Occultism

Occultism is a magic mod focused around summoning Spirits and using their powers and skills to your advantage. To get started, you'll need to find Demon's Dream Seeds or more likely buy them from a Market. While the Dictionary of Spirits is normally the ultimate guidebook for Occultism, Skies 2 has had several changes to many of its recipes, so some information may not be accurate. The Dictionary of Spirits is, however, needed for certain recipes, and can be used to create holograms to help you build out Rituals!

Asks for: Demon's Dream Seeds

In some quests, you'll notice tasks that have optional attached to them. Most of the time, this is done so you can click them to see the recipe for certain rituals! Keep an eye out for what is required as lots of quests have optional tasks to complete.

Once you've planted a few Demon's Dream Seeds, you can harvest them to acquire Demon's Dream Fruit. Consuming Demon's Dream Fruit gives you the effect of the Third Eye, allowing you to interact with The Otherworld and granting you knowledge of things not known to mere mortals. For now, you can only obtain this effect by eating a Demon's Dream Fruit, but this will change as you deepen your knowledge of the occult.

You'll need items from the Otherworld to progress further, and Spirit Fire does just that. Throwing a Demon's Dream Fruit on the ground and setting it on fire will produce Spirit Fire, which never burns out and does not harm entities. Throwing items into the Spirit Fire will convert them into their Otherworld equivalent.

Spirit Attuned Gems can be used in a variety of crafting recipes and Rituals, but is most commonly used to make the Divination Rod and Spirit Attuned Crystals. To acquire a Spirit Attuned Gems, simply toss a diamond into Spirit Fire. Note: Spirit Attuned Crystals are great to use in your Enchanting setups!

Throwing a regular oak sapling into Spirit Fire will convert it into an Oak Sapling from the Otherworld. When planted and grown, this tree will look like a regular sapling. Those under the effects of the Third Eye can see what it really is! Chopping this tree down while under the effects of the Third Eye should drop you Otherworld Logs, which can be used in crafting recipes or rituals. Throwing the logs into Spirit Fire will give you Otherworld Ashes - a key component used to craft White Chalk.

Otherstone can be acquired by tossing andesite into Spirit Fire. Smelting Otherstone will give you Burnt Otherstone - a key component used to craft the White Chalk.

Book of Bindings are used to summon different Spirit tiers, and can be acquired by tossing a book and quill into Spirit Fire. To identify a Spirit to summon, its name must be written in a Book of Binding and then combined with a Dictionary of Spirits, resulting in a Bound Book of Binding. Spirit names are only used as flair and do not impact the recipe. As long as you have the right Spirit Tier, your Bound Book can be used. There are 4 different tiers of Spirits: - Foliot: Tier 1 - Djinni: Tier 2 - Afrit: Tier 3 - Marid: Tier 4 The Bound Book that is required to complete a Ritual will be based on the tier of the Spirit you are trying to summon, and the Pentacle tier you use.

If we want to play with Demons, we'll need a way to summon them with rituals. To do this, we need Chalk. Chalk is used to draw glyphs for your Rituals. You will come across many different colored Chalks as you progress through Occultism. By combining Otherworld Ashes and Burnt Otherstone, you can craft an Impure White Chalk, which can be thrown into Spirit Fire to purify it into White Chalk. Chalk is pretty hard to scrub off of the ground. You can use a Chalk Brush to get rid of any misplaced glyphs.

Rituals will require more than just some symbols drawn on the ground! Each ritual will need several Sacrificial Bowls, which are used to place items that will be sacrificed to perform the ritual. For the first ritual, you will only need four of these. The Golden Sacrificial Bowl is the centerpiece of the ritual Pentacle. This bowl will hold the key item used in the ritual, which is usually a Bound Book. For the regular Sacrificial Bowls, the exact placement does not matter as long as they are within 8 blocks of the Golden Sacrificial Bowl. What type of ritual is it if it doesn't require some Candles! Any vanilla candle will do. If you want to get special with it, you can also make Large Candles using Tallow. To get Tallow, you will need to kill large animals with a Butcher's Knife. Large animals include: - Cows - Horses - Llamas - Pigs - Sheep

