What is FerriteCore?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

FerriteCore is a memory optimization mod. It cuts Minecraft's RAM usage in a few different ways, and it doesn't add any blocks, items or gameplay. You install it and let it work in the background.[1]

This pack ships FerriteCore 7.0.3, the NeoForge build. It was already in the pack by version 2.25 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for a long time.[2]

Who it's for

Everyone. If you're running a big pack on limited RAM, or hosting a server for friends, this mod helps you. You don't need to configure anything to benefit from it.[1]

How much does it save?

It depends on the pack. The mod's author measured a different pack, All Of Fabric 3 version 2.5.9, and heap usage dropped from 1,792 MB to 984 MB with FerriteCore. The same setup with Hydrogen instead used 1,335 MB. Those numbers came from generating a world with a fixed seed and waiting for two minutes. They show the kind of saving you can get, but they are not a measurement of this pack.[1]

Client or server?

Some of the optimizations only affect the client. Others have a high impact on the server too, so the mod's author recommends installing it on both sides.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

Unverified The sources I have don't show any quests for FerriteCore, an in-jar guidebook, or a place on the ATM Star path. Treat it as a background performance mod with no progression role.

How do you get started with FerriteCore?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Good news: there's nothing to craft, no quest to chase and no item to hunt down. FerriteCore is a memory optimization mod. It reduces the memory Minecraft uses in a few different ways, and it does that on its own once it's loaded.[1]

What you actually need to do

  1. Make sure FerriteCore is installed on both sides if you're running a server. Some of its optimizations are client-side only, but some high-impact ones matter on the server too.[1]
  2. Don't add Hydrogen next to it. Hydrogen only works with recent FerriteCore versions on Minecraft versions where Hydrogen was officially released, and 1.18+ builds aren't compatible with it because Hydrogen has been archived.[1]
  3. Load into your world and play. Nothing else is needed to turn it on.[1]

How much memory will it save?

It depends on the pack. As an example from a different pack, All Of Fabric 3 version 2.5.9, FerriteCore cut heap usage from 1,792 MB to 984 MB. The same setup with Hydrogen instead used 1,335 MB. Those numbers were measured after generating a world with a fixed seed and waiting two minutes. They are not measurements from this pack, so your results will differ.[1]

Tip: Since FerriteCore saves RAM without any setup, it's a good reason to check your memory allocation if you're tuning performance. Just keep in mind that the savings depend on the pack.[1]

Unverified This pack has no quests involving FerriteCore and no recipes that produce its items. The sources don't list any pack-specific config options for it, so we can't confirm any values to tweak.

How does FerriteCore work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

FerriteCore works differently from most mods in this guide. It has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for you to build. It's a memory optimization mod, and its job is to reduce how much RAM Minecraft uses in a few different ways.[1]

What it does for you

The mod works in the background, so there's nothing to craft or set up. How much memory it saves depends on the pack you're running.[1]

The mod's authors give one example from a different pack, version 2.5.9 of All Of Fabric 3. There, FerriteCore reduced heap usage from 1,792 MB to 984 MB. The same setup with Hydrogen instead of FerriteCore used 1,335 MB. They measured these after generating a world with a fixed seed and waiting for two minutes. Treat the numbers as an illustration only, because they don't tell you what to expect in this pack.[1]

Client and server

Some of the optimizations only affect the client. Others have a high impact on the server too, so the mod's authors recommend installing it on both sides.[1]

Compatibility

FerriteCore is most likely compatible with other mods. The one exception the authors name is Hydrogen. It works with all recent FerriteCore versions only on Minecraft versions where Hydrogen is officially released. Hydrogen has been archived, so 1.18+ builds of FerriteCore are not compatible with it.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe any in-game machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling, automation behavior, config options or recipes for this mod, and I couldn't confirm any in this pack. The authors also publish a high-level technical summary of the specific memory changes, but its contents weren't available to me, so I haven't described them.

What changed in FerriteCore between versions?

2 parts

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships with FerriteCore 7.0.3, using the NeoForge build of the jar. The mod has been in the pack since FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier.[3]

FerriteCore 7.0.3

  • Reduces memory usage of data component patches.[4]
  • Fixes a loading slowdown that happened with ModernFix dynamic resources.[4]

FerriteCore 7.0.2

This release lets other mods disable FerriteCore features. The changelog says this should only be used in rare cases where something is intrinsically incompatible, and asks mod authors who plan to use it to get in touch first, in case a different solution exists.[5]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for FerriteCore were available, so which pack release moved it to each version is unconfirmed.

"From pack files" means the list came from the pack's own files; "from the published release" means ForgeBase read the jars of the release itself.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as ferritecore, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
