What is FindMe?

2 parts

FindMe lets you search for an item in nearby inventories with one key press. Hover over an item, press Y (the default key), and cloud particles spawn in every inventory that holds that item. No more opening chest after chest to find where you put something.[1]

It works with JEI, so you can hover over an item in the JEI list and search for it from there.[1]

Good to know

  • The search range can be changed in the mod's config.[1]
  • The mod has to be installed on both the client and the server, so on a multiplayer world both sides need it.[1]
  • The feature is based on the search feature from Extra Utilities 2.[1]
  • The pack ships FindMe 3.3.3 for NeoForge, and it has been included since version 1.0.1 or earlier.[2]

In the quest book

The quest text I could check for the Getting Started chapter (Main Questline group, chapter 5 of 41 in the book) doesn't mention FindMe. That chapter has 64 quests, and 43 of them are not covered here, so their text is in the quest book itself.[3]

Tip: If you keep a lot of chests around, FindMe pairs well with the pack's storage setup. The quest "The Good Ol' Chest" points you to the General Storage chapter for other ways to hold your items.[3]

How do you get started with FindMe?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

FindMe is a quality-of-life mod, and the project page describes it as a keybind rather than something you build. Your first step is learning one key press, and it will save you a lot of chest-digging as your storage grows.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Open an inventory screen and hover over the item you are looking for. This works with JEI, so you can also hover over an item in the JEI list.[1]
  2. Press Y, the default key for the search.[1]
  3. Look around you. Cloud particles spawn in the nearby inventories that contain that item, so you can go straight to the right chest.[1]
Tip: The search only covers nearby inventories, and the range can be changed in the mod's config. If a chest you expect isn't lighting up, you may simply be standing too far away.[1]
Watch out: The mod needs to be installed on both the client and the server. If you play on a server, the search won't work properly unless both sides have it.[1]

What I could not confirm for this pack

Unverified The only source for this mod is its project page, which lists the default key (Y) and says the range is configurable. I could not confirm the pack's actual range value, whether the pack changed the keybind, or whether any recipes or quests involve the mod, so check your in-game controls menu for the real key.

How does FindMe work?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

FindMe doesn't add machines, multiblocks or power systems. It's a quality-of-life tool for finding things in your storage. You hover over an item, press a key, and the mod shows you which nearby inventories contain it.[1]

How searching works

  1. Hover your cursor over the item you want to find. This works with JEI, so you can hover over an item in the recipe viewer too.[1]
  2. Press Y, which is the default key.[1]
  3. Cloud particles spawn in the nearby inventories that contain that item, so you can see where it is.[1]
Tip: This is handy for big storage rooms and automation setups. Hover over what you're looking for, press the key, and follow the clouds instead of opening every chest.[1]

Range and setup

Only inventories within range are searched, and the mod's config lets you change that range. The mod has to be installed on both the client and the server.[1]

The feature is based on the search feature from Extra Utilities 2.[1]

Unverified The default range value, the exact config option name, and which inventory types are searched are not confirmed in the available sources, and neither is whether this pack changes any of them. Check the in-game controls menu if you want to see or rebind the search key.

How do you progress through FindMe?

There is no FindMe progression to follow in this pack. None of the quests in the Getting Started chapter, which is chapter 5 of 41 in the Main Questline group, name FindMe, so the quest book gives it no place on the path and no tier to unlock.[3]

If you want a quest-book route through the early game, the Getting Started chapter is the place to begin. It starts at the quest "Welcome to Minecraft" quest and moves on to "Proper Materials" quest and the quests that follow it.[3]

Unverified The sources here show no in-pack recipes for FindMe items, so no crafting steps or upgrade tiers are confirmed for this mod. If it has any, they are not described in the quest chapters or recipe files provided for this guide.

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use FindMe?

In the quest data available for this guide, FindMe doesn't show up in any quest. The only chapter covered is "Getting Started" (chapter 5 of 41 in the Main Questline group, 64 quests), and none of its tasks that name an item use a FindMe item. That chapter starts at "Welcome to Minecraft" quest and covers general early progression instead.[3]

Unverified Whether FindMe appears in any other quest chapter of the pack could not be confirmed from the quest data provided, so this guide doesn't list one.

Which FindMe config options matter?

1 part

FindMe lets you hover over an item (JEI works too), press Y by default, and cloud particles appear in nearby inventories that hold it. The mod's page says the range can be changed in the config. This pack's settings all live in COMMON.RADIUS_RANGE's file, config/findme.json, split into COMMON and CLIENT groups.[1][4]

How the pack sets things

Tip: The COMMON options affect how the search works, so they need to match on the client and the server. FindMe has to be installed on both sides, so keep that in mind if you edit the file on a server.[1][4]

Unverified The sources don't list the mod's default values, so I can't say which of these settings the pack changed. They also don't explain what the ignore-damage and container-tracking options do in detail, or what unit the track time uses. Check the mod's own config comments before changing them.

What changed in FindMe between versions?

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships FindMe 3.3.3, using the NeoForge build of the mod. FindMe has been part of the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so it's been there from the start of the pack's releases.[2]

There are no pack changelog entries for FindMe, so as far as the sources show, the pack hasn't changed anything for this mod in its releases.[2]

Unverified The details of what changed between FindMe versions could not be confirmed from the sources provided, so this guide doesn't list any version-by-version changes. Check the mod's own changelog if you want that history.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as findme, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