For our first Ritual, we're going to summon a Foliot Crusher using the Aviar's Circle Pentacle. The easiest way to do this is to navigate to the Pentacles tab in your guidebook, then find Aviar's Circle. On the right side, you should see a render of it with an eye icon in the bottom right. Clicking this will allow you to place a hologram to help you create the pentacle! Once you've drawn and completed the layout of the Pentacle, you can place down 4 Sacrificial Bowls anywhere within 8 blocks of the Golden Sacrificial Bowl. You might notice that most Pentacles have the perfect spot for these! Next, you'll place down the items needed in the Sacrificial Bowls, then place in the Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound) into the center Golden Sacrificial Bowl. Once all items are in place, you can right-click the Golden Sacrificial Bowl and start the ritual! The items inside the bowls will be consumed until there are none left, at which point the Foliot Crusher will appear next to the Golden Sacrificial Bowl. Like all other Crushers, the Foliot Crusher will grind down items into dust, providing 2x the output. The Crusher is also needed to create the next color of Chalk we'll need!

Our new friend should make it easy for us to make Crushed End Stone, but before we continue, it's important to understand more about Rituals and Pentacles! In short, a Pentacle is a formation of glyphs, bowls, and stabilizers placed around the Golden Sacrificial Bowl. A Ritual is the act of offering items to summon a Spirit from The Otherworld. There are 4 different types of Pentacles, and each can be upgraded as you progress. This means that you only need four 19x19 areas to set up all 4 types of Pentacles! Rituals are mainly split into four categories: Binding, Possession, Familiar, and Summoning. Your Aviar's Circle Pentacle is considered a Summoning Pentacle. The next upgrade for it is Ophyx's Calling, which allows you to summon Djinni. When completing a Ritual, a purple particle effect will show that the Ritual is successful and in progress. If a Ritual shows gray particles above the Golden Sacrificial Bowl, then additional requirements need to be fulfilled, such as item use or a living sacrifice.

Crushing end stone allows you to craft Purple Chalk, which is the next tier of Chalk we'll need to perform better Rituals.

Possession Rituals bind Spirits into living beings, giving the summoner a degree of control over the possessed being. As such, these Rituals are used to obtain rare items without having to venture into dangerous places.

Occultism's upgradeable storage system allows you to store your items in a separate dimension of The Otherworld. Don't worry about them floating away in the void though, we have insurance for that.

To summon higher tier Spirits, we're going to need better chalk. This requires a new type of Pentacle called Eziveus' Spectral Compulsion. Make sure to use the guidebook to help you create it! This is the basic starting point for Binding Rituals. It binds a Foliot to your items, enhancing their functionality. Some Binding Rituals are optional, but you will need most of them if you want to reach Occultism's end-game.

The Storage Actuator Base is the first of two parts needed to access your storage dimension. This block functions very much like a big shulker box. This means that when breaking the Dimensional Storage Actuator, your items will stay safe inside the block.

Items with unique properties (NBT Data), such as damaged or enchanted equipment will take up one item type for each variation. For example, two wooden swords with two different damage values will take up two item types. Other mods can access the storage controller just like a shulker box, but some mods may struggle to read stack sizes. Logistics: When inserting items, the Storage Actuator will maximize performance automatically, minimizing impact on game performance. When extracting items, however, it is recommended to use a Foliot Transporter, even if it only places the items inside a chest next to the Storage Actuator. This is because, when extracting a specific item from the Storage Actuator, most pipes will cycle through every single stored item one by one, massively impacting game performance, especially on servers.

The Stable Wormhole allows access to a Dimensional Storage from a remote destination. Shift-click the Dimensional Storage Actuator to link it, then place the Stable Wormhole in the world to use as a remote access point.

Some Rituals require the Sacrifice of a living being to provide the necessary energy to summon the Spirit. To perform a Sacrifice, kill an animal within 8 blocks of the Golden Sacrificial Bowl. Only kills by players count as Sacrifice.

Binding Rituals channel Spirits into items, imbuing them with powers dedicated to a single purpose. The starting Pentacle for this Ritual type is Eziveus' Spectral Compulsion. These items can serve as simple enhancements or perform complex functions to assist the player.

Binding a Foliot to the satchel significantly increases its storage capacity, making it a great travel companion.

The Otherworld Goggles give the wearer permanent Third Eye effect, granting vision of Otherworld blocks.

