What is memorysettings mod?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

This pack ships memorysettings at version 6.0, using the file memorysettings-1.21-6.0.jar. It has been part of the pack since version 2.26 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what memorysettings does, who it is aimed at, or any settings it adds. I can't confirm its features from them, so I'm not guessing.

Unverified No quests in this pack involve the mod, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. Nothing in the sources places it in the pack's progression, and there are no pack-specific recipes or config changes to report.

How do you get started with memorysettings mod?

3 parts

memorysettings mod is a memory (RAM) checker. It compares the memory the game has been given with thresholds the pack sets, and shows a warning if the amount is off. So your first steps are about checking your memory setup, not building anything.[2]

What the pack sets

The client minimum is minimumClient.minimumClient, and this pack sets it to 6,000 MB. The config describes it as the lowest value that keeps the pack playable, so treat it as your floor when you allocate memory for the game.[2]

If you run a server, the minimum is minimumServer.minimumServer, which the pack sets to 4,096 MB.[2]

There are also upper thresholds: maximumClient.maximumClient is 32,000 MB and maximumServer.maximumServer is 128,000 MB. The config describes these as a generous maximum with some extra over what the pack needs.[2]

The pack maps your total system memory to a recommended allocation, in MB. These are the pairs it uses:[2]

  • 16,000 MB of system memory: 8,000 MB recommended.[2]
  • 32,000 MB of system memory: 12,000 MB recommended.[2]
  • 48,000 MB of system memory: 12,000 MB recommended.[2]
  • 64,000 MB of system memory: 12,000 MB recommended.[2]

The option behind this is [[config:config/memorysettings.json#recommendedMemory.memory values]].[2]

If you see the warning

When you have allocated less than the pack's recommended minimum, the early warning message tells you your current allocation, the pack minimum and the amount suggested for your system. It says to click OK to open a page with instructions on allocating more memory, or Cancel to ignore the warning. The page it opens is set in howtolink.howtolink.[2]

The mod's own text also includes the buttons "Open guide" and "Stop showing".[3]

Tip: warningTolerance.warningTolerance is how many percent your memory may deviate from the recommended amount for your system before you get a warning. This pack sets it to 200.[2]

The warnings are on in this pack: disableWarnings.disableWarnings is false.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no recipes, items or quests for this mod, so there is no crafting order to follow. Anything beyond the config values above is not shown in the sources.

How does memorysettings mod work?

3 parts

memorysettings is a memory warning tool. It compares the RAM Minecraft has been given against thresholds set in its config and warns you when the amount looks wrong. The sources show no machines, multiblocks or power, fluid or item handling for it. Everything it does is controlled from minimumClient.minimumClient and the other options in its config file.[2][3]

Minimum and maximum thresholds

The mod has separate thresholds for the client (your game) and for a server, each in MB. The config describes the minimum as the lowest value that still keeps the pack playable, and the maximum as a generous ceiling a bit above what the pack needs.[2]

The recommendation depends on how much RAM your system has. The list in [[config:config/memorysettings.json#recommendedMemory.memory values]] is written as pairs in the form system memory:recommended, in MB. This pack uses these pairs: 16,000:8,000, 32,000:12,000, 48,000:12,000 and 64,000:12,000. So a system with 16,000 MB gets 8,000 MB recommended, and the larger systems in the list get 12,000 MB.[2]

warningTolerance.warningTolerance sets how many percent your memory is allowed to deviate from the recommendation for your system before you get a warning. This pack sets it to 200.[2]

The warning screen

When you have allocated too little, the mod shows an early warning screen. Its text comes from earlyWarningMinimumMemory.earlyWarningMinimumMemory, and you can use %d placeholders in it for your current memory, the minimum and the recommended memory, in that order. This pack's message tells you how much you allocated, the recommended minimum for the pack, and the amount suggested for your system. It then says OK opens instructions for allocating more memory and Cancel ignores the warning.[2]

The mod's own screen text includes the buttons "Open guide" and "Stop showing". The config option howtolink.howtolink holds the link used to guide players to a website with instructions for changing memory allocation.[2][3]

Tip: If you'd rather not see the warnings at all, disableWarnings.disableWarnings turns them off. This pack leaves it at false, so warnings are on.[2]

Which memorysettings mod config options matter?

4 parts

This mod checks how much RAM you've given the game and warns you if it's too low. The pack changed a few of the mod's defaults, so here is what matters in config/memorysettings.json.[2]

Values the pack changed

  • minimumClient.minimumClient is 6,000 MB in this pack. That is higher than the default its description lists, so the pack asks for more memory on the client before the warning goes away.[2]
  • minimumServer.minimumServer is 4,096 MB in this pack. This is also higher than the default its description lists, so it is a pack change too.[2]
  • warningTolerance.warningTolerance is 200 in this pack. It sets how many percent your memory may deviate from the recommended amount for your system before you're warned. The description lists a default and a maximum, and the pack's value is above that maximum, so I can't confirm how the mod treats it.[2]

[[config:config/memorysettings.json#recommendedMemory.memory values]] maps your total system memory to the amount the mod suggests allocating. Each entry is a pair of system memory and recommended memory in MB. This is how the pack sets them:[2]

  • A system with 16,000 MB is recommended 8,000 MB.[2]
  • A system with 32,000 MB is recommended 12,000 MB.[2]
  • Systems with 48,000 MB and 64,000 MB are both recommended 12,000 MB.[2]

The suggested amount shown in the warning screen is based on this table.[2]

Maximum thresholds

maximumClient.maximumClient is 32,000 MB and maximumServer.maximumServer is 128,000 MB. The descriptions say to choose a generous maximum a bit above the recommended memory. They don't state defaults, so I can't say whether the pack changed these.[2]

The warning screen itself

disableWarnings.disableWarnings is false, which matches the default listed in its description, so the warnings are on. Set it to true if you want them gone.[2]

earlyWarningMinimumMemory.earlyWarningMinimumMemory is the message you see when you've allocated too little. It shows your current memory, the pack's minimum and the suggested amount for your system. You can click OK to open instructions or Cancel to ignore the warning.[2]

howtolink.howtolink is the page that OK opens. In this pack it points to a guide on allocating more RAM.[2]

Tip: If you see the low-memory warning, raise your launcher's RAM allocation toward the recommended figure for your system rather than disabling the warning. The pack sets the client minimum at 6,000 MB.[2]

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as memorysettings, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
