Chroma Carvings in All the Mons

This pack ships Chroma Carvings at version 1.21.1-0.2.0, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack since version 4.11 or earlier, so it is a long-standing inclusion rather than a recent addition.^[1]

I can't tell you what the mod adds from the pack files I have, so I'm not going to guess at its blocks, items or mechanics here. This guide only covers what the pack data confirms.^[1]

Chroma Carvings is all about colored pumpkins, and in this pack everything is made with plain crafting. The mod has colored pumpkins, colored carved pumpkins and colored jack o'lanterns. The recipe dump shows 48 shapeless crafting recipes for it, and each one makes a different item.^[2][3]

I'll use blue as the example. Many of the other colors in the recipe list follow the same pattern, so swap in your favorite.^[2]

Color a plain pumpkin

Start with the Blue Pumpkin. This recipe takes any pumpkin from the normal pumpkins group, so you aren't tied to one specific pumpkin item.^[2]

Color a carved pumpkin

Next is the Blue Carved Pumpkin. Its dye recipe accepts any pumpkin from the carved pumpkins group, so you can dye a carved pumpkin you already have.^[2]

Make a colored jack o'lantern

The Blue Jack o'Lantern can be made in more than one way in this pack. The first route starts from the matching colored carved pumpkin.^[2]

The other route recolors a jack o'lantern you already have. It accepts any pumpkin from the jack o'lanterns group.^[2]

Good news and a heads-up. Chroma Carvings is a very simple mod: the sources show no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to learn. In this pack the sources show only coloured pumpkin blocks, coloured jack o'lanterns, coloured snow golem entities and the crafting recipes that link them. So the mechanics here are all about the crafting chain.^[2][3]

What the mod adds

Each colour comes as a plain pumpkin, a carved pumpkin and a jack o'lantern. For example, blue gives you Blue Pumpkin, Blue Carved Pumpkin and Blue Jack o'Lantern. The mod also has a matching snow golem entity for each colour.^[3]

The dye chain

Everything shown is shapeless crafting, so there is no fixed layout to remember. Combine a dye with a pumpkin and you get the coloured version of that pumpkin type. Blue is shown below, and the other colours follow the same pattern.^[2]

The pumpkin ingredient in these recipes is a tag, either normal pumpkins or carved pumpkins, rather than one specific block.^[2]

Ways to a coloured jack o'lantern

One way is to craft a coloured carved pumpkin together with a torch.^[2]

Another way is to dye a jack o'lantern you already have. That recipe takes a dye and any item from the jack o'lantern tag, so it works as a way to recolour one.^[2]

How many recipes are there?

• 48 shapeless recipes take ingredients from shared tags (the dye and pumpkin tags) and make this mod's blocks, each with a different result.^[2]
• 16 shapeless recipes take one of this mod's items plus a vanilla item and make this mod's items, each with a different result. The ones written out in the dump combine a coloured carved pumpkin with a torch.^[2]
• The recipes written out in the dump are marked as mod recipes, so the sources show no pack changes to them.^[2]

Snow golems

The mod defines a snow golem entity for each colour, such as the Black Snow Golem and the Yellow Snow Golem.^[3]

Unverified How the coloured snow golems are built, what they drop and how they differ from the vanilla snow golem is not shown by the sources here, and the mod has no in-jar guidebook or config files in this pack to check.

Chroma Carvings has no power tiers to climb in this pack. What you get is a short ladder of forms: coloured pumpkins, coloured carved pumpkins and coloured jack o'lanterns, each tied to a dye colour. Every in-pack recipe for the mod is a shapeless crafting recipe, so you only need a crafting grid to work through all of it.^[4]

First: colour a plain pumpkin

The first rung is the coloured version of a normal pumpkin, such as Orange Pumpkin. You make it with a dye of the matching colour. The same pattern exists for each dye colour, from Black Pumpkin through to Yellow Pumpkin.^[4]

Next: colour a carved pumpkin

Carved pumpkins work the same way, except the dye is combined with a carved pumpkin instead. That gives you something like Orange Carved Pumpkin or Blue Carved Pumpkin.^[4]

Last: light it up as a jack o'lantern

The last rung is the coloured jack o'lantern, for example Orange Jack o'Lantern. This pack gives you a choice of routes. You can turn a coloured carved pumpkin into a jack o'lantern with a torch, or you can use a dye on a jack o'lantern directly.^[4]