Summoning Rituals force Spirits to enter this world in a chosen shape, setting them to a specific task. You've already made the first tier of Summoning Pentacle: Aviar's Circle. These tasks can range from item manipulation and trading, to slave-like helpers for manual labor.

The Foliot Transporter can take from and deposit to any inventory, including machines and Spirit. To set the blocks the Foliot Transporter can interact with, simply sneak + right-click with the Transporter Book of Calling on the inventory you want to deposit to or extract from. By default the Foliot Transporter is in whitelist mode and will not move anything. Shift + right-click it to open the config UI where you can then add items to the filter list to make it move only those items, or set it to blacklist to move everything except the filtered items. You can also enter a tag in the text field below to filter by tag.

All tiers of Smelter Spirits are summoned to do furnace, blast furnace, smoker, and campfire processes without using fuel. They will pick up the appropriate items, smelt them, and then drop them back into the world. A fire particle effect and a flame sound indicate the Smelter is at work. To automate this, summon a Foliot Transporter to place items from chests in the Smelter's inventory, and a Foliot Janitor to collect the processed items.

Trader, time, and weather Spirits experience Essence Decay while outside The Otherworld. Stronger Spirits can resist this decay, but only the strongest can fully overcome its effect. Once fully decayed, a Spirit will disappear and return to The Otherworld. One can slow or even stop this decay by binding the Spirit to an object or living being. Additionally, the Pentacle used can influence the effects of Essence Decay to some extent.

The Otherstone Trader allows you to get more Otherstone than using Spirit Fire. It is especially efficient if you want to use Otherstone as a building material.

The Foliot Janitor will pick up dropped items and deposit them into a target inventory. To bind the Foliot Janitor to an inventory simply sneak + right-click with the Janitor Book of Calling on that inventory. You can also have the Foliot Janitor wander around a select area by pulling up that interface. Sneak + right-click the Foliot Janitor to configure an allow/block list to specify which items to pick up or ignore. This is set to allow mode by default, so it will only pick up items you specify in the list. You can use tags to handle whole groups of items.

White Chalk is considered a Foundation Chalk. Foundation Chalks are tiered chalks that can be used interchangeably with other colorless chalks, as long as they can summon the appropriate tier. They come in four different colors: - White: Tier 1 - Light Gray: Tier 2 - Gray: Tier 3 - Black: Tier 4 More advanced Rituals will require a better Foundation Chalk. As an example, you can use Black Chalk in place of White, Light Gray, or Gray glyphs for any Pentacle. However, White cannot be used in place of Light Gray, Gray, or Black Chalk glyphs.

Familiar Rituals summon Spirits to inhabit an animal's body, allowing them to resist decay and provide buffs to the summoner. Some of these buffs can be acquired by binding the Familiar to a Familiar Ring and equipping it. Most Familiars will behave like tamed animals, following the player unless instructed not to.

Using Yellow Chalk, you can attract a Foliot to possess a nearby creature. Most Possession and Familiar Rituals are optional, but you will still need to complete their Pentacles to reach the end-game. Simply click on the checkmark to progress the questline.

Using Hedyrin's Lure you can summon Familiars that can perform tasks or provide buffs to the player. Beaver: Chops down nearby small trees, and increases wood break speed - Upgraded: Gives free snacks when right-clicked with an empty hand Deer: Step Assist, Increased Speed, and Jump Boost - Upgraded: Extra Step Assist and attacks nearby enemies with a hammer. Greedy: Picks up nearby items and increases pickup range - Upgraded: Looks for items for its master. Parrot: Provides company to its caring owner. - Has no upgradeable Effect, as such, it cannot be upgraded.

Using Hedyrin's Lure you can summon Possessed Animals that can be tamed or killed for loot. Parrot: Summons a tameable Parrot Random Common Animal: One of - Chicken, Cow, Pig, Sheep, Squid, or Wolf Random Small Animal: One of - Allay, Bat, Bee, Parrot, Cat, Ocelot, Fox, or Rabbit Random Water Animal: One of - Axolotl, Frog, Dolphin, Cod, Salmon, Tropical Fish, Pufferfish, Squid, Glow Squid, Tadpole, Turtle, or Snow Golem

Susje's Simple Circle is basic Pentacle with two purposes: - Convert vexes to allays - Resurrect dead Familiars. These Rituals are optional. To proceed with the questline, click the checkmark.

