What is What The Bucket?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

What The Bucket is a tiny bug-fix mod. It fixes an old Minecraft bug where some bucket items get completely destroyed when you use them as a crafting ingredient, instead of leaving an empty bucket behind. A bucket of water already turns into an empty bucket in a recipe, but newer buckets like the powder snow bucket were completely consumed. With this mod installed, all the affected vanilla buckets give you an empty bucket back as expected.[1]

The pack includes What The Bucket 21.1.1, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]

Which buckets are fixed

  • Bucket of Pufferfish[1]
  • Bucket of Salmon[1]
  • Bucket of Cod[1]
  • Bucket of Tropical Fish[1]
  • Bucket of Axolotl[1]
  • Powder Snow Bucket[1]
  • Bucket of Tadpole[1]

Who it is for

Honestly, everybody who crafts with buckets. With the mod installed, the buckets above give you an empty bucket back when a recipe uses them as an ingredient.[1]

Watch out: The fix only covers vanilla buckets. If a bucket added by another mod still gets eaten by a recipe, that is down to the other mod's code, not this one.[1]

Servers

If the mod is installed on a server, the fix applies to every connecting player, even those without the mod. If it is only on the client, it only works in single-player worlds. The author recommends installing it on both client and server for consistency.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

I found no quests in this pack that involve this mod, and it is not on the ATM Star path.[2]

Unverified No in-jar guidebook was found for this mod, and the sources do not say which specific pack recipes use the affected buckets as ingredients.

How do you get started with What The Bucket?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: there's nothing to craft and nothing to set up for What The Bucket. It doesn't add items of its own. It fixes an old Minecraft bug (MC-151457) where certain buckets are destroyed when you use them as a crafting ingredient.[1]

What it does for you

Normally, a bucket of water turns into an empty bucket when it's used as a crafting ingredient. Newer buckets, like the powder snow bucket, get completely consumed instead. With this mod installed, all the affected vanilla buckets give you an empty bucket back, as you'd expect.[1]

These are the vanilla buckets the mod fixes:[1]

  • Bucket of Pufferfish[1]
  • Bucket of Salmon[1]
  • Bucket of Cod[1]
  • Bucket of Tropical Fish[1]
  • Bucket of Axolotl[1]
  • Powder Snow Bucket[1]
  • Bucket of Tadpole[1]

Things to know

Watch out: The fix only covers vanilla buckets. If a bucket added by another mod still gets eaten in a recipe, that's down to the other mod's author to fix, not this one.[1]
Tip: On a server, the fix applies to everyone who connects, even players without the mod installed. If it's only on your client, it works in single-player worlds only. The mod's author recommends installing it on both client and server for consistency.[1]

Unverified This pack has no quests, in-pack recipes or config options for this mod that we could confirm, so there is no first-steps crafting order to follow. Just keep playing and your buckets will behave.

How does What The Bucket work?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

What The Bucket doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation. It's a small bug-fix mod, so there are no systems to learn. It changes how certain vanilla buckets behave when you use them as crafting ingredients.[1]

What the mod fixes

Vanilla Minecraft has an old bug where some bucket items are destroyed when used as a recipe ingredient. A water bucket normally turns into an empty bucket in that situation. Newer buckets, like the powder snow bucket, get used up completely. With the mod installed, every affected vanilla bucket leaves an empty bucket behind, as you'd expect.[1]

Affected buckets

  • Bucket of Pufferfish[1]
  • Bucket of Salmon[1]
  • Bucket of Cod[1]
  • Bucket of Tropical Fish[1]
  • Bucket of Axolotl[1]
  • Powder Snow Bucket[1]
  • Bucket of Tadpole[1]

Servers and multiplayer

If the mod is installed on a server, the fix applies to every player who connects, even those without the mod. If it's only on the client, the fix only works in single-player worlds. The mod's author recommends installing it on both the client and the server so behavior stays consistent.[1]

What it doesn't cover

Watch out: The fix only applies to vanilla buckets. If a bucket added by another mod gets destroyed when used as an ingredient, What The Bucket won't help. According to the mod's author, that is the other mod's responsibility to fix.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't show any config options, recipes or quests for this mod in the pack. Nothing beyond the bucket fix described above is confirmed.

What changed in What The Bucket between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships What The Bucket 21.1.1, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the modpack.[3]

What The Bucket 21.1.1

  • The mod's changelog for 21.1.1 lists one change: a port to Minecraft 1.21.1. That is the version of the mod you're running in this pack.[3][4]

I couldn't find any other notable changes for this mod in the sources, so there's nothing more to report for now.[4]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as whatthebucket, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
