What is Crafting Tweaks?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Crafting Tweaks is a small quality-of-life mod that makes crafting grids a lot less fiddly. It adds buttons to crafting tables so you can rotate, balance or clear the grid with a single click. That saves you from dragging items around slot by slot.[1]

This pack includes Crafting Tweaks version 21.1.5. It isn't limited to the vanilla table either: it supports many modded crafting tables, so the same buttons turn up in plenty of the crafting screens you'll use.[1][2]

What it lets you do

  • Rotate the outer ring of the crafting grid, which is handy when a recipe needs the same pattern turned around.[1]
  • Balance the materials in the grid so every slot has an even stack size. Hold Shift on the balance button to spread a single stack across the entire grid.[1]
  • Clear the whole crafting grid back into your inventory in one go.[1]
  • Hold the W key while clicking items to move them into the grid, or use Shift+W to move every item of that type.[1]
  • Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack at once.[1]
  • Use a keybind to compress items into their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe, or to decompress blocks back into their ingot forms.[1]

Who it's for

If you do a lot of hand crafting, and in a big modded pack you will, this mod is for you. It adds shortcuts to crafting screens you already use, so there's nothing extra to build before you can start using it.[1]

Tip: Crafting Tweaks is bi-optional. It works on your side even if a server doesn't have it installed, and it needs the Balm library installed alongside it to run.[1]

How do you get started with Crafting Tweaks?

2 parts

Crafting Tweaks is a quality-of-life mod, so there's no item to build first. You just open a crafting grid and start using the buttons it adds. They rotate, balance or clear the grid, and they work on many supported crafting tables, including modded ones.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Open a supported crafting table and look for the new buttons next to the grid. They let you rotate the outer circle of the grid, balance the materials to even stack sizes, or clear the grid into your inventory.[1]
  2. Try the balance button with a single stack. Hold shift while using it and the stack gets spread across the whole grid.[1]
  3. Use the clear button to tidy up. Its tooltip says it drops items if necessary, so keep an eye on your inventory space.[3]
  4. Hold the W key while clicking items to move them into the grid. Shift+W transfers every item of that type.[1]
  5. Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack. The config tooltip says this only happens if the option is set to true, and I can't confirm this pack's setting.[1][3]
  6. Use the compress keybind to turn blocks or ingots into their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe form, or back again, with one key press.[1]

Buttons, hotkeys or both

The client config has a mode option. DEFAULT enables both buttons and hotkeys, BUTTONS enables buttons only, HOTKEYS enables hotkeys only, and DISABLED turns the mod's features off completely. If the buttons clutter your screen, this is the place to change that.[3]

There's also an option to hide Vanilla's crafting book button instead of moving it. If you'd rather have that button gone, switch it on.[3]

Tip: The compress key only works inside crafting GUIs by default. The config can allow it outside them, but that only works if the mod is installed on the server and you're in your player inventory.[3]

The mod needs Balm installed alongside it. It's also optional on a server: it still works for players who have it installed, even if the server doesn't.[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm any in-pack recipes or quests for this mod, so there's no craft-this-first step to point you to. I also couldn't confirm this pack's config values, such as which mode is active.

How does Crafting Tweaks work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide

Crafting Tweaks is all about making the crafting grid faster to use. Instead of dragging items around one slot at a time, you get buttons on many supported crafting tables that rotate, balance or clear the grid with a single press, plus a few handy shortcuts on top.[1]

The grid buttons

Once the mod is running, supported crafting tables, including many modded ones, show a small set of extra buttons next to the grid. Each one does one job:[1]

  • Rotate moves the items around the outer circle of the crafting grid. It's great for fixing a recipe you placed in the wrong orientation.[1]
  • Balance evens out the materials in the grid so every occupied slot ends up with an even stack size.[1]
  • Holding shift while you press the balance button spreads a single stack across the entire grid instead.[1]
  • Clear empties the crafting grid back into your inventory.[1]

There's also a force clear action that will drop items if it has to, so keep that in mind if your inventory is full when you use it.[4]

Shortcuts and keybinds

Beyond the buttons, the mod adds a few quality-of-life controls that speed up bulk crafting quite a bit.[1]

  • Hold the W key while clicking items to transfer them into the grid. Use Shift+W to transfer every item of that type.[1]
  • Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack in one go. The mod's settings include an option that controls whether right-clicking the result slot in a crafting table crafts a full stack.[1][4]
  • A compress keybind instantly turns items into their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe result, and it can also decompress them again, for example turning ingots into blocks and back.[1]

How compressing works

Compressing uses the item's 3x3 or 2x2 crafting recipe, so it only does what a normal craft could do, just much faster. The mod has a denylist of modid:name entries that the compress key will never craft, which lets specific items be excluded.[1][4]

By default, compressing is tied to crafting screens. The mod has a setting that lets (de)compressing work outside crafting GUIs, but that only works in your player inventory, and only when Crafting Tweaks is also installed on the server.[4]

Client and server

Crafting Tweaks is bi-optional. Only the players who want it need it installed, and it still works for them even if the server doesn't have it. It requires Balm, which has to be installed alongside it.[1]

Tip: Out-of-inventory compressing is the one feature that depends on the server also having the mod, so if that feature isn't working for you, check whether the server has it installed.[1][4]

Controlling how it behaves

The client settings let you choose how the mod shows up. Its mode can be set to DEFAULT for both buttons and hotkeys, BUTTONS for buttons only, HOTKEYS for hotkeys only, or DISABLED to turn it off completely. You can also add mod ids to a list to disable Crafting Tweaks support for those mods.[4]

There's also an option to hide the vanilla crafting book button instead of just moving it out of the way, which is handy if you rely on JEI for recipe lookups anyway.[4]

Unverified This pack doesn't ship config files for Crafting Tweaks, so which of these options are turned on or changed in the pack couldn't be confirmed. Check the mod's settings in-game if something behaves differently than described here.

Which Crafting Tweaks config options matter?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide

Here's the short version: this pack ships Crafting Tweaks without any config files, so there are no pack-side values to tune or compare against mod defaults. Everything the mod does is available out of the box.[1]

That means the settings you'll actually adjust live in your controls, not in a config screen. The mod's features are driven by buttons on supported crafting tables and by keybinds, so bind them to whatever feels comfortable and you're done.[1]

What you can control

  • Buttons on supported crafting tables let you rotate the outer ring of the grid, balance the materials into even stack sizes, or clear the whole grid back into your inventory.[1]
  • Holding shift while clicking the balance button spreads a single stack across the entire grid instead.[1]
  • A keybind compresses and decompresses items into their block or ingot forms using the 3x3 or 2x2 recipe.[1]
  • Holding the W key while clicking an item transfers it into the grid, and Shift+W transfers everything of that type.[1]
  • Right-clicking the result slot crafts a full stack in one go.[1]
Tip: Crafting Tweaks is bi-optional, so it works client-side even when the server doesn't have it installed, and other players on the server aren't affected if they don't want it.[1]

One dependency note worth knowing: the mod needs Balm installed alongside it, so don't remove Balm if you're trimming the pack down.[1]