Storage Stabilizers increase the storage space in the Storage Actuator. Higher tier Storage Stabilizers provide a bigger storage increase for both items and item types. Storage Stabilizers can be placed up to five blocks away, facing the Dimensional Matrix texture. Check the Dictionary of Spirits for the exact layout. Each Tier 1 Dimensional Storage Stabilizer adds 512000 items, and 64 item types, up to four Stabilizers.

Using Hedyrin's Lure you can summon the powerful Blacksmith Familiar. The Blacksmith upgrades other Familiars and also has a chance to repair player equipment whenever the player picks up stone. To upgrade other Familiars, the Blacksmith must be given iron ingots or blocks via right-clicking.

A Ritual Satchel can hold items needed to create Pentacles used in Rituals, and can automatically place the right item directly onto the ground. You must have selected a Pentacle layout from the Dictionary of Spirits in order for the satchel to know what to select.

For the next tier of Chalks to upgrade your existing Pentacles, you'll need Lime Chalk, Light Gray Chalk, and some skeleton skulls.

Using Lime and Light Gray chalks, you can now attract a Djinni, allowing possession and summoning of stronger creatures. Most Possession and Familiar Rituals are optional, but you will still need to complete their Pentacles to reach the end-game. Simply click on the checkmark to progress the questline.

The next color of Chalk requires you to get some Cursed Honey. To get this material, we'll need to use Ihagan's Enthrallment to summon a possessed bee. This will require a tier 2 Possession Pentacle.

Demonic Partners are a nice way to get rid of that feeling of loneliness. They will keep you company, cook for you, and extend your potion effects.

Using Ihagan's Enthrallment you can summon Possessed Animals that can be tamed or killed for loot. Drikwing: Summons a Drikwing Villager: Summons a Villager Random Rideable Animal: One of - Camel, Donkey, Horse, Llama, Pig, Skeleton Horse, Trader Llama, or Zombie Horse Random Special Animal: One of - Armadillo, Goat, Iron Golem, Mooshroom, Panda, Polar Bear, or Sniffer

You can now upgrade your existing Pentacles with Orange and Gray chalks, and Spirit Attuned Crystals.

Combine the Storage Actuator Base with a Dimensional Crystal Matrix to make a Dimensional Storage Actuator, and place it down to begin storing your items. Without Stabilizers, the Dimensional Storage Actuator can hold 256000 items with 128 item types.

Shift + right-click a Dimensional Storage Actuator with a Storage Accessor to link them, allowing you to access your items from anywhere in the world, even across dimensions.

Soul Gems are used to capture a single entity. Bosses cannot be captured. Using a Soul Gem that has a captured spirit, you can create a Familiar Ring. The Familiar Ring provides a buff depending on the Familiar captured within.

Otherworld ores usually can only be mined with Otherworld metal tools. The Infused Pickaxe is a makeshift solution to this problem. Brittle Spirit Attuned Gems house a Djinni that allows harvesting the ores, but the durability is extremely low.

Iesnium is a rare metal found on some floating islands. The Apothecarist has some ore on their island as a former denizen of the nether, but a bounty is rumored to lay deep in the Nether Castle. It can only be mined with the Infused Pickaxe, or the Iesnium Pickaxe while wearing Otherworld Goggles. Another method could be offering a large amount of silver to...that well... Iesnium ore can be processed like most other ores. You can also place it down, which enables it to be mined with any other pickaxe, dropping Raw Iesnium. Iesnium Ingots can be used to craft the Iesnium Pickaxe, Spirit Lamps, or other powerful items. Don't forget that you can use a Divination Rod to highlight nearby ore blocks!

The Dimensional Mineshaft is used to harvest resources from an uninhabited mining dimension. The Dimensional Mineshaft will discard any items it cannot store, so it is important to regularly empty the mineshaft. Spirits in lamps can be inserted from the top, and items can be extracted from all other sides. The Dimensional Mineshaft has two interactions with redstone: 1) The Spirit will stop working when receiving a redstone signal. 2) A comparator can be used to get a redstone signal based on occupied slots and lamp durability.

This simple Ritual allows you to repair any chalk to full durability again.

Using Gray and Orange chalks, and Spirit Attune Crystals, you can now control an Afrit to possess a zombie piglin, dropping Demonic Meat upon its death.

