What is FTB Filter System?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
This pack ships FTB Filter System version 21.1.4, in the NeoForge build (ftb-filter-system-neoforge-21.1.4.jar). It has been part of the pack since an earlier release, 2.25 or older, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources I have only confirm that the mod is installed and which version it is. They don't describe what it does, who it's aimed at, or its recipes and configs, so I'm not guessing about those. Nothing I was given places it on a quest line or the ATM Star path, so I can't say where it fits in progression.
How do you get started with FTB Filter System?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
The one FTB Filter System item you can craft in this pack is the Smart Filter. You build the actual filter rules inside its configuration screen, so your first step is to make one.[2][3]
Step 1: craft a Smart Filter
The pack uses a shaped crafting recipe for the Smart Filter. Here is the exact in-pack version:[2]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: ftbfiltersystem:smart_filter
This is a shaped crafting recipe, and it is the one in-pack recipe that makes a Smart Filter.
Next: configure it and test it
- Hold the Smart Filter and right-click to open the configuration screen.[3]
- Build your filter from the available filter types (see below).[3]
- Put an item in your off hand, then sneak and right-click with the filter to test whether it matches. Do this before relying on a filter, so you catch mistakes early.[3]
Filter types to start with
These simple filter types are a good place to begin:[3]
- Item: matches one specific item. It doesn't check item component data, so use the Component filter if you need that. You can pick items from the Creative or Inventory lists and type in the text field to narrow the list by item ID.[3]
- Item tag: matches anything in a chosen item tag. The text field narrows the displayed tags.[3]
- Mod: matches everything added by one mod. Vanilla items count as the Minecraft 'mod'.[3]
- Block: matches any item that is a placeable block.[3]
There are also filters for numeric properties. Durability looks at remaining durability, and non-damageable items count as 0. Food value looks at nutritional value in half-shanks, and non-food items count as 0. Max stack size treats unstackable items as 1, and Stack size checks the current stack size.[3]
Combining filters
Compound filters let you combine the simple ones. AND needs all of its children to match. OR needs any one of them. Only one means exactly one child matches. NOT matches when its child does not, and it can hold at most one child.[3]
The Component filter supports exact matches, where all components must match, and fuzzy matches, where only the components in the filter are compared. If you have admin permissions, you can click an item in your inventory that has non-default component data to copy it into the text editor as SNBT. The Custom filter is meant for modders and modpack makers, so you can skip it for now.[3]
How does FTB Filter System work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
The sources for FTB Filter System describe one item, the Smart Filter. You configure it to decide whether a given item matches or not. This section covers the filter logic and how you use the item.[2][3]
Using the Smart Filter
- Right-click with the Smart Filter to open its configuration.[3]
- Sneak + Right-click tests the filter against the item in your off hand, so you can check a setup before relying on it.[3]

Filter types that match items
Each filter is a small rule. These are the basic ones you can build with:[3]
- Item: matches one specific item. Component data is not checked here. You can pick items from the Creative or Inventory item lists, and the text field narrows the list by item ID.[3]
- Item tag: matches any item in a chosen tag. The text field filters the displayed tags.[3]
- Mod: matches by the mod that adds the item. Vanilla items count as the Minecraft 'mod'.[3]
- Block: matches if the item is a placeable block.[3]
- Component: matches item data components. It supports exact matches (all components must match) and fuzzy matches (only the components in the filter are compared).[3]
- Durability: matches by remaining durability. Non-damageable items count as having a durability of 0.[3]
- Food value: matches by nutritional value, measured in half-shanks of food restored. Non-food items have a value of 0.[3]
- Max stack size: matches an item's maximum stack size. Unstackable items have a maximum of 1.[3]
- Stack size: matches the item's current stack size.[3]
Combining filters
Compound filters hold child filters and combine their results, so you can build more precise rules from the simple ones above.[3]
- And: matches only if all of its child filters match.[3]
- Or: matches if any of its child filters match.[3]
- Only one: matches if exactly one of its child filters matches.[3]
- Not: matches if its child filter does not match. It accepts at most one child.[3]
Expression and custom filters
The Expression filter lets you enter a literal filter expression, or load one from a Filter item in your inventory. Giving it a custom name is optional, but the tooltip recommends it for clarity.[3]
The Custom filter is an advanced option aimed at modders and modpack makers. When a match is attempted it fires a CustomFilterEvent, and the event result decides whether the match succeeds or fails. Whatever you type in its text field is passed to the event as the 'data' parameter.[3]
How do you progress through FTB Filter System?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
The sources for this pack show only one recipe that makes an FTB Filter System item: the Smart Filter. It is a single shaped crafting recipe, so there are no upgrade stages or tiers to work through for this mod.[2]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: ftbfiltersystem:smart_filter
This is the in-pack recipe for the Smart Filter, the only recipe for this mod's items in the recipe dump.
Unverified The sources here show no quests in this pack's quest book that involve FTB Filter System, so I can't tell you where it sits in the quest progression.
