What is Morph-o-Tool?
2 parts
Morph-o-Tool is the omni-wrench for big modpacks. It adds a single item, the Morphing Tool, and that tool can mimic any wrench, screwdriver, hammer or wand-made-of-twigs-and-petals you attach to it. This pack includes version 1.8-39.[1][2]
The mod pairs with Akashic Tome, and it is the only thing it adds, so there is nothing else to learn.[1]
How it works
- To attach a wrench-like item, craft the Morphing Tool together with that item.[1]
- When you look at a block from the same mod as an attached item, the tool turns into that item. You get the actual item from the mod, not an emulated one, so it works the way that item normally does.[1]
- Morphing only happens in your main hand by default. Hold the tool in your off hand if you don't want it to morph back. The config can swap the hands.[1]
- While it isn't morphed into anything, the tool rotates blocks using the Forge rotation system. It should handle all vanilla blocks and most modded ones.[1]
- To morph by hand, hold shift and use the scroll wheel while holding the tool.[1]
- To remove an attached item, morph the tool into that item, then sneak and press your drop key.[1]
Configuration
The mod's config lets you allow every item to be attached, which is off by default. You can also blacklist mods, whitelist item names such as wrench, screwdriver or hammer, and whitelist specific items that don't match those names. An alias list redirects one mod to another, for example so that looking at a block from a related mod still picks the wrench of the mod you aliased it to.[1]
How do you get started with Morph-o-Tool?
3 parts
Good news: Morph-o-Tool is simple to start with. The only item it adds is the Morphing Tool, and it works as an "omni-wrench" that can copy any wrench, screwdriver, hammer or similar tool from other mods. That means one item in your hotbar instead of a pile of wrenches.[1]
Craft the Morphing Tool
This is the first and only thing you need to make. Here is the exact recipe used in this pack:[3]

| Empty slot | any iron ingot | any red dye |

Attach your wrench-like items
Once you have a wrench-like item from another mod, craft the Morphing Tool together with it to attach it. You can repeat this for as many tools as you like.[1]
- Craft the Morphing Tool with the wrench, screwdriver, hammer or wand you want to attach.[1]
- Hold the tool and look at a block from the same mod as the attached item. The tool turns into that real item, not an imitation, so it keeps that item's full functionality.[1]
- Look away and it changes back. Some NBT data is stored on the item so the game knows how to revert it.[1]
Handy tricks
- If you don't want the tool to morph back, hold it in your off hand. By default it only morphs in the main hand, and the config has an option to swap this so it morphs in the off hand instead.[1][4]
- While it isn't morphed into anything, you can use the tool to rotate blocks. It should handle all vanilla blocks and most modded ones.[1]
- To morph manually, hold shift and use the scroll wheel while the tool is held.[1]
- To remove an attached item, morph the tool into the item you want to remove, then sneak and press your drop key.[1]
How does Morph-o-Tool work?
6 parts
Morph-o-Tool adds just one item, the Morphing Tool, so there are no machines or multiblocks to build here. Everything on this page is about how that one tool behaves and how the pack configures it.[1]

How morphing works
The Morphing Tool can mimic wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers and similar tools, which makes it an omni-wrench for a big pack. To add a tool to it, craft the Morphing Tool together with that item.[1]
- When you look at a block from the same mod as an attached item, the Morphing Tool turns into that item.[1]
- You get the real item from the mod, not an emulation or a container, so it keeps its normal functionality.[1]
- The item gets some NBT data attached so the game knows how to change it back when you look away.[1]
- While it is not morphed into anything, you can use it to rotate blocks. The project page says this uses the Forge rotation system and should handle all vanilla blocks and most modded ones.[1]
Controls
- To morph manually, hold Shift and use the scroll wheel while holding the tool.[1]
- To remove an attached item, transform the tool into that item, then sneak and press your drop key.[1]
Which hand morphs
In this pack offhand_morph is set to false, so the tool morphs in your main hand. Holding it in your off hand stops it from morphing, which is handy if you don't want it to change back. If the option is switched to true, the roles swap and it morphs in the off hand instead.[1][4][5]
What can be attached in this pack
allow_all_items is false here, so you can't attach just any item. An item has to pass the filters below.[1][5]
- Name whitelist: whitelist_names lets in items whose names contain wrench, screwdriver, hammer, rotator, configurator or crowbar.[1][5]
- Item whitelist: whitelist_items lists specific items that don't match those names. In the pack these are botania:twig_wand, appliedenergistics2:network_tool, immersiveengineering:tool, buildersguides:mallet, environmentaltech:tool_multiblock_assembler, bloodmagic:ritual_reader, draconicevolution:crystal_binder and crossroads:omnimeter.[1][5]
- Mod blacklist: blacklist_mods stops items from tconstruct, intangible and immersiveengineering from being attached.[1][5]
Mod aliases
mod_aliasses redirects one mod to another. The project page's example is that RFTools adds the Smart Wrench and the alias rftoolsdim=rftools exists. So when you look at an RFTools Dimensions block with a Smart Wrench attached, the tool grabs that wrench.[1][5]
The pack's list includes entries such as mekanismgenerators=mekanism, mekanismtools=mekanism, cabletiers=refinedstorage, extrastorage=refinedstorage, xnet=rftools and integrateddynamics=integratedtunnels.[5]
How do you progress through Morph-o-Tool?
There isn't much of a progression ladder here, and that's worth knowing up front. The recipe dump for this pack lists only one recipe that makes a Morph-o-Tool item: the Morphing Tool. The sources show no separate tool tiers or upgrade recipes, just a single crafted item.[3]
The Morphing Tool is made in a shaped crafting grid. Its ingredients are tag-based (any item in the matching dye and ingot tags works), and the block below shows the exact in-pack recipe.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | any green dye | any blue dye |
| Empty slot | any iron ingot | any red dye |
| any iron ingot | Empty slot | Empty slot |

Which Morph-o-Tool config options matter?
3 parts
Morph-o-Tool has a single config file in this pack, config/morphtool-common.toml. Here is what each option is set to, and what that means when you want your Morphing Tool to copy a wrench.[5]
Which items can be attached
- allow_all_items is false in this pack. The mod's project page says this option, which lets every single item be attached, is disabled by default, so the pack matches the default here. Only items that pass the whitelist rules below can be attached.[1][5]
- whitelist_names is set to wrench, screwdriver, hammer, rotator, configurator and crowbar. These are the name keywords the pack uses for wrench-like tools.[5]
- whitelist_items names specific tools from other mods that the pack allows. One you can use in this pack is the Crystal Binder.[5]
Blacklisted mods and aliases
blacklist_mods contains tconstruct, intangible and immersiveengineering in this pack, so items from those mods are on the blacklist.[5]
mod_aliasses pairs one mod name with another. For example, xnet and rftoolspower are paired with rftools, mekanismtools with mekanism, and extrastorage with refinedstorage. The list also has entries for Thermal, BuildCraft, Applied Energistics and Blood Magic names.[5]
Off-hand behavior
offhand_morph is false in this pack. The project page explains that the tool morphs in the main hand, so holding it in your off hand stops it from morphing back, and that you can swap these in the config.[1][5]
