What is PetRock?
3 parts
PetRock adds a pet that is, well, a rock. You order one, spawn it, tame it, look after it and customize it. It's a lighthearted companion mod, so it's for anyone who wants a pet in their base. This pack includes version 0.18.7.[1][2]
How it works
You start with an order form. The in-game guide says you fill it in automatically, and it gives you a PetRock in a box. Using that item spawns a new untamed PetRock where you click. You can also add legs to the PetRock while it's still in the box.[3][4]
To tame it, use Stoneium ingots. The guide says Stoneium spawns in the Overworld, and that Raw Stoneium drops from Stoneium Ore. The PetRock's face shows whether it is untamed, tamed, or tamed and sitting.[5][6]
Care and customization
Kibble heals a damaged PetRock and is also used for mating. The guide says other food items work for healing and mating too.[7]
For looks, right-click a tamed PetRock with the block type you want. Variants include Stone, Netherrack, End Stone, Deepslate, Diorite, Granite, Andesite and Clay, and each has a version with legs. Naming a PetRock "Squidgy" gives you the Squidgy variant. The Bedrock variant is creative only. PetRocks can also wear seasonal and birthday hats, such as Easter, Halloween and Christmas ones.[8][9]
Where it fits in the pack
Unverified The sources don't place PetRock in the pack's progression. It isn't on the ATM Star path and no quests in this pack involve it, so treat it as an optional, cosmetic companion mod rather than something you need to advance.
How do you get started with PetRock?
5 parts
PetRock is all about ordering, taming and caring for your own pet rock. The mod's in-game guide has a PetRock Care Guide that takes you from ordering one to looking after it, and the steps below follow the same path.[2]
Craft an Order Form
Everything starts with the Order Form. The mod's advancement says you craft it so you can get a PetRock, and the guide describes it as a form that fills itself in and gives you a PetRock in a box.[3][10]
Spawn your PetRock
The boxed PetRock spawns a new untamed PetRock where you click. Next up is taming it.[4]
Get Stoneium
Stoneium is what you use to tame a PetRock, and it is also used to craft Rock Kibble. It spawns in the Overworld, and Stoneium Ore drops Raw Stoneium. There is also a deepslate version, Deepslate Stoneium Ore.[5][10][11]
Cook the Raw Stoneium to turn it into Stoneium. The recipe dump has smelting and blasting recipes for the raw item and for both ores, so a furnace or a blast furnace works.[10][11]
If you want to store your Stoneium compactly, it can be crafted into a Stoneium Block and back again.[11]
Tame it and keep it healthy
Use the Stoneium ingots on your PetRock to tame it. After that, Rock Kibble heals a damaged PetRock and is also used for mating. Its tooltip says it is for PetRock consumption only.[5][7][10]
The pack adds its own Rock Kibble recipe on top of the mod's one. The mod's recipe uses Stoneium, while the pack's version is a separate recipe added by the pack.[11]
Shaped (kubejs)
Recipe id: ftb:petrock/kibble
This Rock Kibble recipe is added by the pack.
Optional extras
- Legs: you can add legs to the PetRock while it is still in the box. Craft Stone Legs and combine them with the boxed PetRock to get PetRock With Legs.[4][11]
- Variants: right-click a tamed PetRock with a block from the guide's list to change its look. The list includes Netherrack, End Stone, Deepslate, Diorite, Granite, Andesite and Clay.[8]
- Squidgy: you get this variant by naming a PetRock "Squidgy".[8]
How does PetRock work?
4 parts
PetRock is a pet mod, so this section is about the pet-care loop rather than machines. The sources describe a path from ordering a PetRock to taming, healing and customizing it.[2]
Ordering and spawning your PetRock
It starts with the Order Form. It's a form you fill in automatically, and it gives you a PetRock in a box. Crafting one is also the first step of the mod's advancement trail.[3][10]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: petrock:orderform
This is the in-pack recipe for the Order Form.
Use the boxed item and it spawns a new untamed PetRock right where you clicked.[4]
You can also add legs while the PetRock is still in the box. Combine the PetRock with Stone Legs to get a PetRock With Legs. The legs are only a crafting item.[4][10][11]
Stone Legs are used only for crafting.
A shapeless recipe that turns the boxed PetRock into the version with legs.
Taming with Stoneium
A freshly spawned PetRock is untamed, and you tame it with Stoneium ingots. Stoneium Ore generates in the Overworld and drops Raw Stoneium. There is also a deepslate version, Deepslate Stoneium Ore.[5][11]
Cook the raw Stoneium into Stoneium. Both smelting and blasting work, and the ores themselves can be cooked too.[10][11]
Smelting Raw Stoneium gives you Stoneium.
