What is Structure Expansion?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Structure Expansion is a small mod that raises the size limit of the vanilla structure block. If you like saving big builds and pasting them back somewhere else, this is the mod that lets you go bigger.[1]

This pack includes Structure Expansion 88.0.1, the NeoForge build.[2]

What it does

  • The project page says it increases the structure block size limit from the vanilla 48x48x48 to 256x256x256, for its versions 1.16.5-1.0.6 and above.[1]
  • It adds the command /structure clean <name>, which removes air blocks from a structure file. If you saved the structure as 123, the name is 123. If you saved it as sunekaer:123, the name is written as "sunekaer:123".[1]
  • The project page also says it expands the limit of the fill command, starting with its version 1801.1.1.[1]
Tip: After saving a big structure, try /structure clean on it. The project page says the command removes air blocks from the structure file.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

Unverified The sources here show no place for this mod in the pack's quest book: no chapter or group, and no quest that involves it. They also do not show it on the ATM Star quest path. Any quest detail would live in the pack's quest chapters, and no in-jar guidebook was found for the mod.

How do you get started with Structure Expansion?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: Structure Expansion is a small mod, and there is nothing to craft to get started. It doesn't add its own gear. It raises the size limits of things you already know from vanilla, so you use the vanilla structure block as normal.[1]

What it changes

  • Structure blocks: the size limit goes up from 48x48x48. In versions 1.16.5-1.0.6 and above, the new limit is 256x256x256. Older versions (1.16.5-1.0.5 and below) only went up to 127x127x127.[1]
  • Fill command: from version 1801.1.1 on, the mod also expands the limit of the fill command.[1]

Your first step: save a big structure

Use a structure block the way you normally would, but select a larger area than vanilla allows. This is handy for saving big builds, such as a base or a skyblock island layout, in a single structure file.[1]

Cleaning out air blocks

Versions 1.16.5-1.0.6 and above add the command /structure clean <name>, which removes air blocks from a structure file. If you saved the structure as 123, the name is 123. If you saved it as sunekaer:123, the name is "sunekaer:123" in quotes.[1]

Tip: Save your structure first, then run the clean command with the exact name you used in the structure block.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't confirm which exact version of the mod ships in this pack, so check in-game which of the limits above apply. They also show no recipes or quests for this mod, so I can't point you to any crafting steps.

How does Structure Expansion work?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Structure Expansion doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling. It's a small mod that raises limits on vanilla tools, so there's no automation to set up. That also means this section is short.[1]

Bigger structure blocks

The mod increases the size limit of the vanilla structure block. Vanilla caps it at 48x48x48. In recent versions of the mod (1.16.5-1.0.6 and above) the cap becomes 256x256x256, so you can save and load much larger builds in one go.[1]

Older releases (1.16.5-1.0.5 and below) only went up to 127x127x127. If you read an older write-up that mentions that number, it describes those older versions.[1]

Higher fill command limit

As of mod version 1801.1.1, the mod also expands the limit of the vanilla fill command. That lets you cover larger areas with a single command.[1]

Unverified The source doesn't say what the new fill limit is. It also doesn't say which exact version of the mod this pack ships, so check in game before relying on a specific size.

Cleaning air out of structure files

Versions 1.16.5-1.0.6 and above add a command that removes air blocks from saved structure files:[1]

  • Command format: /structure clean <name>[1]
  • If you saved the structure as 123, the name is 123.[1]
  • If you saved it as sunekaer:123, the name is "sunekaer:123", in quotes.[1]

What the sources don't cover

The mod has no config files in this pack, so there are no settings to tweak. No recipes in the pack produce items from this mod either. Because nothing here is tuned by the pack, the behavior above is how the mod itself works.[1]

What changed in Structure Expansion between versions?

Structure Expansion is on version 88.0.1 in FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 (the file is structure-expansion-neoforge-88.0.1.jar). It was first included in Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack from very early on.[3]

The only mod changelog entry I have is for 88.0.1, and it's a short one: the update to 1.21.[4]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Structure Expansion were available, so any changes to the mod between pack releases are unconfirmed.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as structureexpansion, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
