What is Applied Enhancements?
Applied Enhancements is included in this pack as version 1.0.7 for Forge (the file is appliedenhancements-1.0.7-forge.jar). It was already in the pack by version 0.0.51.4 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
I can't tell you more about what the mod adds from the sources I have for this pack, so I'm not going to guess at items, recipes or mechanics here. Check the other sections of this guide for anything confirmed in the pack's own files.[1]
How do you get started with Applied Enhancements?
3 parts
Applied Enhancements builds on AE2's autocrafting, so your first steps are about setting up how crafting plans behave and finding the new screen tools, not about crafting a new item. The sources I have for this pack list no recipes and no quests for this mod, so I can't point you to a first item to craft.[2][3]
Unverified Which Applied Enhancements items you should craft first, and in what order, is not confirmed by the available sources for this pack.
What the pack turns on for you
The pack ships with a few settings changed from the mod's defaults, and you'll notice them as soon as you start a craft in your ME network.[3]
- crafting.enable_enhanced_material_calculation is on in this pack (the default is off). The crafting preview shows accurate missing, stored and crafting item counts.[3]
- crafting.enable_progress_display is on in this pack (the default is off). It shows crafting calculation progress and which planner path was selected.[3]
- crafting.max_crafting_order_amount is raised to 9,223,372,036,854,776,000 in this pack. The default is 2,147,483,647, and anything above that uses long-range crafting, which is enabled via crafting.enable_long_range_crafting.[3]
- storage.infinite.enable_listing_limit_bypass is on in this pack (the default is off). Infinite-cell network listings are raised to Long.MAX_VALUE and shown as 9.2E.[3]
Reading the crafting screen
With the progress display on, the calculation shows which planner is working: AE2, AE2-FB, AELIS or External. The phases are short labels such as Prep, Queue, Plan, Comp, Exec and Done. The finished plan title also shows the path used.[2][3]
The AELIS planner is not hooked into AE2's native planner automatically here, because crafting.aelis.enable_automatic_planner is false in this pack. Diagnostics are also off, since crafting.aelis.enable_diagnostics produces a large amount of log output.[2][3]
Handy tools to try
- Pattern screens get a Dup button that shows only patterns with the same primary output, and a Bad button that shows encoded patterns that can no longer be resolved.[2]
- A Move button on pattern screens enters multi-select mode, with Cut and Paste options for moving patterns between machine groups.[2]
- The item menu offers Extract One, Extract Stack, a custom amount, Copy Item ID and Start Craft. The JEI version adds Craft in ME and Search in ME.[2]
- You can bind keys for the Item Actions Menu and the Pattern Quick Move Menu under the Applied Enhancements key category.[2]
How does Applied Enhancements work?
8 parts
The sources for this mod describe how it changes AE2's autocrafting, pattern handling and inventory scanning. They don't describe any machines or multiblocks, so this section sticks to what the language file and the pack's config file actually show.[2][3]
The crafting planner and AELIS
When you ask your ME network for a craft, the plan can be worked out by different engines. The progress display names them: AE2, AE2-FB (AE2's fallback path), AELIS and External, plus a Detect step while the engine is being chosen. The finished Craft Plan screen also shows which path produced the plan.[2]
AELIS is the mod's own planner. In this pack, crafting.aelis.enable_automatic_planner is false. That means AELIS is not switched on automatically inside AE2's native planner. The config notes that calls from third-party mods are not affected by this setting, and that manual crafting-plan inventory reservations only work while it is enabled.[3]
Each AELIS attempt has a time limit and a size limit. crafting.aelis.compile_budget_ms caps the time spent analyzing the crafting tree before execution, and the pack sets it to 2,000 milliseconds. crafting.aelis.max_nodes caps the nodes analyzed per attempt at 100,000. Higher values handle more complex recipes but use more memory.[3]
Cyclic recipes
The planner can solve crafts that loop back on themselves, and the result screen shows a Cyclic Craft amount when that happens. The cycle solver has several limits in the config. A single global or local cyclic solve may use up to 1,000 milliseconds (crafting.aelis.cycle_solver.budget_ms). One strongly connected component may contain up to 256 material nodes (crafting.aelis.cycle_solver.max_scc_nodes). Components with several candidates may search up to 1,000,000 branch states (crafting.aelis.cycle_solver.max_search_states).[2][3]
crafting.aelis.cycle_solver.seed_policy decides what happens to the cycle's startup materials once the cycle schedule finishes. The pack uses PRESERVE_MINIMUM, which keeps the minimum seed vector for your next order. MAX_THROUGHPUT would let the current order consume every cycle material instead.[3]
Huge orders and safety limits
crafting.enable_long_range_crafting is on, so orders can go above Integer.MAX_VALUE (2,147,483,647), up to Long.MAX_VALUE. The pack also changes crafting.max_crafting_order_amount. The mod default is 2,147,483,647, but the pack's file sets it to 9,223,372,036,854,776,000, within an allowed range of 1 to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.[3]
Even with those limits, some requests are refused. The game can tell you that the amount exceeds the server limit, that long-range crafting is disabled on the server, or that a request was rejected because the recipe would overflow AE2's native 64-bit planner. Another message appears when a request needs AE2's per-item ordered recipe planner and goes over the safe native limit. The fix it suggests is to reduce the amount or simplify that item's recipe choices.[2]