If you want to store Stoneium compactly, the pack has a Stoneium Block recipe, and the block can be turned back into ingots.[11]
Stoneium crafts into a Stoneium Block.
You can tell your pet's state by its face. The guide shows separate faces for an untamed PetRock, a tamed one, and a tamed one that's sitting down.[6]
Healing and feeding
Rock Kibble heals a damaged PetRock and is also used for mating. The guide says other food items work for the same purposes, but the list of those foods isn't included in the sources.[7][10]
The pack adds its own Kibble recipe alongside the mod's original one. Both are shown below.[11]
Shaped (kubejs)
Recipe id: ftb:petrock/kibble
This Kibble recipe is added by the pack.
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: petrock:kibble
This is the mod's own Kibble recipe.
Variants and hats
To change a tamed PetRock's look, right-click it with the block type you want. The variants are Stone, Netherrack, End Stone, Deepslate, Diorite, Granite, Andesite and Clay, and the same set exists for the version with legs.[8]
- Squidgy variant: name your PetRock "Squidgy".[8]
- Bedrock variant: creative only.[8]
- The "missingno" variant is described as impossible without cheats.[8]
The in-game guide also lists hats: Birthday, April Fools, Easter, Halloween and Christmas, plus birthday hats for Loneztars, Slowpokes and ActuallyBear.[9]
How do you progress through PetRock?
5 parts
The sources here show PetRock as a short chain of steps rather than a ladder of tiers: order a rock, tame it, feed it and customize it. Here's the order I'd follow.[3][4][5][11]
Step by step
- Craft an Order Form. It's a form you fill automatically, and it gives you a PetRock, which is a PetRock in a box.[3][11]
- Use the box to spawn a new untamed PetRock where you click. If you want legs, you can add them while the rock is still in the box, which gives you a PetRock With Legs.[4]
- Find Stoneium. It spawns in the Overworld, and Raw Stoneium drops from Stoneium Ore. A deepslate version, Deepslate Stoneium Ore, also exists.[5][11]
- Smelt or blast the ore, the deepslate ore or the raw Stoneium to get Stoneium.[11]
- Use the Stoneium ingots on the untamed PetRock to tame it.[5]
- Keep it healthy with Rock Kibble. It heals a damaged PetRock and is also used for mating.[7]
- Customize it. Right-click a tamed PetRock with the block type you want to switch its variant.[8]
The recipes you need
The Order Form is the starting point, so craft it first.[11]
To add legs, craft Stone Legs and combine them with a PetRock box to make the legged version.[4][11]
Stoneium and storage
If you gather a lot of Stoneium, you can compress it into a Stoneium Block and turn the block back into ingots later.[11]
Kibble in this pack
The pack adds its own Rock Kibble recipe alongside the mod's recipe, so both are available. The mod's version uses Stoneium, while the pack's version does not.[11]
Shaped (kubejs)
Recipe id: ftb:petrock/kibble
Added by the pack.
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: petrock:kibble
The mod's own recipe, which still exists in the pack.
Variants
The in-game guide lists Stone, Netherrack, End Stone, Deepslate, Diorite, Granite, Andesite and Clay variants. You can also get a Squidgy variant by naming a PetRock "Squidgy". The Bedrock variant is creative only.[8]
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest involving PetRock, so no quest chapter is described. The order above comes from the mod's in-game guide and the in-pack recipes. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does PetRock work with other mods?
2 parts
PetRock has only light crossovers with other mods in this pack. The recipes that connect it to other content are both about looking after your pet, and there are no quests that involve it.[11]
Rock Kibble, the pack's own recipe
Rock Kibble is crafted with a recipe the pack adds through KubeJS. That means the recipe comes from the pack and not from PetRock itself, so check the recipe below instead of assuming the mod's default. It uses Stone Pebble, an item from the pack's own content.[11]
Shaped (kubejs)
Recipe id: ftb:petrock/kibble
Added by the pack with KubeJS, not by PetRock.
Kibble is worth making. The in-game guide says it heals a damaged PetRock and is also used for mating.[7]
Stoneium and the Patchouli guide book
The other link is with Patchouli. A normal mod recipe turns a vanilla Book and Stoneium into a Guide Book. The recipe id is named after the PetRock care guide, and PetRock's in-game guide is a care guide that takes you from ordering a PetRock to looking after it.[2][11]
Stoneium is also the material the in-game guide points you to for taming. It says Stoneium spawns in the Overworld, that you tame a PetRock with the Stoneium ingots, and that raw Stoneium drops from Stoneium Ore.[5]
Unverified The sources here show no quests that involve PetRock, so any quest-based link to other mods is not confirmed. Check the pack's quest book for anything beyond the recipes above.
