What is Idle Cinematics?

Idle Cinematics is one of the mods bundled in this pack. The pack ships version 1.4.2, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[1]

The mod has been in the pack since this version or earlier, so if you're updating from an older install, the mod's presence isn't new.[1]

Unverified What Idle Cinematics does in play, who it is best suited to, and where it fits in the pack's progression could not be confirmed from the available pack data. This guide makes no claims about its features, recipes, configs or quests.

How does Idle Cinematics work?

6 parts

The sources for Idle Cinematics only cover its client config, which controls an automatic cinematic camera. This section walks through how that system behaves in the pack, based on those settings.[2]

Activation

Automatic activation is switched on in the pack through enabled. The camera takes over after you give no input for afkTimeoutSeconds seconds. The pack sets this to 25, which is also the mod default, and the allowed range is 5 to 3600.[2]

Before the cinematic starts there is a countdown. countdownEnabled is on and countdownSeconds is 3 (range 0 to 10). showAfkTimer is on, and showTimerTitle is off. warningSoundEnabled is on, with warningVolume at 0.65, the mod default.[2]

The shot director

A shot director chooses what the camera shows. shotMode decides how it picks compositions, and the pack uses DYNAMIC. The other allowed values are PLAYER_FOCUSED, ENVIRONMENT_FOCUSED and CLASSIC. shotDurationSeconds is how long the director waits before choosing a new shot. It is 9 seconds here, the mod default, and the range is 5 to 30.[2]

Camera movement

Performance and focus

analysisQuality sets a bounded budget for scene analysis. The options are PERFORMANCE, BALANCED and QUALITY, and the pack uses BALANCED. The file notes that safety checks stay enabled in every mode.[2]

Several optional limits are present but switched off in the pack. fpsCapEnabled is off, with fpsCap set to 30. renderDistanceProfileEnabled is off, with cinematicRenderDistance set to 8. maintainCinematicRendering is off, so cinematic frames aren't kept rendering while Minecraft is inactive or unfocused. exitOnFocusRegain is also off.[2]

HUD and audio

hideHud is on in the pack. hudAnchor is set to TOP_LEFT and hudScale is set to 1. cinematicMasterVolume is 0.35, the mod default. audioProfileEnabled is off.[2]

Emotecraft integration

With emotecraftAutomation on, selected Emotecraft emotes play during cinematic shots of the local player. emotecraftChancePercent is 60 (range 0 to 100). The emotes come from emotecraftEmotePool, a comma-separated list of emote UUIDs, and the file notes that unavailable IDs are preserved.[2]

Tip: Every setting above is in the client config, so you can tune it yourself. If the camera kicks in too soon, raise the AFK timeout. If shots feel rushed, raise the shot duration.[2]

Which Idle Cinematics config options matter?

5 parts

Idle Cinematics keeps all its settings in one client-side file, config/idlecinematics-client.toml. Here are the options you're most likely to touch and how this pack sets them. Every option where the file lists a mod default (the numeric ones) is left at that default, so the pack changes none of those values.[2]

When the cinematic starts

How the shots are chosen

Camera feel

cameraDistance (range 0.6 to 1.6), panSpeed (range 0.1 to 4.0) and transitionIntensity (range 0.0 to 2.0) are all 1, which is the mod default for each. Transition intensity only scales transition duration, not shot speed. cinematicFovEnabled is false, so the custom cinematicFov of 55 (the mod default) isn't applied.[2]

Performance and focus

HUD, audio and emotes

Tip: Want the cinematic to start sooner or later? Change afkTimeoutSeconds, the seconds without input before activation.[2]

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as idlecinematics, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
