What is Jumbo Furnace?

Jumbo Furnace is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 5.0.0.8, built for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1]

The mod has been in the pack for a long time. It was already included in version 1.0.1 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Jumbo Furnace does, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. I also couldn't confirm any quests that involve it, or a place for it on the ATM Star path. Treat all of that as unverified until it can be checked in game.

How do you get started with Jumbo Furnace?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Getting started with the Jumbo Furnace is simple, because there is only one thing to build first. It is a multiblock, so you make it out of regular furnaces.[2]

Step by step

  1. Collect 27 furnaces. The Jumbo Furnace is built from a 3x3x3 cube of them, so that is your whole shopping list for the first build.[2]
  2. Place the 27 furnaces in a 3x3x3 cube. Once the cube is complete, you have assembled the Jumbo Furnace.[2]
  3. If you want the Jumbo Furnace as an item, use the recipe below. In this pack it is a jumbo smelting recipe from the mod, and the mod's own advancement text says you can create the item by smelting 27 furnaces in a Jumbo Furnace.[2][3]

This is the in-pack recipe for the Jumbo Furnace item, and it uses the mod's jumbo smelting recipe type.

Why make more of them?

Extra Jumbo Furnace items are not just spares. You can put them in the upgrade slot of a Jumbo Furnace to increase the number of recipes it can smelt per cooking cycle.[2]

The mod also tracks upgrading with advancements. One of them asks you to fully upgrade a Jumbo Furnace with a full stack of 64 Jumbo Furnaces.[2]

Tip: Get the single 3x3x3 build working first before you chase upgrades. A full upgrade needs a stack of 64 Jumbo Furnaces, so treat it as a later goal.[2]

How does Jumbo Furnace work?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

The Jumbo Furnace is a multiblock smelter. You build it from regular furnaces instead of crafting one block. Here is everything the sources confirm about how it works in this pack.[2]

Building it

Place 27 furnaces in a 3x3x3 cube and they assemble into a Jumbo Furnace. The mod has an advancement for exactly this, so you'll know when it worked.[2]

You can also get the Jumbo Furnace as an item. The mod's advancement text says you can do this by smelting 27 furnaces in a Jumbo Furnace. The pack's recipe uses the mod's own jumbo smelting recipe type, and it accepts any block from the furnace workstation tag as the input.[2][3]

Upgrading

A Jumbo Furnace has an upgrade slot. Put Jumbo Furnace items in it and the furnace can smelt more recipes per cooking cycle. The mod's tooltip describes the upgrade this way.[2]

The advancements show how far the upgrades go. A single Jumbo Furnace item is enough to upgrade your furnace. A full upgrade takes a full stack of 64 Jumbo Furnaces.[2]

Taking it apart

In this pack, [[config:config/jumbofurnace-server.toml#Construction Settings.shearable]] is set to true. That means you can dismantle a Jumbo Furnace cleanly with shears.[4]

Tip: Bring shears when you want to move or rebuild your Jumbo Furnace. The pack's config allows clean dismantling with them.[4]

Unverified The sources don't cover fuel use, smelting speed, automation with hoppers or pipes, or what the upgrade slot accepts beyond Jumbo Furnace items. Check these in-game before you build an automated setup around the furnace.

How do you progress through Jumbo Furnace?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

The only progression detail the pack data confirms for the Jumbo Furnace is how you get it. There is a single recipe for it, and the pack data labels it as the mod's own recipe, so nothing here shows the pack changing it.[3]

Jumbo FurnaceMod recipe

Jumbo Smelting (jumbofurnace)

  • 27× any furnace player workstations

Recipe id: jumbofurnace:jumbo_furnace

This is the only in-pack recipe that makes the Jumbo Furnace, and the pack data lists it as a mod recipe.

The pack data shows no other recipes that produce Jumbo Furnace items, so there is no tier ladder to climb for this mod. You craft the one item and that is the whole path.[3]

Unverified The sources here show no quests involving the Jumbo Furnace, and no tier breakdown or upgrade path for it. If the pack's quest book mentions it anywhere, that is not shown in the sources used for this guide.

Which Jumbo Furnace config options matter?

The only Jumbo Furnace option this pack's files confirm is in the server config, and it's a handy one. [[config:config/jumbofurnace-server.toml#Construction Settings.shearable]] is set to true, so you can cleanly dismantle a jumbo furnace with shears.[5]

Tip: Because shearing is enabled in this pack, you can take a jumbo furnace apart with shears instead of breaking it block by block.[5]

Unverified I couldn't confirm whether this value differs from the mod's own default, so don't assume the pack changed it. No other Jumbo Furnace config values were available to check.
