How does Just Another Mining Dimension work?

4 parts

Same as in the Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 guide

The parts of this mod that the sources show are the portal blocks and the dimensions they lead to: Mining Portal, Nether Mining Portal and End Mining Portal. The dimension biomes are named Mining, Nether Mining and End Mining.[1]

Crafting the portals

Each portal block has its own shaped crafting recipe in this pack. Here they are, one after another.[2]

The three dimensions

The pack ships its own data files for each dimension type. The Mining, Nether Mining and End Mining types have no ceiling, no raids and a height of 384 blocks starting at Y -64. Monsters spawn at a light level between 0 and 7, and each type has a fixed time of day.[3][4][5]

  • Mining: uses the overworld look, has skylight, is flagged natural and beds work here. The time is fixed at 6000. Respawn anchors do not work.[4]
  • Nether Mining: uses the Nether look and the time is fixed at 18000. Beds do not work, but respawn anchors do. It is also flagged ultrawarm.[5]
  • End Mining: uses the End look, has no skylight and the time is fixed at 6000. Neither beds nor respawn anchors work here.[3]
Watch out: Beds only work in the Mining dimension. In Nether Mining you need a respawn anchor instead, and in End Mining neither works.[3][4][5]

What the ground is made of

Each dimension is built from flat layers, with a 2-block layer of bedrock at the bottom.[6][7][8]

  • Mining: 156 blocks of deepslate, then 156 of stone, then 4 of dirt and 2 of grass block on top.[7]
  • Nether Mining: 318 blocks of netherrack above the bedrock. Lakes are off and features are on.[8]
  • End Mining: 318 blocks of end stone above the bedrock. Lakes are off and features are on.[6]

Ore generation

What spawns in the ground is set in config files. For End Mining that is config/jamd/end.json, where oreMultiplier is 1 in this pack and ores holds the list of ore entries. Each entry names the blocks to place, which blocks they can replace, an ore size and placement rules such as count, rarity and a height range.[9]

For example, the lead entry has an ore size of 24, a count of 3, and a height range from -64 to 56. The halite entry uses an ore size of 15, a count of 10, a rarity filter of 3, and a height range from 5 to 80.[9]

Unverified The ore settings for the Mining and Nether Mining dimensions live in config/jamd/mining.json and config/jamd/nether.json. Those files were not included in the sources here, so their values are not shown.

Which Just Another Mining Dimension config options matter?

4 parts

Same as in the Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 guide

The one config file I can show you in full for this mod is config/jamd/end.json. It holds the pack's End ore generation settings, so it's the place to look when you want to know what you can mine there and how common it is.[9]

The global multiplier

oreMultiplier is set to 1 in this pack.[9]

The ore list

Everything else lives in ores. Each entry has an ore size, a count or rarity filter, and a height range. Here are the pack's values for the entries you're most likely to care about.[9]

  • Uranium: ore size 24, a rarity filter of 2, and a trapezoid height range from -64 to 16.[9]
  • Lead, silver and nickel: ore size 24, a count of 3 each, with a trapezoid from -64 up to height 56.[9]
  • Osmium: ore size 24, a count of 3, trapezoid from -64 to 36.[9]
  • Platinum: ore size 24, a count of only 1, trapezoid from -64 to 36.[9]
  • Tin: ore size 24, a count of 4, trapezoid from -64 to 196. Aluminum has the same count of 4 but reaches up to 320.[9]
  • Ender Draconium Ore: ore size 8, a count of 3, uniform height from 0 to 70.[9]
  • End Inferium Ore: ore size 8, a count of 16, uniform height from 10 to 100. End Prosperity Ore uses the same size and height but a count of 12.[9]
  • End Dimensional Ore: ore size 12, a count of 20, uniform height from 0 to 128.[9]
  • Dimensional Shard Ore: ore size 10, a count of 8, uniform height from 2 to 80.[9]
  • Azure Silver Ore: ore size 6, a count of 8, uniform height from 16 to 92.[9]

Gems and End-specific blocks

Several Silent Gems End ores are configured with a count of 0 and an ore size of 0, including Ruby End Ore and Peridot End Ore. A few others do have real settings: Turquoise End Ore and Rose Quartz End Ore use ore size 9 and a count of 2 between heights 16 and 72, and White Diamond End Ore uses ore size 8 and a count of 3 between -10 and 60.[9]

The End's own blocks are in there too. Ancient Stone has ore size 25 and a count of 25 between heights 5 and 80, and Halite has ore size 15, a count of 10 and a rarity filter of 3 over the same heights.[9]

Other files

Unverified The mod also has config/jamd/nether.json and config/jamd/mining.json. Their settings are defined in those files, and the sources here do not show their values, so I'm not quoting any of them.
