What is Soulbound Enchantment?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Soulbound Enchantment adds a single enchantment, and that's all it does. It has no extra features, just a few configuration options. Anything carrying the soulbound enchantment is kept automatically when you die, so you don't have to run back to your death spot to recover your best gear.[1]

It's a good fit if you hate losing your key tools and armor to a bad fall, a mob swarm or a dangerous dimension. Soulbound items stay with you instead of dropping.[1]

The durability cost

Keeping an item isn't always free. When you die, a soulbound item has its durability randomly reduced, and how much depends on the configuration. If that setting is 0, durability isn't reduced at all. Durability is also not reduced in Creative Mode or when Keep Inventory is on.[1]

In this pack

The pack includes Soulbound Enchantment 1.0.1, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It was first included in this pack version or an earlier one.[2]

Tip: The mod can be configured through Cloth Config API or by editing its config file by hand, so you can tune how much durability a death costs.[1]

Unverified The sources don't show how you obtain the soulbound enchantment in this pack, which config values the pack sets, or where the mod fits in the pack's progression. The pack has no quests for this mod, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. Check the in-game config before relying on any specific durability value.

How do you get started with Soulbound Enchantment?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Soulbound is a single enchantment with no extra items or machines to set up, so there is no long build order here. Its job is to stop you losing gear when you die.[1]

What it does for you

An item with Soulbound is automatically kept when you die, so it doesn't drop. It is also randomly damaged when that happens.[1][3]

How much durability you lose depends on the mod's configuration. If that setting is 0, durability isn't reduced at all. You also lose no durability in Creative Mode or when Keep Inventory is on.[1]

Where to start

  1. Pick the gear you can't afford to lose, such as the tools and armor you rely on most. Soulbound is the enchantment that protects them from dropping on death.[1]
  2. Check the mod's configuration before you rely on it. The mod's own docs say the durability loss on death is configurable, and that setting decides how much damage your kept items take.[1]
  3. Config files: the mod's page names /config/soulbound.json, which you can edit by hand or through Cloth Config API. It also says Forge supports only file edits, using soulbound-common.toml.[1]
Tip: Soulbound items are still randomly damaged on death unless the durability setting is 0, so keep an eye on the condition of your gear after a rough fight.[1][3]

Unverified This pack has no quests for the mod and no recipes that produce its items, so there is nothing confirmed here about how to obtain the enchantment (for example, which book source or table to use). The same goes for the pack's own default durability-loss value. Check the config file in your own instance.

How does Soulbound Enchantment work?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

This mod is small. It adds a single enchantment and nothing else, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to set up. The sources describe only what the enchantment does on death and how the config tunes it.[1]

What the enchantment does

An item with Soulbound is automatically kept when you die, so it doesn't drop. It is also randomly damaged when that happens. You get your gear back, but not always at full durability.[1][3]

Tip: The durability loss doesn't apply in Creative Mode, or when Keep Inventory is on.[1]

How this pack configures it

The settings are in config/soulbound-common.toml. Durability loss is controlled by maxDamagePercent. The mod default is 20, but this pack lowers it to 10, so Soulbound gear takes less damage here than the mod would normally deal. The allowed range is 0 to 100.[4]

If you set that value to 0, durability is not reduced at all.[1]

The pack also sets allowBreakItem to false.[4]

Unverified The sources don't explain exactly how maxDamagePercent is applied (for example, what the percentage is measured against). They also don't say what allowBreakItem changes. Check the config in game before relying on either.

Which Soulbound Enchantment config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Soulbound only has one enchantment, so the config is short. Forge packs like this one use the file config/soulbound-common.toml. Two options are set here, and one of them is changed from the mod's default.[1][4]

Durability loss on death

maxDamagePercent controls how much durability your soulbound items lose when you die and keep them. The pack sets it to 10, while the mod default is 20, so this pack is gentler on your gear than a default install. The allowed range is 0 to 100.[1][4]

The mod reduces durability randomly, depending on this setting. If you set it to 0, durability is not reduced at all.[1]

Tip: Durability is not reduced if you die in Creative Mode or with Keep Inventory on. The durability setting only matters in normal survival deaths.[1]

Breaking items

allowBreakItem is set to false in this pack.[4]

Unverified The sources don't explain exactly what allowBreakItem does or whether false differs from the mod default, so check the in-game behavior or the mod's own documentation before relying on it.

What changed in Soulbound Enchantment between versions?

1 part

There isn't much history to cover here. FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 includes Soulbound Enchantment 1.0.1, and the mod has been in the pack since Aero 1.0.3 or earlier.[5]

Soulbound Enchantment 1.0.1

  • Fixed the issue where the enchantment would not appear in the Librarian's trading list.[6]

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as soulbound, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
