What is Create Aeronautics: Portable Engine Liquid Fuel?

1 part

This add-on gives the Portable Engine from Create: Aeronautics (Simulated) liquid fuel support. Without it, the engine relies on solid fuels. With it, the engine can burn fluids such as lava, which you pipe in.[1]

The pack ships version 2.0.0 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier, so it is part of the pack's setup and not a recent addition.[2]

Adding your own fuels

The fuels are driven by datapack data maps, so you can add fluids yourself. There are two files, both under the mod's data namespace. One is for normal fuel and one is for superheated fuel.[1]

  • Normal fuel: data/portable_engine_liquid_fuel/data_maps/fluid/engine_fuel.json[1]
  • Superheated fuel: data/portable_engine_liquid_fuel/data_maps/fluid/super_engine_fuel.json[1]

Inside a file, you list entries under "values". Each entry is a fluid id, or a fluid tag with a # in front, and gives a burn_time. The mod's own example uses 5000 for a single fluid and 12000 for a tag. Those are illustration values from the mod page, not the pack's fuel values.[1]

Tip: If you make a datapack, set "replace": false so you don't overwrite existing entries. To load entries only when another mod is present, add a neoforge:mod_loaded condition. You can use both together.[1]

How do you get started with Create Aeronautics: Portable Engine Liquid Fuel?

2 parts

This mod is a small add-on, so there is no long crafting chain to follow. It adds liquid fuel support to the Portable Engine from Create: Aeronautics (Simulated). Instead of relying only on solid fuels, the engine can consume fluids like lava through pipe systems.[1]

What to do first

  1. Get a Portable Engine from Create: Aeronautics (Simulated). This add-on works on that engine, so you need it before anything else.[1]
  2. Pick a fluid to burn. Lava is the example the mod gives.[1]
  3. Pipe that fluid into the engine, so it can run on liquid fuel instead of only solid fuel.[1]

Adding your own fuels

If you want other fluids to count as fuel, the mod reads them from datapacks. Normal fuels go in a data map file named engine_fuel.json, and superheated fuels go in one named super_engine_fuel.json. Both live in a data_maps/fluid folder under the portable_engine_liquid_fuel namespace.[1]

Each entry is a fluid id, or a fluid tag starting with #, with a burn_time value. The mod's own example uses 5,000 for one fluid and 12,000 for a tag.[1]

Tip: When you write a fuel datapack, set replace to false so you don't overwrite existing entries. To load an entry only when another mod is installed, add a neoforge:mod_loaded condition. You can use both together.[1]

How does Create Aeronautics: Portable Engine Liquid Fuel work?

3 parts

This mod adds liquid fuel support to the Portable Engine from Create: Aeronautics (Simulated). Normally the engine relies on solid fuels, but with this mod it can also consume fluids like lava, fed to it through pipe systems.[1]

How fuel is defined

Which fluids count as fuel is controlled by data maps, not by a config file. Separate files cover normal fuel and superheated fuel. Each is a JSON file inside a datapack, under the portable_engine_liquid_fuel namespace.[1]

  • Normal fuel: data/portable_engine_liquid_fuel/data_maps/fluid/engine_fuel.json[1]
  • Superheated fuel: data/portable_engine_liquid_fuel/data_maps/fluid/super_engine_fuel.json[1]

Inside either file you write a values object. Each entry is keyed by a fluid id (modid:fluid_name) or by a fluid tag with a # in front, and each entry gets a burn_time. That lets you cover a whole tag of fluids at once.[1]

Adding your own fuels with a datapack

If you want to add fluids from another mod, create a datapack with one of the files above. The mod's own example uses a plain fluid entry and a tag entry side by side, each with its own burn_time.[1]

  • To make entries load only when a specific mod is present, add a neoforge:conditions list with a neoforge:mod_loaded condition and the modid you need.[1]
  • To avoid overwriting entries that already exist, set replace to false in the file.[1]
  • You can use neoforge:conditions and replace together, they are not incompatible.[1]
Tip: The burn_time numbers in the mod's example are just illustrations of the file format. They are not this pack's values, so do not treat them as what lava or any other fluid gives you here.[1]

What is not confirmed for this pack

Unverified Which fluids are set as normal or superheated fuel in this pack, their actual burn times, and how the superheated category behaves differently from normal fuel are not shown by the sources here. The pack has no config files for this mod, and the data map contents for it are not among the sources. Lava is the only fluid the project page names as usable fuel.

What changed in Create Aeronautics: Portable Engine Liquid Fuel between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Portable Engine Liquid Fuel 2.0.0. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier, so the version you have now is the one described here.[2]

2.0.0

The mod's own changelog for 2.0.0 lists these changes:[3]

  • Lava is now matched through the #minecraft:lava tag instead of the direct lava fluid.[3]
  • Superheated Engine support was added.[3]
  • Compatibility with the Create: QoL "Superheated Lava" was added.[3]
  • Datapack support was added.[3]

I don't have any pack changelog entries that mention this mod, so there's nothing pack-specific to add here.[2]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as portable_engine_liquid_fuel, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