With Lime and Light Gray chalks, you can now upgrade your Aviar's Circle to Ophyx' Calling to clear the weather, skip the night, or summon a variety of Djinnis. Most Rituals using this Pentacle are optional.

With Gray and Orange chalks, you can now upgrade your Ophyx' Calling to Kandar's Opened Conjure. This Ritual is only used to summon an Unbound Afrit. Killing it will grant you its essence, allowing you to make Red Chalk.

The Djinni Smelter functions like all other Smelters, but processes things 50% faster than normal.

The Djinni Sunshine Spirit can be used to clear the weather. Weather Spirits will modify the weather once before vanishing.

With Afrit Essence, you can create the next tier of Chalk: Red Chalk.

Upgrading Strigeor's Higher Binding with Orange and Gray chalks, and Spirit Attuned Crystals allows you to permanently bind the powerful Afrit to an item. Some Binding Rituals are optional, but you will need most of them if you want to reach Occultism end-game. Click on the checkmark to progress the questline.

Using Sevira's Permanent Confinement, you can craft Black Chalk. This can be used to upgrade your existing Pentacles, as well as being the highest tier Foundation Chalk.

The Machine Operator transfers items specified in the Dimensional Storage Actuator's interface to its managed machine and brings back the crafting results. It can also be used to automatically empty a chest into the Storage Actuator. To use the Machine Operator use its Book of Calling to link a Storage Actuator, the machine, and optionally a separate extract location. For the machine you can additionally set a custom name and the insert/extract sides. Please note that setting a new machine will reset the extraction settings

The Iesnium Sacrificial Bowl is an upgrade to the standard Golden Sacrificial Bowl. Significantly increases Ritual speed.

The next tier of Summoning Pentacle is Tibira's Attraction. This Ritual is only used to summon an Unbound Marid. Killing it will grant you its essence, allowing you to make Blue Chalk.

With Marid Essence, you can now craft Blue Chalk. This is used to upgrade your existing Pentacles to the next tier.

With the power of Blue Chalk, you are capable of drawing Fatma's Incentivized Attraction to summon and bind Marids to your will.

Djinnis can be used to fast-forward time to Dawn or Dusk, depending on your needs. Time Spirits will modify time once before vanishing.

Uphyxes Inverted Tower combines the powers of Blue Chalk and Wither Skeleton Skulls, allowing you to summon and bind Marids into extremely powerful items. Some Binding Rituals are optional, but you will need most of them if you want to reach Occultism end-game.

The Iesnium Anvil is a Marid infusion improving regular anvil functions - It is Unbreakable. - It can exceed the maximum level of enchantments by 1. - Marid will pay half of the shown level cost. - The cost increase of working with the same item is reduced. - The maximum cost limit is increased.

I'm starting to think the Eldritch Gods might have had a hand in creating everything. To create Magenta Chalk, you will need Dragonyst Dust. This can only be acquired by using the Uphyxes Inverted Tower Pentacle.

To get Cyan Chalk, you'll need a Marid Crusher to crush up Echo Shards for you. Eldritch Gods need very specific chalk to commune with them. They might be colorblind. Just like Alfred!

Stabilizing Abra's Commanding Conjure with Red Chalk allows you to command an Afrit Spirit to possess and summon powerful creatures. Most Possession and Familiar Rituals are optional, but you will still need to complete their Pentacles to reach the end-game. Simply click on the checkmark to progress the questline.

With the power of Blue Chalk and Wither Skeleton Skulls you are able to summon and bind Marids into powerful beings. Most Possession and Familiar Rituals are optional, but you will still need to complete their Pentacles to reach the end-game.

If we want to commune with the Eldritch Gods, we need the right colors of Chalk. Using Xeovrenth Adjure, Cruelty Essence can be used to craft Brown Chalk.

Using Abras' Commanding Conjure you can summon Possessed Mobs that drop loot when killed. Elder Guardian: Nautilus Shells (2-4), Heart of the Sea (40%) Hoglin: Netherite Scrap, Music Discs/Fragments, Smithing Templates Shulker: Shulker Shell (1-2) Warden: Echo Shard (6+), with a chance for Music Discs/Fragments, and Smithing Templates

Ronaza's Contact is the most complex and advanced Pentacle, combining all human knowledge of The Otherworld to allow communication with the Eldritch Gods. Using this Pentacle, you can craft the strongest items in Occultism.

