What is Jumbo Furnace?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.12.0 guide

Jumbo Furnace is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 5.0.0.8, built for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1]

The mod has been in the pack for a long time. It was already included in version 1.0.1 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Jumbo Furnace does, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. I also couldn't confirm any quests that involve it, or a place for it on the ATM Star path. Treat all of that as unverified until it can be checked in game.

How do you get started with Jumbo Furnace?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

The Jumbo Furnace is a big multiblock that smelts several recipes at once. Your first goal is simple: build one, then upgrade it. Here's the order to go in.[2][3]

Step 1: Build the Jumbo Furnace

Place 27 furnaces in a 3x3x3 cube and they become a Jumbo Furnace. The pack's quest book has this as the quest a quest in "?" in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter, which sits in the "Forgotten Knowledge" group (chapter 18 of 22).[2][3]

  • 27× any furnace player workstations

Recipe id: jumbofurnace:jumbo_furnace

This is the in-pack recipe for the Jumbo Furnace item. It is a Jumbo Smelting recipe that takes 27 furnaces.

The mod's own advancement text says you can also get the item by smelting 27 furnaces in a Jumbo Furnace you already have.[3]

Step 2: Upgrade it

A basic Jumbo Furnace already processes multiple recipes at the same time. To push that further, put more Jumbo Furnace items in the bottom-right slot, up to 64. Each one adds to the number of items it can smelt at once.[2][3]

  • The mod has an advancement for upgrading a Jumbo Furnace with another Jumbo Furnace.[3]
  • Another advancement is for fully upgrading one with a full stack of 64 Jumbo Furnaces.[3]

Step 3: Dismantling it

In this pack the [[config:config/jumbofurnace-server.toml#Construction Settings.shearable]] option is set to true. That means you can cleanly dismantle a Jumbo Furnace with shears.[5]

How does Jumbo Furnace work?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

The Jumbo Furnace is a multiblock smelter. You build it from regular furnaces instead of crafting one block. Here is everything the sources confirm about how it works in this pack.[6]

Building it

Place 27 furnaces in a 3x3x3 cube and they assemble into a Jumbo Furnace. The mod has an advancement for exactly this, so you'll know when it worked.[6]

You can also get the Jumbo Furnace as an item. The mod's advancement text says you can do this by smelting 27 furnaces in a Jumbo Furnace. The pack's recipe uses the mod's own jumbo smelting recipe type, and it accepts any block from the furnace workstation tag as the input.[6][7]

Upgrading

A Jumbo Furnace has an upgrade slot. Put Jumbo Furnace items in it and the furnace can smelt more recipes per cooking cycle. The mod's tooltip describes the upgrade this way.[6]

The advancements show how far the upgrades go. A single Jumbo Furnace item is enough to upgrade your furnace. A full upgrade takes a full stack of 64 Jumbo Furnaces.[6]

Taking it apart

In this pack, [[config:config/jumbofurnace-server.toml#Construction Settings.shearable]] is set to true. That means you can dismantle a Jumbo Furnace cleanly with shears.[8]

Tip: Bring shears when you want to move or rebuild your Jumbo Furnace. The pack's config allows clean dismantling with them.[8]

Unverified The sources don't cover fuel use, smelting speed, automation with hoppers or pipes, or what the upgrade slot accepts beyond Jumbo Furnace items. Check these in-game before you build an automated setup around the furnace.

How do you progress through Jumbo Furnace?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

The Jumbo Furnace is a short progression in this pack: you build it once, then upgrade it. The pack's quest book covers it in a single quest, a quest in "?".[2]

Where the quest book puts it

The quest is called Bigger & Better. It sits in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter, which is chapter 18 of 22 in the book, in the "Forgotten Knowledge" group. That chapter holds 24 quests. This quest is completed by an advancement rather than by handing in an item.[2]

Step 1: build the Jumbo Furnace

The quest tells you to build a 3x3x3 of Furnaces to create the Jumbo Furnace. Once you have it, it can process multiple recipes at the same time.[2]

Jumbo FurnaceMod recipe

  • 27× any furnace player workstations

Recipe id: jumbofurnace:jumbo_furnace

The in-pack recipe. The recipe dump lists it as a mod recipe, so it is not marked as changed by the pack.

Step 2: upgrade it

You upgrade the Jumbo Furnace by putting more Jumbo Furnaces in its bottom-right slot, up to 64. Each one you add represents the number of items it can smelt at once.[2]

Tip: The upgrade items are more Jumbo Furnaces, so the recipe above is also how you get your upgrades, up to the 64 the quest mentions.[2][4]

Which Jumbo Furnace config options matter?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.12.0 guide

The only Jumbo Furnace option this pack's files confirm is in the server config, and it's a handy one. [[config:config/jumbofurnace-server.toml#Construction Settings.shearable]] is set to true, so you can cleanly dismantle a jumbo furnace with shears.[9]

Tip: Because shearing is enabled in this pack, you can take a jumbo furnace apart with shears instead of breaking it block by block.[9]

Unverified I couldn't confirm whether this value differs from the mod's own default, so don't assume the pack changed it. No other Jumbo Furnace config values were available to check.
