What is Smithing Template Viewer?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Smithing Template Viewer is a small quality-of-life mod that shows you what an armor trim would look like before you commit to it. You open it from JEI or EMI, so you can preview a trim without spending any materials.[1]

In the viewer you can switch which armor piece the trim is shown on, and you can change the color of the trim. That makes it handy if you care about how your armor looks and want to compare a few combinations first.[1]

In this pack

The pack includes version 1.0.4 of the mod. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 of the original pack or earlier. The mod is released under the MIT License.[1][2]

It is a viewer only. It adds a preview tool inside your recipe viewer, not new progression content, so you don't need to unlock or craft anything to use it.[1]

Unverified The sources don't show this mod on the ATM Star path, and they don't show any quest that involves it. Don't plan your progression around it.

How do you get started with Smithing Template Viewer?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Good news: there's nothing to craft to get started with this one. Smithing Template Viewer is a viewing tool. It lets you see what a trim would look like on armor, right from JEI or EMI, before you commit any materials to it.[1]

What it does for you

  • Shows a preview of a smithing trim on armor, opened from the JEI/EMI recipe viewer.[1]
  • Lets you change which armor piece the trim is previewed on.[1]
  • Lets you change the color of the trim in the preview.[1]

In practice, that means you can try different looks and pick the one you like before you spend anything on it.[1]

Unverified The sources don't say how to open the preview in this pack, such as which JEI or EMI screen it appears on. They also don't cover any in-pack recipes, quests or config options for this mod, so none are listed here. Check the trim entries in your recipe viewer to find the preview. This site does hold FTB Skies 2: Aero's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Smithing Template Viewer work?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

This mod is a small client-side helper, not a tech mod. It has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation to set up. The only thing the sources describe is a preview feature, so this section is short.[1]

What it does

The mod lets you see what a smithing trim would look like on armor, right from the recipe viewer. It works from JEI or EMI, so you can check a trim before you spend materials on it.[1]

What you can change in the preview

  • The armor piece the trim is shown on.[1]
  • The color of the trim.[1]

Unverified The sources don't explain where in JEI or EMI the preview appears, how the controls work, or whether the pack has any settings for it. I've left those details out rather than guess. This site does hold FTB Skies 2: Aero's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Which Smithing Template Viewer config options matter?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Smithing Template Viewer is a small mod, and the pack's config file only has one option: display_materials. The file is config/smithingtemplateviewer-common.toml.[3]

  • display_materials is set to true in this pack. It controls whether trim materials get registered into EMI/JEI, so with it on, they show up in your recipe viewer.[3]

The mod is there so you can preview how a smithing trim would look on armor from JEI or EMI. You can change the armor piece and the trim color in that preview.[1]

Unverified The mod's default for this option isn't confirmed in the available sources, so I can't say whether the pack changed it. Treat true as simply the value this pack uses.

What changed in Smithing Template Viewer between versions?

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Smithing Template Viewer 1.0.4, using the file smithingtemplateviewer-1.0.4.jar. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[4]

None of the pack's changelogs have entries for this mod, so there are no pack-level changes to report for it.[4]

Unverified The mod's own changelog for 1.0.4 is not detailed in the sources I have, so I can't say what specific changes it brought or how 1.0.4 differs from earlier versions.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as smithingtemplateviewer, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
