What is Xenon?

1 part

Xenon is a performance mod. It is a fork of Embeddium, the Forge port of the Sodium performance mod, with improvements, extra options and new maintainers. Currently, it includes all the extras from the Embeddium Extras mod, plus Reese's vertical video settings, which the extra options need.[1]

This pack ships Xenon 0.3.31 (the xenon-0.3.31+mc1.20.1.jar file). It was first included in pack version 0.0.49.2 or earlier.[2]

What to know about compatibility

  • Xenon is intended to be a replacement for Embeddium on 1.20.1, and the project page says it will stay Forge only.[1]
  • Because it is a fork, it should work with everything Embeddium does. The maintainers aim to stay compatible with upstream and with Embeddium and Forge Sodium addons.[1]
  • OptiFine is not supported. Xenon replaces it.[1]
  • For now, the project page says to keep using Oculus if you want shader support. If shaders cause problems, disable Oculus first, and if that fixes it, report the issue to the Oculus team.[1]
Watch out: Xenon is not supported by CaffeineMC or embeddedt, so don't report Xenon issues to their bug tracker or Discord. Use the Xenon GitHub or the maintainer's Discord instead.[1]

How do you get started with Xenon?

2 parts

Xenon is a performance mod, so this section has no crafting order to follow. Currently, the project page describes it as a fork of Embeddium, the Forge port of the Sodium performance mod, with improvements, extra options and new maintainers.[1]

What to know first

  • Currently, Xenon includes the extra improvements from the Embeddium Extras mod, plus Reese's vertical video settings, which the extra options require.[1]
  • Currently, it is meant as a replacement for Embeddium that is not hostile to upstream Sodium, and it stays Forge only.[1]
  • For now, OptiFine is not supported. Xenon replaces it, so don't add OptiFine next to it.[1]
  • Xenon should work with everything Embeddium works with, and the maintainers aim to stay compatible with upstream and Embeddium or Forge Sodium addons.[1]

Shaders

For now, the mod's page says to keep using Oculus if you want shader support. If you hit issues with shaders installed, disable Oculus first. If that fixes it, report the problem to the Oculus team instead of Xenon's.[1]

Watch out: As far as the project page says right now, Xenon is not supported by CaffeineMC or embeddedt. Don't report Xenon problems to their bug tracker or Discord. Use Xenon's own GitHub or the maintainer's Discord server.[1]

Unverified No in-pack recipes, quests or config files for Xenon could be confirmed, so there are no first items to craft and no pack-specific settings to list here.

How does Xenon work?

2 parts

Xenon is a performance mod, so this section has no machines, multiblocks, power networks, fluid handling or item automation to cover. Currently, the project page describes it as a fork of Embeddium (the Forge port of the Sodium performance mod) with improvements, extra options and new maintainers.[1]

What Xenon includes

  • Currently, all the extra improvements from the Embeddium Extras mod are included.[1]
  • Currently, Reese's vertical video settings are included too, and the project page says they are required for the extra options.[1]
  • Currently, the project page presents it as a replacement for Embeddium on 1.20.1 that is not hostile to upstream Sodium, and it says the mod will stay Forge only.[1]

Compatibility and shaders

Currently, the project page says Xenon will work with everything Embeddium does, as it is a fork. The maintainers also intend to keep compatibility with upstream and with Embeddium and Forge Sodium addons as much as possible.[1]

Watch out: Currently, the project page says OptiFine is not supported and that Xenon replaces OptiFine, so don't run them side by side.[1]

For now, the project page says to keep using Oculus if you want shader support. If you hit problems with shaders installed, disable Oculus first. If that fixes it, report the issue to the Oculus team instead of Xenon.[1]

Tip: Currently, the project page says Xenon is not supported by CaffeineMC or embeddedt, so don't report Xenon issues to their bug trackers or Discord. Use the Xenon GitHub or the maintainer's Discord server instead.[1]

What changed in Xenon between versions?

Xenon's version history in this pack is short. The pack ships Xenon 0.3.31 (the file xenon-0.3.31+mc1.20.1.jar) in Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2.[2]

The mod's own changelog for 0.3.31 has a single entry: it fixes an issue with joining servers. That matters if you play multiplayer.[3]

Xenon was first included in Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.49.2 or earlier, so it has been in the pack for a while. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so I can't point to a specific pack release that changed it.[2]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as xenon, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