The Trinity Gem is an upgraded version of the Soul Gem and is able to capture almost any mob.

The Rainbow Chalk can replace any non-foundation chalk (white, gray, light gray, black). It also comes with extra features: - Using a Spirit Attuned Gem in the off-hand toggles the random color changes, or use any dye to set the glyph color. - Using this chalk on a glyph while crouching will erase the glyph, acting as a Chalk Brush. The Rainbow Chalk can also be used to make Void Chalk. Void Chalk is an upgraded version of the Rainbow Chalk that can replace any chalk including foundation chalk.

The Iesnium Golem is an upgraded iron golem, dealing a lot more damage, and being completely invulnerable to damage. You can recall the Iesnium Golem by hitting them while crouched.

The Chalice is an upgraded version of the Iesnium Sacrificial Bowl, which will instantly perform any ritual. It's also really cool looking.

The Chimera behaves a little differently to most other Familiars. It can grow when fed meat, increasing its damage and speed. Once fully grown, feeding it a Golden Apple will detach the Goat to become its own rideable mount. When upgraded, it will get a warning bell that attracts nearby enemies in a large radius when hit. The Goat can also be used to summon a Shub Niggurath Familiar. To summon Shub Niggurath, take the Goat to a forest biome and feed it any black dye, flint, and an eye of ender. The Shub Niggurath spawns small versions of itself to fight for you, and will have the same bell as the Goat when upgraded.

It is safe to destroy a Storage Stabilizer to upgrade it. The items in the Storage Actuator won't be lost or dropped, but you won't be able to add new items until it has free slots again. Each Tier 2 Dimensional Storage Stabilizer adds 1024000 items, and 128 item types, up to four Stabilizers.

The Iesnium Pickaxe can be used to mine Otherworld Materials like Iesnium Ore. It is faster and more durable than the Infused Pickaxe.

The Foliot Miner harvests random blocks, returning anything it finds. It is quite slow and inefficient, degrading its lamp much faster than other miners.

The Ore Miner Djinni only harvests ores. It is able to mine faster and more efficiently than the Foliot. Because of its speed, however, it damages its lamp faster.

The Deep Ore Afrit Miner harvests ores like the Djinni, and additionally mines deepslate ores. It is faster and more efficient, damaging its lamp even more slowly.

The Master Marid Miner is the most powerful miner Spirit. It has the fastest mining speed and best lamp preservation. Unlike other miners, they can also mine rare ores like Ancient Debris and Iesnium Ore.

The Eldritch Ancient Miner harvests entire blocks of raw ore at once. Compressing the Master Marid Miner has given you an extremely powerful and efficient miner.

Miner Spirits decay over time, but with simple materials, an Afrit can repair a Miner Spirit.

The Guardian Familiar can prevent its master's death by sacrificing one of its limbs. A Guardian spawns with a random amount of limbs, but upgrading it with the Blacksmith Familiar will regenerate one limb once.

The Artisanal Ritual Satchel functions similarly to the Apprentice Ritual Satchel. However, it can not only instantly complete the entire Pentacle at once (if provided all materials), but it can also pick up all blocks used in the Pentacle by right-clicking the Golden Sacrificial Bowl.

Some Rituals require the use of certain items to be performed. Use the item within 16 blocks of the Golden Sacrificial Bowl to proceed the Ritual. Important: Before using the item, start the ritual. Gray particles indicate that the ritual is ready for the item use.

Otherworld Trees grown from natural Otherworld Saplings can only be harvested when under the effect of Third Eye. To make life easier, the Otherworld Sapling Trader will exchange such natural saplings for a stable variant that can be harvested by anyone, and will drop the same stable saplings when harvested.

The Foliot Lumberjack will harvest trees within its working area, collect and deposit dropped items into the specified chest, and re-plant saplings. Use the Lumberjack Book of Calling to set the work area and deposit location of the Foliot Lumberjack. Summoning the Foliot Lumberjack requires a Stable Otherworld Sapling, which you can get as a trade from the Otherworld Sapling Trader summon. Note: The Foliot may pause for a while after clearing his work area even if trees have regrown since. This is a performance-saving measure and not a bug. He will continue on his own, but you can set the work area again to make him continue work immediately.
