What is Synesthesia: Sound Visualizer?

This pack includes Synesthesia: Sound Visualizer, version 1.1.0. It ships as the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1 (synesthesia-1.21.1-NeoForge-1.1.0.jar). The mod was already in the pack by this version, and the pack files don't show exactly when it was first added.[1]

Unverified The pack files I have only list that the mod is installed. They don't describe its features, settings, recipes, or who it's best suited for. I also can't confirm where it fits in the pack's progression, or whether it connects to any quests or the ATM Star path. I'd rather leave those out than guess.

How do you get started with Synesthesia: Sound Visualizer?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 guide

Getting started with Synesthesia is quick. The language file shows a key binding category called "Synesthesia", and inside it a binding named "Toggle Sound Visualizer". That binding is how you control the mod in this pack.[2]

Turn the visualizer on and off

  1. Open your controls screen and find the "Toggle Sound Visualizer" binding in the "Synesthesia" category. Make sure it is bound to a key you like.[2]
  2. Press that key in game. The message "Sound Visualizer Enabled" appears when it switches on.[2]
  3. Press the key again to switch it off. The message then reads "Sound Visualizer Disabled".[2]
Tip: The enabled and disabled messages tell you which state you are in. If you are not sure whether the visualizer is running, press the key and read the message.[2]

How does Synesthesia: Sound Visualizer work?

1 part

The sources for this mod in the pack cover a single setting, so this section is short. They don't explain any machines, multiblocks, or power, fluid and item handling for Synesthesia: Sound Visualizer.[3]

Rendering through walls

The option you can change is renderThroughWalls. When it's true, sound visualizations render through walls, which works by disabling depth testing. This pack sets it to true, so visualizations are drawn even when a solid block is between you and the sound.[3]

Tip: This option sits in the mod's client configuration file. If seeing visualizations through walls feels distracting, set it to false. Without it, depth testing stays on.[3]

Which Synesthesia: Sound Visualizer config options matter?

Synesthesia only has one config option that the pack's files show, and it's a handy one. It lives in the client config, so it only affects your own game and not the server.[3]

  • renderThroughWalls is set to true in this pack. When it's true, sound visualizations render through walls, which works by disabling depth testing. That means you can see where a sound is coming from even when a block is in the way.[3]
Tip: If you'd rather the visualizations stay hidden behind solid blocks, set renderThroughWalls to false in the client config file. This is the flip side of what the option description says: with it on, depth testing is disabled.[3]

Unverified I can't confirm the mod's own default for this option from the available sources, so I can't say whether the pack changed it. I also have no information on any other Synesthesia options.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as synesthesia, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
