If you've chosen to go down the Mekanism route to make Steel, you can click this quest's checkmark to allow you to proceed with the MI questline from here on out.
- The Start of Modern Industrialization
Now that you can make iron ingots, you can craft a Forge Hammer! This will allow you to smash all varieties of ore and even process the ingots into plates, rings, rods, and other materials. While it is easier to do, this method of making materials is considered very inefficient, due to the cost of remaking the hammers. You should progress onto machine processing with a Steam Macerator as soon as you're able. Note: You can also pulverize logs into sawdust for early cardboard boxes. These can be handy for lots of things!
Asks for:Forge Hammer
- Forge Ahead
After you've crafted a Forge Hammer, you'll want to make some Iron Plates as well as some Copper Components which will be used in a multitude of crafting recipes. You can also use these to make one of the best mining tools in the early game!
Needs: The Start of Modern IndustrializationAsks for:Copper Plate,
Copper Rod,
Iron Plate,
Copper Bolt,
Copper Curved Plate
- Powering Up
There are many ways to power Modern Industrialization machines (MI for short)! It's important to know that in FTB Skies 2: Aero, the power systems are unified to allow you to use and produce FE or MI energy. For example, you can power MI machines with Mekanism generators and vice versa. This gives you the freedom to progress however you'd, like while still enjoying the best parts of MI!
Needs: Forge Ahead - A Superior Tool
Silk Touch is important for maximizing your ore outputs. By processing them in block form, you will receive more products and byproducts than via standard mining. Luckily, MI provides a solution to this! The miraculous Steam Mining Drill can mine a 3x3 area AND has a Silk Touch mode. For the recipe, try mixing together some invar in a foundry... To use it, you'll need to provide it Water by just having a bucket in your inventory or by right-clicking a water source block. To power the drill, open your inventory and drag a fuel source like coal over top of the Steam Mining Drill and then Right-click it to deposit the fuel. You can change the Drill mode by Sneak + Right-clicking it. Yes, it does work with Ultimine!
Needs: Forge AheadAsks for:Steam Mining Drill
- Bronze Ingot
Your first alloy you'll want to make is Bronze. There are several ways to do this, including just mixing dusts in a Tempered Jar. It's a very important alloy for progression, and will open your path to MI's Bronze Age!
Needs: Forge AheadAsks for:Bronze Ingot
- Bronze Boiler
Before we can use machines that need power, we'll need to power them using Steam. Steam produced via Mekanism should work as well, but you will need to make sure that it is LIQUID steam. If you plan on generating Steam using MI, the Bronze Boiler will be the first method of producing enough Steam to power your bronze age tech. For it to work, you'll need to first provide it Water, either manually via buckets, or via a Water Pump. It also needs burnable Fuel like coal, which can be hoppered or piped in. Once you have both Water and Fuel pumping into the Bronze Boiler, you can pump out Steam from the output face with the square on it (which can also be changed with a Wrench).
Needs: Bronze IngotAsks for:Bronze Boiler
- Coke Oven
MI's Steam Coke Oven needs to be powered with Steam to operate. This is another multiblock, just like the regular Coke Oven, except this one needs Item Hatches and Fluid Hatches to function properly. The Coke Oven is a 3x3x3 multiblock made mostly out of Bricks. While it may seem like a hassle, these are definitely worth making! The Coke Oven will need one input for Steam and one for coal. This will produce Creosote Oil and Coal Coke.
Needs: Bronze BoilerAsks for:Bricks,
Bronze Item Input Hatch,
Bronze Item Output Hatch,
Coke Oven
- MI Pipes
Now that you have bronze, you'll be able to make MI Pipes. These are highly versatile and absolutely worth using. You can stack up to three Pipes in the same block space. They can also be died so they won't connect to each other, and their connection states can be configured with the MI Wrench You can go even further by creating a Facade out of any block to blend pipes seamlessly into your builds. To do this, Sneak + Right-click on the block you want the Pipes to display as, then right-click any Pipe in the world to apply the Facade. While this does consume blocks from your inventory, it can easily be popped back off by Sneak + Right-clicking with the Facade with the MI Wrench. To make copying settings of pipes easier, you have been given a Pipe Config Card. With this tool, you can copy settings of a Pipe onto the card, then place it in your offhand. Any Pipe you place like this will automatically copy the settings on the card.
Needs: Bronze Ingot - Bronze Mixer
Mixers are used to combine multiple components and sometimes liquids into new ingredients. Make sure to pay attention to the tier of mixer required for recipes! 2 eu/t is a Steam Mixer. 4 eu/t is a Steel Mixer. Any higher than that will require an Electric Mixer or better.
