What is Akashic Tome?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Akashic Tome is the "book of books". In a big pack, nearly every mod ships its own documentation book, and they quickly clog your inventory. This mod lets you keep them all in a single slot and swap between them whenever you need one.[1]

The pack includes version 1.8-30 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 2.25 or earlier. The only item it adds is the Akashic Tome itself. It pairs with Morph-o-Tool.[1][2]

Who it's for

It's for anyone who is tired of juggling guidebooks. If you like to look things up in-game while you build and explore, the Tome keeps your hotbar and inventory tidy.[1]

How it works

  • To store a book, combine it with the Tome in a crafting table. You can add as many books as you like, duplicates included.[1]
  • You get the real item from the other mod, not an imitation or a container, so it works exactly like the original book.[1]
  • Right-click the Tome and pick a book from the menu to transform it into that book.[1]
  • Sneak-right-click a modded block to turn the Tome into that mod's book, if you have one stored. If you have several books from the same mod, you get the first one you added.[1]
  • To turn back into the Tome, punch the air.[1]
  • To remove a stored book, transform the Tome into that book, then sneak and press your drop key.[1]
Watch out: You can use a transformed Tome as a crafting ingredient, but you'll lose all the other books attached to it. It's best not to.[1]

Configuration

The mod's config lets you allow every item to be attached, which is off by default. It also has a blacklist for mods, name and item whitelists for what counts as a book, and an alias list that redirects one mod's blocks to another mod's book. These are the mod's general options. The sources don't show whether this pack changes any of them.[1]

Unverified The mod's own description says the Tome is crafted from a Book and a Bookshelf, but the sources don't confirm the recipe used in this pack. The sources also don't show any quests or ATM Star path involvement for this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found.

How do you get started with Akashic Tome?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

The Akashic Tome is the only item this mod adds, so your first steps are simple. It's made for big modpacks where nearly every mod has its own documentation book. Instead of filling your inventory with them, you keep them all in one slot and swap between them.[1]

Craft the Akashic Tome

Make Akashic Tome first, since everything else depends on it. In this pack it uses the mod's own recipe, shown below.[3]

Recipe id: akashictome:tome

This is a shapeless recipe, so the layout in the crafting grid doesn't matter.

Add your documentation books

  1. Get a documentation book from another mod. The mod's config has a whitelist of name fragments (like book, tome and lexicon) and a blacklist of mods, which control what can be attached.[1]
  2. Combine the book with the Tome in a crafting table. You can add as many books as you like, duplicates included.[1]
  3. You get the real item from the other mod, not an imitation, so it works exactly as that book normally does.[1]

Use the books

  • Right click the Tome and pick the book you want from the menu. The Tome transforms into that book.[1]
  • Sneak and right click a modded block to turn the Tome into that mod's book, if you've stored one. If you have several books from the same mod, you get the first one you added.[1]
  • To turn it back into the Tome, punch the air.[1]
  • To remove a stored book, transform the Tome into that book, then sneak and press your drop key.[1]
Watch out: You can use a transformed Tome as a crafting ingredient, but you probably shouldn't, because you'd lose all the other attached items.[1]

How does Akashic Tome work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Good news: there's very little to learn here. The only item this mod adds is the Akashic Tome, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to set up. Everything below is how the Tome itself works.[1]

Crafting the Tome

In this pack the Tome is a shapeless crafting recipe that uses a book and any block in the bookshelves tag.[3]

Recipe id: akashictome:tome

Why it exists

In big modpacks, nearly every mod adds its own documentation book. The Tome lets you keep them all in a single slot and swap between them as needed, instead of filling your inventory.[1]

Adding and using books

  1. To store a book, combine it with the Tome in a crafting table. You can add as many books as you like, including duplicates.[1]
  2. To switch to a stored book, right click with the Tome and pick the book you want from the menu.[1]
  3. To switch quickly, sneak-right click a modded block. The Tome transforms into that mod's documentation book if it has one stored. If you have several books from the same mod, you get the first one you added.[1]
  4. To turn back into the Tome, punch the air.[1]
  5. To remove a stored book, transform the Tome into that book, then sneak and press your drop key.[1]

How it works under the hood

When the Tome transforms, you hold the actual item from the other mod, not an emulated item or a container. The game keeps some NBT data on that item so it knows how to change it back to the Tome.[1]

Watch out: You can use a transformed Tome as a crafting ingredient, but you probably shouldn't. You'll lose all the other books attached to it.[1]

Configuration

The mod's config can allow every item to be attached (off by default), blacklist mods, whitelist item names or specific items that may be attached, and set up aliases that redirect one mod to another. An alias lets a block from one mod pick the book of a different mod.[1]

Unverified No config files for this mod were found in the pack, so the actual blacklist, whitelist and alias values used here are unconfirmed. Which books the Tome accepts in this pack is unverified.

How do you progress through Akashic Tome?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

The Akashic Tome is a one-step item in this pack. The recipe dump shows a single recipe that makes it, so there is no chain of crafting stages to work through.[3]

The recipe is shapeless, so you can place the ingredients anywhere in the crafting grid. It takes a book and any item from the bookshelves tag.[3]

This is the pack's only recipe that makes the Akashic Tome: a shapeless craft with a book and any bookshelf from the tag.

What changed in Akashic Tome between versions?

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships with Akashic Tome 1.8-30. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so it's one of the long-standing members of the mod list.[4]

Unverified The mod's own releases 1.8-29 and 1.8-30 both have changelogs, but the notes available here don't list what changed in them, so I can't tell you what is new in 1.8-30 compared with 1.8-29. The pack changelogs also have no entries for this mod, so no pack-specific changes to Akashic Tome are recorded.