Infinite cells
storage.infinite.enable_listing_limit_bypass is true in the pack, while the mod's default is false. It raises infinite-cell network listings to Long.MAX_VALUE and shows them as 9.2E. Turning it off keeps the amount the original cell implementation reports. The config also warns that Long.MAX_VALUE can leave AE2's native planner no arithmetic headroom, which ties in with the overflow rejections above.[3]
Crafting preview and progress display
The pack turns on crafting.enable_enhanced_material_calculation, which shows accurate missing, stored and to-be-crafted item counts in the crafting preview. The mod default is false. It also turns on crafting.enable_progress_display, again changed from a default of false, which shows calculation progress and the selected planner path.[3]
The progress bar walks through short phase labels: Queue, Wait, Prep, Calc, Comp, Exec, Plan, then Done. It can also end in Failed or Cancel.[2]
Pattern management tools
The mod adds several helpers to pattern terminals. The Dup button filters the list to patterns that share the same primary output. It also lists which source machines they come from. The Bad button shows only encoded patterns that can no longer be resolved.[2]
Quick pattern move lets you select several patterns and cut or paste them. You can also cut every pattern in a machine group, or paste into one. In multi-select mode you drag to replace the selection, click to toggle, and right-click for a menu. A batch move can fail for several reasons, and the game tells you which: the source and target are the same machine, the target lacks space or rejects a pattern, a source pattern changed, or the terminal or target is no longer valid. If the commit itself fails, inventories are restored.[2]
Item menus
Network item menus offer Extract One, Extract Stack, a custom amount prompt, Copy Item ID and Start Craft. In JEI there are matching entries such as Craft in ME, Search in ME, Extract One from ME and Extract Stack from ME. There are also Give One and Give Stack, Copy Name, and Show Recipes or Show Uses. Keybinds exist for the item actions menu and the pattern quick move menu.[2]
Performance options
- performance.pattern_cache.enabled is on. It caches pattern input validation and container-return lookups, which the config says significantly improves large crafting calculations. performance.pattern_cache.max_entries_per_pattern keeps up to 32 entries per pattern.[3]
- performance.io_bus.enable_slot_routing is on. AE2 I/O buses reuse validated source and target slot hints, and incomplete operations fall back to AE2's original slot routing.[3]
- performance.storage_bus.enable_slot_index is on. Candidate slots are indexed during AE2's existing external-inventory scan. Cached slots are revalidated, and incomplete results fall back to AE2's full scan.[3]
Which Applied Enhancements config options matter?
4 parts
Everything here lives in config/appliedenhancements-common.toml. Most options sit at the mod default, and the ones this pack changed are listed first, since those are the ones you'll notice in play.[3]
Values the pack changed from the default
- crafting.max_crafting_order_amount is set to 9,223,372,036,854,776,000 in this pack. The mod default is Integer.MAX_VALUE (2,147,483,647). Orders above that size use the long-range crafting path, and the option's allowed range tops out at 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.[3]
- crafting.enable_enhanced_material_calculation is true here (default false). The crafting preview shows accurate missing, stored and crafting item counts.[3]
- crafting.enable_progress_display is true here (default false). It shows the crafting calculation progress and the planner path that was selected.[3]
- storage.infinite.enable_listing_limit_bypass is true here (default false). Infinite-cell network listings are raised to Long.MAX_VALUE and displayed as 9.2E.[3]
Crafting options left at default
crafting.enable_long_range_crafting is true, which is also the default. It allows crafting orders above Integer.MAX_VALUE, up to Long.MAX_VALUE.[3]
crafting.aelis.enable_automatic_planner is false, the default, so AELIS is not automatically used in AE2's native planner. Third-party API calls are not affected by this setting, and manual crafting-plan inventory reservations are only active while it is enabled.[3]
crafting.aelis.enable_diagnostics is also false. Only switch it on when you are debugging, because it produces a large amount of log output.[3]
AELIS limits
The AELIS limits all match the mod defaults in this pack. If you tune them, these are the values you are starting from.[3]
- crafting.aelis.compile_budget_ms: 2,000 ms per attempt (range 100 to 30,000), which caps the time spent analyzing the crafting tree before execution.[3]
- crafting.aelis.max_nodes: 100,000 (range 1,000 to 1,000,000). Higher values allow more complex recipes but use more memory.[3]
- crafting.aelis.cycle_solver.budget_ms: 1,000 ms for one global or local cyclic solve (range 10 to 5,000).[3]
- crafting.aelis.cycle_solver.max_scc_nodes: 256 material nodes per strongly connected component (range 4 to 1,024).[3]
- crafting.aelis.cycle_solver.max_search_states: 1,000,000 branch-search states (range 1,000 to 10,000,000).[3]
- crafting.aelis.cycle_solver.seed_policy: PRESERVE_MINIMUM, which keeps the minimum seed vector for the next order. The alternative, MAX_THROUGHPUT, lets the current order consume every cycle material.[3]
Performance options
The performance options are all enabled, as in the mod defaults. performance.pattern_cache.enabled caches pattern input validation and container-return lookups, and the file says it significantly improves large crafting calculations. performance.pattern_cache.max_entries_per_pattern keeps up to 32 entries per pattern (range 8 to 256).[3]
performance.io_bus.enable_slot_routing and performance.storage_bus.enable_slot_index are also on. Both reuse or index slot information to speed up AE2's buses, and both fall back to AE2's original behaviour when results are incomplete.[3]
