in the "Tools and Gear" group. The quest comes straight after the chapter's opening quest "Basic Tools!" quest, and no other quest in the chapter lists it as a prerequisite. It is titled MK3, but any of Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 or Mining Gadget MK3 completes it.[2]
The chapter labels the gadget "Tier: 4", the same label it gives the diamond pickaxe. The chapter's Harvest Tier 4 quest, "Harvest Tier 4" quest, describes that level as Diamond tool level, used to get Obsidian and Netherite, plus some modded ores like Uranium and Platinum. The chapter also says the pickaxe and sword quests in it are optional.[2]
Step 1: the Blank Upgrade Module
Almost everything in this mod starts from the Blank Upgrade Module. The pack removed the mod's own recipe for it and added its own with a KubeJS script, so this is the pack's recipe, not the mod default. The three gadgets, the Modification Table and every first-tier upgrade all take a blank module.[3][5]
Shaped (kubejs)

Step 2: the gadget and the table
The recipe dump lists the same ingredients for the MK1, MK2 and MK3 gadgets, and all three are mod recipes the pack leaves alone. The Modification Table is also an unchanged mod recipe.[3]

Recipe id: mininggadgets:modificationtable
Unchanged mod recipe.
Step 3: the upgrade chains
Upgrades come in tiered chains. Each tier after the first is crafted from the previous tier's upgrade, so you build them in order and cannot skip a tier.[3]
- Efficiency: Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 5. Tier 1 is an unchanged mod recipe, and tiers 2 to 5 are changed by the pack.[3]
- Range: Upgrade: Range, Tier 1, Upgrade: Range, Tier 2 and Upgrade: Range, Tier 3. All three recipes are changed by the pack.[3]
- Size: Upgrade: 3x3 (3x3), Upgrade: 5x5 (5x5) and Upgrade: 7x7 (7x7). All three recipes are changed by the pack.[3]
- Fortune: Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 1, Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 2 and Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 3. All three recipes are changed by the pack.[3]
- Battery: Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1, Upgrade: Battery, Tier 2 and Upgrade: Battery, Tier 3. These use the mod's own recipes.[3]
Crafting Shaped

| any ender pearl | any ender pearl | |

Top of the Size chain, also changed by the pack.
Single-tier upgrades
Five upgrades have no tiers: Upgrade: Freezing, Upgrade: Light Placer, Upgrade: Magnet, Upgrade: Silk touch and Upgrade: Void Junk. Each is crafted from a blank module and uses the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.[3]
Which All the Mons quests use Mining Gadgets?
3 parts
The Mining Gadget shows up in one place in the quest book: the "Basic Tools" chapter, which sits in the "Tools and Gear" group and is chapter 27 of 70 in the book. It is a reference chapter with 72 quests, and it's a handy one if you ever wonder where a tool sits compared to the others.[2]
The chapter's starting point
Everything in the chapter hangs off "Basic Tools!" quest, whose task is a stick. It explains that the swords are sorted by base damage, that swords which can be upgraded or used to get more damage are left out, and that the quests for all the pickaxes and swords are OPTIONAL.[2]
The Mining Gadget quest
The gadget has a single quest, a quest in "Basic Tools", which comes straight after "Basic Tools!" quest. It is listed as Tier: 4, so it is grouped with the other tier 4 pickaxes such as the Diamond Pickaxe quest.[2]
The quest is titled MK3, but you don't need that exact version. Its task accepts any one of Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 or Mining Gadget MK3.[2]
What tier 4 means
The chapter also has a chain of Harvest Tier quests that explain what each tier can mine. They run in order: "Harvest Tier 1" quest (cobblestone), "Harvest Tier 2" quest (raw iron), "Harvest Tier 3" quest (diamond), "Harvest Tier 4" quest (ancient debris), "Harvest Tier 5" quest (raw allthemodium) and "Harvest Tier 6" quest (raw unobtainium).[2]
For the gadget's tier, the book says tier 4 is Diamond tool level, used to get Obsidian and Netherite, plus some modded ores like Uranium and Platinum.[2]
