What is Forgiving Void?
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.8 guide
Forgiving Void is part of this pack. The pack ships version 21.1.5, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since version 1.0 or earlier.[1]
Unverified I can't confirm from the pack files what Forgiving Void does in this pack, who it is meant for, or whether the pack changes any of its settings, so I'm not describing its behavior or config values here. I also found no quests that involve the mod, and it is not on the ATM Star quest path.
How do you get started with Forgiving Void?
2 parts
Forgiving Void has no crafting steps to follow. It works on its own from the moment you load in, so your first step is simply knowing what it does if you fall out of the world.[2][3]
What happens when you fall into the void
Once you drop 32 blocks below the minimum y level (triggerAtDistanceBelow), the mod forgives you and sends you back toward the sky. You then fall again from a height of 320 (fallingHeight).[2][3]
When you land, you take 5 damage (damageOnFall). The mode is ABSOLUTE (damageOnFallMode), which means the number is counted in half hearts.[2][3]
preventDeath is on in this pack. That limits the damage so you keep at least 0.5 hearts. A void fall should hurt, but it shouldn't kill you.[2][3]
Where it works
- The Overworld, the Nether and the End are all covered: triggerInOverworld, triggerInNether and triggerInEnd are all true in this pack.[2][3]
- Only players are covered. entityAllowList lists just the player.[3]
- The extra dimension lists, dimensionAllowList and dimensionDenyList, are both empty here.[2][3]
- Loyalty tridents are not affected, because tridentForgiveness is false.[3]
Unverified No crafting recipes or quests for Forgiving Void were found in the sources for this pack, so there is nothing to craft or complete for it.
How does Forgiving Void work?
5 parts
Forgiving Void works differently from most mods in the pack. It has no machines, multiblocks or power to manage. Everything it does is controlled by its config file, so this section walks through what happens when you fall out of the world and which options change it.[2][3]
What happens when you fall
When you drop far enough below the bottom of the world, the mod forgives you and sends you back towards the sky instead of letting the void kill you. triggerAtDistanceBelow sets how far below the minimum y level you must be for this to kick in. This pack uses 32.[2][3]
You then fall again from a set height. fallingHeight controls that starting height, and the pack sets it to 320.[2][3]
Landing damage
When you land, you take damage set by damageOnFall. The pack sets it to 5. How that number is read depends on damageOnFallMode, which has three modes.[2][3]
- ABSOLUTE: the damage is a flat amount in half hearts. This is the mode the pack uses.[3]
- RELATIVE_CURRENT: the damage is a percentage of your current health.[3]
- RELATIVE_MAX: the damage is a percentage of your max health.[3]
preventDeath is on in the pack. It limits the damage so you are always left with at least 0.5 hearts, so the landing itself can't kill you.[2][3]
The mod also has its own death message string, "fell from the top of the world", with your name in front.[2]
Where it triggers
Each vanilla dimension has its own on/off switch, and all three are set to true in the pack.[2][3]
- triggerInOverworld covers the overworld (dimension 0).[2][3]
- triggerInNether covers the nether void (dimension -1).[2][3]
- triggerInEnd covers the end void (dimension 1).[2][3]
For other dimensions there are two lists, dimensionAllowList and dimensionDenyList. The three switches above take priority over both lists. The deny list is ignored if the allow list is set. In this pack both lists are empty.[2][3]
Who and what is affected
entityAllowList decides which entities get forgiven. The pack only lists the player, and the file notes that on Forge only living entities are supported.[3]
tridentForgiveness would let tridents with loyalty be affected too. It is false in the pack, and the file says it is not supported on Forge.[3]
Rubber-banding and servers
disableVanillaAntiCheatWhileFalling is true in the pack. It exists for players who rubber-band while falling through the void. If you host a public server, the config says to leave it on only if you have proper anti-cheat installed.[2][3]
Which Forgiving Void config options matter?
3 parts
Forgiving Void keeps everything in one file, config/forgivingvoid-common.toml. Here are the options you're most likely to care about and exactly how this pack has them set.[3]
When and where the void forgives you
- triggerAtDistanceBelow is 32. It's the distance to the minimum y level at which the mod forgives you and sends you back towards the sky.[3]
- triggerInOverworld, triggerInNether and triggerInEnd are all true, so the void is forgiving in the Overworld, the Nether and the End.[3]
- dimensionAllowList and dimensionDenyList are both empty. The dimension toggles above take priority over these lists, and the deny list is ignored if the allow list is set.[3]
- entityAllowList contains only minecraft:player, so players are covered. On Forge this option only supports living entities.[3]
The fall and the landing
- fallingHeight is 320. That's the height you fall from after dropping through the void.[3]
- damageOnFall is 5, and damageOnFallMode is ABSOLUTE. In that mode the damage is a flat amount in half hearts. The other modes are RELATIVE_CURRENT (a percentage of your current health) and RELATIVE_MAX (a percentage of your max health).[3]
- preventDeath is true. The void fall can't kill you, because damage is limited so that you keep at least 0.5 hearts.[3]
Other options
- disableVanillaAntiCheatWhileFalling is true. It's meant for rubber-banding while falling through the void. If you host a public server, only keep it on if you have proper anti-cheat installed.[3]
- tridentForgiveness is false. It would let tridents with loyalty be affected by the mod, but the option is not supported on Forge.[3]
